So, for starters, I received the Sneak Peek of this book - not the full book:

I have to get one thing out in the open right now though – I’m conflicted on the cover. I kinda hate it, but I’m hard pressed to say why. It’s not a bad cover, it just feels…so generic. Like, I miss the covers of 80s vamp fare. Those amazing painted covers – like Paperbacks From Hell stuff.

As sneak peeks go, this one was pretty good. I don’t know that I’d buy the book on its merits, but if I found the book sitting in front of me, and I didn’t have other books to read I’d totally read it.

I think what saves it is the historical setting. 19th century teens are much less yawn-inducing than contemporary teens. The younguns these days are a fucking snooze-fest. Except the politically active and compassionate ones – they’re beautiful, fascinating humans that I am in complete awe of.

I like my vamps futuristic or old-timey. Not modern.

I also want to know what Celine’s deep, dark secret (that she has, naturally) is – what caused her to do the (possibly spoilery) thing that she did that led to her traveling to America to escape it? And how will Baddy McVampireTeeth use it against her? Will she learn to love him? I don’t want her to (when did vampires start being so fucking nice?!), but I suspect she probably will!

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of this book from #netgalley. think that this story has an interesting premise that has not been delivered on very well. I felt like the beginning dragged a little too much to keep me interested in the mystery. The author also tends to use a lot of purple prose. It seems like a lot of time was spent describing the world but the character's were less developed. I was not particularly drawn into this story and I did not care about the characters. If I had gotten the entire book I probably wouldn't have kept reading.

Thank you #netgalley and #reneeahdieh for this sneak peak.

What a beautifully written start to a wonderful sounding book. I couldn't put it down! I will be purchasing a copy of this book when it's released as I must know how it ends.

The Beautiful
by Renée Ahdieh
Its an intriguing start i had to purchase the book to see how the story goes, too intriguing to not follow through.
I like the cross between the mystical and the ordained. The women going as coffin brides to new orleans was an interesting time. How many women were transported to America for a better marriage prospect.

Ahhhhhhh this was just such a wonderful sneak peak and I just thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn’t want to put this sample down. I just fell in love with this wonderful story. I will most definitely be reading the rest of the story when it becomes available.

Although this is a preview galley, I found the beginning interesting for me to really want to read the book. Hopefully, I can get to read it soon.

Since this is only a sneak peek I can't review based on the whole book but from what I've read so far I definitely want to know more, the dark atmosphere pulls you in right away and Celine is an interesting character. Hopefully I can read the whole book here soon because now that I've started I'm curious to find out what happens now.

This is the third book I’ve read from Renée Ahdiehㅡwell, almost third since this one is only a sneak peek. But I definitely intrigued to read more after I finished reading this. I love vampire and paranormal stories (and I’m sure there are a lot of people who are addicted to such stories too), but it was so hard to find a good vampire/paranormal stories... until I found this book. Can’t wait to read the full version! 😍

It looks like The Beautiful could be an interesting book, and maybe the resurgence of vampire YA, but it's difficult to tell by reading a sneak peak.
However, if the intention of this preview was not to get an accurate star rating, but to generate hype on the reader in the hopes that they will acquire the novel by themselves, consider me hyped.

I absolutely love vampires and have always been fascinated by movies, myths and other stories of them.
This book sample was definitely not a disappointment at all, if you love vampires then I 100% recommend this book! I look forward to reading the book in its entirety!
Thank you Netgalley for the ebook sample

I had a chance to read this book in advance.

I had no idea how much I missed vampire books until today.
This book was everything I was hoping it would be. Sexy, mysterious and wicked.

I have never read a Renée Ahdieh book before but I really liked her writing, it's very fluid and at the same time lyrical (perfect for a book set in the 19th century). I loved the seductive atmosphere and the mystery was an added bonus, I always enjoy a good whodunnit.
I really appreciated Renée's decision to have some chapters from the point of view of the murder, it's interesting to read into its mind and see the motif behind the actions, plus that ending was totally unexpected!

The characters stole my heart. All of them. They are witty and funny, charismatic and so morally gray.
I even liked Celine (the main character) which is very rare for me. She doesn't let men and society define her, her actions and her future and she takes matter in her own hands.

This book captured me from its very first lines and kept me hooked for its entirety. I cannot wait to read the second one and I'll never thank Ahdieh enough for making me like a vampire book again.

Gimme the sequel now!

I was given a excerpt of this book through NetGalley and I am definitely going to be looking into getting my hands on the full book! I was definitely drawn into the story line just in the few chapters I was given. Can't wait to see what comes next!

I only got a sneak preview. But it was so, so good! It does live up to my (high) expectations and makes me want to read the whole story so bad.

While I really did not like this book, I don't blame the book itself. I have never liked vampires, especially in books, but I thought I would give this one a try seeing how much I have loved her other books. Just the overall creepy factor of people being left around the city, drained of blood, weirded me out and made it difficult to finish the book. Also, the repetitive and unnecessary amount of times Bastien was compared to the devil drove me up a wall. The characters were very well developed and I appreciated the historical fiction aspects however, and it made for a interesting story. I just don't think I fully appreciated the book as soon as I realized it was a vampire novel. Renee Ahdieh's other books were truly amazing.

I read this Sneak Peak and was so drawn into the world of New Orleans in 1872. Celine and the other girls that are living at the convent have no idea what they're in for. I love stories with supernatural elements and boy does this one. The writing is so visceral that it was easy to picture. I actually was so into the book just from the preview that I purchased a hard copy of it. I can't wait for it to get here so I can dive in!

A very enticing sneak peek into an elegantly gothic novel. The writing is sumptuous making it a joy to read that pulls you right into the splendour of 19th century New Orleans.

This book is so cool and so magical. I wish I could read the entire thing, but I guess I’ll have to pick up a copy when it becomes available. I can’t wait to read the rest of this and read The Damned when it comes out!

I only got a sneak preview and not the full book but what i read I thoroughly enjoyed. The mystery of the characters within the story was so well developed and depicted you felt part of the investigation to some extent. The story centers on Celine who is fleeing her life as a dressmaker in Paris and she is enveloped in a safe heaven in New Orleans at a covenant. Unfortunately something tragic happens to one of the other girls there and her life is turned around once again. It was a wonderful collection of interesting and equally mysterious characters and we slowly get to find out more about Celine as the story unfolds. Definitely recommended and i can't wait to read it all.

I got the Kindle edition of this book shortly after getting this sneak peak. The story so far has catched my attention. I want to know more about Celine's past and the reason she decided to leave her life behind, and I need to know the identity of whoever killed the Girl in the pier.

There's already so many questions to answer and I need them now.
