Oh my stars, this book. Y'all, I came to the world of Shannara quite by accident many years ago. I was at a little tiny, middle-of-nowhere library and wanted a fantasy novel. I picked up the first Shannara book, having zero clue who the author was. And that, as they say, was that. I have lived in Shannara ever since, and am sad...nay, devasted...to have read the last book. But in usual Terry Brooks fashion, it was BRILLIANT. An absolutely, wonderfully, all-consuming, brilliant novel. I loved every word of it!! A definite recommend. Also, you should grab the first novel. And the second. And all the rest of them.

I've only jumped in and out of the Shannara journey, but each time has been enjoyable. My husband has read them all and while it wasn't quite the ending expected, it is nice to have a conclusion to this series. Overall I would say if you've read any of this series, go ahead and power through- you won't regret it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Del Rey Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I cannot review this novel as it was given to me for my late father to read before he passed in 2020 :)

'The Last Druid' by Terry Brooks is exactly what you have come to expect from the prolific writer. This title is the big finally, some will think it falls flat but most will be happy with the conclusion.

As our final book in the series, I really enjoyed the way this all tied up things. Did I have overly high expectations for it? Maybe. However, it has all of the same lovable elements from the series and Terry Brooks really knows his niche and audience well.

I grew up reading the Shannara chronicles. They were definitely responsible for starting my love of reading in general and my love of fantasy books specifically. Reading this conclusion to that world felt a little bittersweet to me. That being said, I feel like no ending could have lived up to the feelings the beginnings created. I enjoyed this and appreciate the closure as it was given, but I wish it had been so much more.

I am obsessed with The Shannara Chronicles! I’ve not been invested as long as some other people. It’s bittersweet that it’s over but it was ended well.

Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the advanced e-reader copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

I started reading the Shannara series when I was in middle school, and now at 30 years old, finally the story has come to a close.

And yet, it didn't feel like it came to a close, not really. There was nothing about this book that made it a "last book in the Shannara universe" in regard to a final, satisfying conclusion. It just kind of....stopped. I felt like I had invested so much emotionally in the characters and dedicated so much time to the world that there wasn't enough of a payoff at the very, very end.

It is hard to believe that such a long lasting series is finally over! It is kind of bittersweet that that this is the last one but it completes it all well. This book starts right off after the last one but it is easy enough to pick up when you haven't read the others in awhile. Tarsha is a good character, strong but still struggling and it was fun to travel with her and Driskir as he fought to escape the prison he had been thrown into.

The Elfstones trilogy was my favorite but this one was good with the mix of magic and science and I am glad I got a chance to see the end.

Terry Brooks is a master at his art. What else needs to be said? If your a fan of the Shannara series then this one definitely doesn't disappoint.

It took me a long time to finally bring myself to read The Last Druid. Not because I didn’t want to read it, but because it’s the final book of the 29-book Shannara series that introduced me to fantasy novels in my childhood. Bringing this series to a close signals the end of a long-standing era for me, so it was bittersweet. As for the book itself, it reads beautifully as is to be expected from Terry Brooks. The story moves quickly, introducing us to wild creatures and even wilder adventures. I would have liked to have seen more of Tarsha, but that does not take away from the quality of the final novel at all. The Last Druid is the perfect end to a nostalgic era that I will never forget.

The Last Druid is the epic conclusion to the Fall of Shannara series. It is bittersweet. Tarsha has been through a lot, has lost so many loved ones. This was truly an epic adventure and battle.

As usual, Terry Brooks does not disappoint. I love how the story weaves between characters, showing the reader what is happening in all the different lives while giving hints of what might be coming next.
The Last Druid mesmerizes with its setting and takes the reader on an epic adventure. Seeing each character learn and grow was wonderful.
Grianne is probably my favorite character of all time. She's been a little bit of everything, and getting to adventure with her again made the book better than I could have hoped.

Was this really the end...? I'm not so sure! I've been reading the Shannara series since I discovered them 25 years ago and have been completely entranced with the happenings of the Ohmsford family and their connection with the fabled elfstones over the centuries. The Last Druid is the latest addition and while advertised as the conclusion of the entire Shannara series, it's more of just an end to the most recent storyline.

After so many books in the series, it's no surprise that some of the writing has become rather predictable and while I enjoyed this book, one gets the feeling that Mr. Brooks is weary of writing more stories set in the Shannara world. I feel like there's still more that can be explored. I'm still holding out hope that it's not the end for Shannara.

I have been reading Terry Brooks for years. His books never disappoint. I always recommend them to anyone into high fantasy or urban fantasy. People quickly become fans. The book was as good as the first one I read

The Last Druid by Terry Brooks is the fourth book in the Fall of Shannara. This from what I understand is the last book for the wonderful world Brooks has built over the years.

First thing of note is while I have read books from this world I have not read any from this series. Secondly is that I have not committed to reading consistently in this world. If you are like me put down this book and go read the first books in this series then read this because it is good. While beautifully written this book is not easy to dive in. Definitely not a stand alone which made it extremely hard to read. I made it and I want to go read the others in the series. That's all I am saying because I just do not have enough knowledge to say anything else.

Four stars for being beautifully written. I would probably have given five stars if I had read previous books. Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for ARC. This is an honest review.

The last book in the epic Shannara series (maybe). The world of Shannara has lived almost as long as I have and to have it come to an end is a bit hard to grasp. This story is an amazing adventure and a wonderful end to the series. I enjoyed the story and the characters from start to finish. I would like to hope that Brooks might add another book in the future but if not I was satisfied with this one.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy. The opinions are my own.

Fantastic end to a fantastic series

The Shannara series has been part of me most of my adult life. I began with THE SWORD OF SHANNARA back in the very late 1970’s and eagerly moved on to THE ELFSTONES OF SHANNARA and THE WISHSONG OF SHANNARA. They captured my imagination. I missed some stops in the 30 or 40 Shannara books, but I am glad I took the time to read this one.

The Last Druid is all you have come to expect from a Terry Brooks book. The pages are filled with adventure and quests, magic and fate-filled battles. The writing style is smooth and easy to get lost in.

The book centers around the Druids of Skaar as well as Tarsha Kaynin and her ultimate showdown with Clizia Poise. I confess that as with other broad landscape fantasy books I tended to become more involved with one character than the others. In this book, I lost some interest when Tarsha was not in full focus.

THE LAST DRUID ends the “Fall of Shannara” series and purports to end the Shannara series as a whole. One can only hope that Brooks – as with his faithful readers – finds his mind wandering back to Shannara wondering what new adventures await. If that happens, perhaps we might yet read a new volume.

I was given this book with the promise that I would offer an honest review. All I can say is that I recommend it highly!

Another thoroughly entertaining Shannara book full of twists and turns that kept me reading to the last page. Hard to believe after so many years this series is done. I've always enjoyed Mr. Brooks books from the original titles to The Last Druid.
