These were so simple and helpful but also so delicious, and pretty unusual ideas too. They're not uncommon ingredients but used in different ways that make you excited to try this out. About the alkaline concept itself, I'm still on the fence, but it does come up a lot in relation to various conditions and it might be worth trying the diet to see if there are improvements. She thoroughly explains what it means and how to structure your meals and prep your kitchen for it. And it's worth it alone for the edamame, coconut, lime soup recipe!

I was not familiar with the Alkaline Diet concept prior to picking up The One-Pot Alkaline Diet Cookbook by Sharisse Dalby, but as a foodie and someone who is always trying to improve the health of my family, I thought I'd give it a go. Plus, who doesn't love the idea of a one-pot kitchen!

It took me awhile to get into the science of the diet itself, and I did end up visiting Mr. Google for some additional information, but that maybe says more about my need to understand something fully than it does about this cookbook. The front section of the cookbook includes some useful tips and hints, as well as basic information - a primer, if you will.

But the real heart of this cookbook is the recipes. They're categories into seven groups: Smoothies, Super Salads, Satisfying Soups, Dutch Oven Dinners, Casseroles, Skillful Skillets, One Pots, and Sheet Pan Suppers.

Over the course of nearly two weeks, I tried a couple recipes from each category other than Smoothies - I'm not a huge fan. And the recipes were great! Instructions were clear and logical, all the nutritional info was available, and when needed, any extras were also included. For example, one of my favorite recipes was the Cajun Sweet Potato Fried with Mashed Black Beans, and it included an awesome Cajun seasoning recipe, which made the dish.

Another great recipe - and example of the author putting in a little more effort - was the Maple-Tahini Yam Soup recipe, which started off with some good info about choosing maple syrup.

The only downside is the lack of photos. It isn't a deal-breaker for me, but I do like to have something to lookout to gauge my success against. :)

As someone who loves to cook, and rarely prepares the same dish twice, I love a good cookbook, and The One-Pot Alkaline Diet Cookbook by Sharisse Dalby is a keeper. The recipes are creative, fun to make and yummy. I'm not sure I'll be adhering to the Alkaline Diet anytime soon, but I do know I've already added several of the recipes from this book to upcoming menus.
