Reading this thriller, I was hooked from the start and the story kept me on edge, suspecting everyone, as a mystery is unraveled. A four-year-old child, Holly, is missing and three months later appears in the same park. Holly’s mother, Cecily, has secrets about what happened the day Holly disappeared. When another girl disappears twenty years later, Holly’s help is needed to find the child. Told in alternating points of view, the story moves at a brisk pace and has a satisfying ending. I was cheering for Holly and Celeste all the way and plan to read the author’s other novels. Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

For some reason, this book and I just didn't mesh well. I didn't find the main character enjoyable to read and I had a tough time buying the friendship between her and Kitten *cringe*

I mystery was interesting and I know others will really love this one - if the synopsis sounds like your kind of story, grab it. Maybe I'm just having an off day.....

The Day I Disappeared was rather dull as far as mysteries/thrillers go. For me, a key component in what makes for a good mystery/thriller is having twists and turns that I don't see coming--and not because they are simply too ridiculous to possibly see coming, but instead are only obvious in hindsight with endings that are clearly being built up to from the beginning. Unfortunately, this book just did not have that key component and fell pretty solidly into the predictable category. Not to mention that the book didn't really have anything very fresh or new to offer the genre, and it kind of felt like I've read three other books like this one. Overall, it was a distinctly average read.

Three months after a young girl, Holly, is kidnapped, she is returned to her parents apparently unharmed. She has no memory of the incident. Twenty years later, a similar kidnapping takes place, and Holly helps in the investigation. The story is told from both Holly’s perspective and that of her mother, who is comatose following an automobile accident and who has her own demons.

Although this novel was slow moving plot wise for me, it was a good read with a fair amount of twists and turns. However, the characters fell flat for me and seemed underdeveloped. Additionally, there were so of them that they made the story confusing at times, and virtually all of them were difficult to connect with. (I especially found Holly’s best friend Kitty particularly difficult, especially as a Bridezilla.) Nonetheless, I look forward to what Brandi Reeds writes next for her adult audience.

This is my first book by this author. Holly, as a child gets kidnapped and returned three months later with no memory of what happened. There is tension between Holly and her mother. Now, twenty years later another girl is kidnapped and the police want Holly’s help. The reason for three stars is because it was slow and tedious at times. I also figured it out. It had some twists and turns. I want to thank net galley and the publisher for this ARC I received for an honest review.

I'll admit, this book took me quite a long time to read. The beginning had me quite confused, and it didn't really draw me in. It wasn't the type of book that you would feel obsessed with reading, like you're immediately hooked in. It was slowly paced from the beginning to the middle, I'd say. Though, I understand why it was slowly paced, because Holly is battling with her past rising up, especially when she has no memories of the incident. So being pushed to help out in the case really does change a lot for her.

The book is interesting in the way it is wrote; it's a dual point of view. One chapter is of Holly, while the other is her mother, Cecily, who is in a coma. So the way the story is told, is two different stories. Holly talks about the present, while Cecily is stuck in her thoughts, explaining herself and her choices/actions. Eventually, the reader gets more information than Holly, but it didn't really piece all together, like where you could say "Oh yeah! That's where that happened, or that's what she meant!", until like into three quarters of the book.

I'd give the book a three stars, because the start of the book didn't really set it into stone for me. It was interesting, but it wasn't enough, to get me to keep on reading. But I'd say to keep on reading, because later on in the book, does everything does get going. And there are some well put surprises.

What a read! Like Holly I suspected pretty much everyone at points but didn’t quite get it right. I liked how it all tied together at the end,

Talk about edge of your seat, heart pounding, suspenseful, you name it, this book has it. I had gotten to the point, near the end, when Holly was trying to figure out who it was that I got this intense feeling of fear, like something bad was going to happen. It was so strong that I figured it had to be something, other than the book. I locked all my doors, told my husband to be careful at work and then as quickly as it came on, it was over when the danger was gone for Holly. Never have I had that happen when reading before.

This is the kind of book that will grip you and make you question everyone you know and your own safety. There were so many twists and turns, I didn't know who to trust. The even more scary part is how realistic this could essentially be. Little kids go missing all the time. Some come back. Are they truly ever safe? Especially if the right guy isn't behind bars? How do you really know when the kids are so young and impressionable?

This was crazy good. I definitely reccomend falling deep into the world of Holly but make sure you time it so that the end of the book is being read during the daylight and you're not alone.

Caught my attention from the first sentence. I couldn't put the book down. It kept me guessing chapter after. The characters were well developed. Definitely formed an opinion about them Loved the book and will read again.

After reading the first few chapters I was able to guess what's happening. The story seemed unoriginal and I hate that I was able to guess what was happening so quickly. Hopefully others will enjoy the plot.

This was a fantastic read! I am truly amazed by this book. The plot twists and suspense were on point. I loved the characters, the writing style, the excellent narration and the mystery element. It is a real page turner and it kept me hooked until the very end. I became a detective myself trying to solve the case but I did not do a good job because every character seemed suspicious which actually shows how beautifully the author has written the book. I am so impressed!

Thank you NetGalley for an e-ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Predictable, yet entertaining. Not much is left to the imagination here but there is still a lot to appreciate. The storyline is dark but excellently plotted. Overall, a dark and disturbing read.

I got The Day I Disappeared by Brandi Reeds, from Netgalley for a fair and honest review

The Day I Disappeared tells the story of Holly who was kidnapped as a four year old and returned back to where she was taken from, with little memory of the events. A handyman who was also a friend of the family was convicted of the crime. Her mother was also under suspicion of helping but this was not proved, however it did drive a gap between the family members.

Now twenty years later Holy is contacted by a detective Jason Guidry, who tells her that another girl has gone has gone missing in similar circumstances. With Holly’s memory, missing a large amount of details about her kidnapping even now, and her mother in a coma after an accident. She is gradually pieces it together thinking she may know the kidnapper.

This is really well written mystery thriller, the way that the way that the story drifts between present day telling the story through Holly as well as using the memories of he mother as she thinks of the events while she is in a coma. This allows the author to drip feed information to the reader, while keeping it away from Holly’s investigations.

What I liked about the mystery part of the novel was that some time during the story I suspected most of the characters, at one point or time or the other and even kept jumping back from one to the other throughout the book.

This story to me fits all the points of a good mystery thriller, to this end as a thriller reader you should add Brandi Reed’s new book The Day I Disappeared to your TBR.

When she was 4 years old, Holly was kidnapped and returned to the same park from which she disappeared three months later. Although she didn't have any memories, a man got convicted. Twenty years later, another girl disappears in similar circumstances and the Detective in charge of the new case thinks Holly might be able to help solve it.

When I received the widget for this one I had never heard about this book or its author and it's been a pleasant surprise as I enjoyed it pretty much. It is told in dual perspectives, Holly's and her mum Cecily. In Holly's chapters we learn about the present investigation and her role in it while she tries to remember what happened to her all those years ago. She gets some glimpses into the past, but are they real? Are they a dream? Cecily's in a coma after a suspicious car accident, and in her chapters she tells us about the past and the events that took place around Holly's kidnapping. But soon we learn she may be not telling all the truth as she has some secrets to hide.

What follows is a fun page turner where you can't trust anyone. You come to suspect every single character as they all are pretty unreliable. The only character I didn't liked and think could have been more fleshed out was Kitten, as she came as selfish and self-absorbed. The fact that both narrators were pretty unrealiable themselves made this a quite intriguing read. With several twists thrown around (some of them should be taken with a pinch of salt) in the end all leads to a satisfying conclusion. Some side plots got resolved quite quickly and I would have liked for a little more depth.

Brandi Reeds' books never fail to amaze me! I was so excited when I heard that she had a new book coming out. And I wasn't let down. I flew through right this book! From the very first page, I was hooked. Quick summary: Holly was kidnapped for several months as a young child and doesn't remember who took her or what happened to her. She has flashbacks throughout the book leading her to question who in her life now she can trust. Throughout the book, she starts to distrust everyone and myself as the reader was starting to question each of the characters as well. I was trying to guess along with Holly who the kidnapper was and I definitely didn't guess correctly! What a great, fast-paced book!

Thank you to NetGalley & Lake Union Publishing for the advanced copy - I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Reeds does a good jjob of building tension in THE DAY I DISAPPEARED and creates interesting characters, but the ending was a disappointment. The resolution didn't fit well with the rest of the book because it could not be anticipated and did not ring true.

This was my first by this author. I would definitely classify this more as a suspenseful women's fiction, although it had elements of your traditional mystery/suspense it leaned more on the women's fiction side. It was a bit predictable but still an entertaining read nonetheless. The writing was well done and characters well-developed. I enjoyed the small twists and turns along the way. it was a slower burn than my usual but I think the story suited this pace well.

I look forward to seeing what this author comes out with in the future.
