In the beginning of this book, Lisa was truly a girl. Like the fashion she loved, she thought she had to play a certain persona to be the wife Erich wanted. Only when she actually started living for herself and her own happiness, did she become a woman. Although young, Beth and Juliet liked who they are and never were afraid to get what they want and deserve. Ambition was never thwarted for love. As a result, all three women had the happy ending that ended in true love.

I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining. I liked the descriptions of the different locations on Nantucket. There were a lot of characters, but it was fairly easy to keep them straight.

I didn’t think the characters were as well written as her usual work. The first couple of chapters were a lot of backstory was wasn’t really necessary. I still feel like I don’t really KNOW the characters.

This book was an easy distraction during the day. It was not my favorite of Thayer’s books.

Nancy Thayer welcomes us again to her beloved Nantucket in her latest novel, The Girls of Summer. I received a copy of this title from NetGalley and the opinions stated below are my own.

Lisa, her daughter, Juliet, and Beth all live on Nantucket. Lisa owns an amazing boutique in town and lives in a vintage home that needs repairing NOW. Web developer Juliet has just returned to Nantucket to collect herself after a humiliating experience at work. And Beth is the high school best friend of Lisa's son Theo. She's home after earning her Master's degree and looking for a job.

When Lisa hires younger local craftsman Mack to fix her living room and bathroom, she's surprised by the feelings that take over and remind her that she's capable of love after all. However, she needs to work through her own insecurities and learn to trust

Juliet and Beth find their ways as well in their own situations. Juliet is captivated by an older man, Ryder, and Beth learns to deal with her own emotions when her father, Mack, becomes interested in the mother of her high school friend and longtime love. When the town comes together during a crisis, each woman discovers what she wants from her life and how to get it.

The stories between Lisa, Juliet, and Beth engage without becoming too complicated and, as usual, Nancy Thayer entices us to want to visit (if not move to) Nantucket with her lavish descriptions and knowledge that only a longtime resident could share. An excellent summer read!

This story follows Lisa from a young girl in love to an older woman finding a second chance at love. Along the way we meet her family and friends. This is a good summer read. I liked most of the characters and enjoyed following their lives from afar. Thank you to net galley for an advanced copy.

When I get to read a new book by one of my favorite summer authors, I get very excited. I also try not to compare one book to another. Lisa is a woman in her 50s who has been through a lot. We meet her while still in college but we whip through her life very, very quickly. I would have rather have meet Lisa at 56 and then learned her backstory through either flashbacks or her simply telling her story to other characters. The characters also seemed quite shallow and I'm really ok with characters in "women's fiction" falling in love very quickly but to have 3 couples doing it was a bit too much.
On the positive side, I really liked that the author included elements of conversation and climate change in this novel.
Sad to say I was disappointed in this book.

I received a copy of this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. I have enjoyed most of Thayer's books and I was thrilled to receive this title. I loved the first seventy percent of this book. The story was interesting and the characters were people I wanted to know. The last 30% went way to fast and wrapped up in a neat little bow and it was too quick and I was disappointed by that.

A lovely read for a quarantined day. It brings us to a beautiful place with water and beaches, a good antidote for cabin fever.

The story of Lisa, her doomed marriage and ultimate satisfaction. I like the fact that it carries Lisa well into middle age and has closure for all the characters

It is utterly predictable which takes away some of the joy.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC, especially now when I so appreciate reading.

An easy, breezy summer read. This was exactly what I have come to expect from Nancy Thayer. In this story she deals with the criticism placed on age difference in relationships, as well as the complex relationships between parents and kids. Over all, this was a good read and I will continue to read Thayer's books. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Over and over again, I fall in love with Nancy Thayer's Nantucket, and with her characters. A perfect read while sheltering during this frightening time

From the outside, Lisa's marriage glowed like her two-carat engagement ring. While behind closed doors, she's living in a shell of a marriage. When forced to pick up the pieces, her savvy retail expertise has Lisa set 'Sail' on a new adventure.

As the proprietor of Sail, a boutique clothing store, she's at the helm of her business and family but steers clear of romance. When a handyman reawakens her childhood desires, she feels like one of the #GirlsofSummer. While falling for Mack, she feels conflicted about dating a man ten years her junior. As their family relationships intertwine, will it be smooth sailing or rough waters ahead?

Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early read. I enjoy Nancy Thayer's beach reads as they offer a trip to the shore without the sunscreen. Due to recent events, we need an escape from being sequestered at home. Thayer's charm is creating characters that readers want to succeed and feel like friends. Despite winter's chill, I was happily curled under the comforter while basking in Nantucket's sun.

I am grateful to have had a good summery read for this week. It’ll be great to take to the beach too.

This book is based around a couple families on Nantucket.
Lisa was married until her husband left her when she was in her forties. His parting words were cruel and they kind of scarred her, she didn’t even attempt to date. She focused on her kids Juliet and Theo first and she made an amazing career for herself. She now has a very successful women’s clothing boutique. Her kids are in their late twenties and were off living their own lives. Lisa is now in her mid fifties when she runs into Mack again.

Mack is ten years younger than her. There’s not a chance you’ll forget this cause everyone in the story mentions it multiple times. The only one who doesn’t have a problem with the age difference is Mack.

Juliet and Theo both come back home to Nantucket and find their mom living her own life. Juliet isn’t sure she trusts Mack, she thinks he might be after her mother’s money or might break her heart.

Theo likes Mack just fine. In fact, Theo has been in love with Mack’s daughter since he was a teenager. But she used to date his best friend, so they never had a chance to be together. Now he might have his chance, but with their parents dating, they are both pretty uncomfortable with what it could all mean.

I enjoyed the book. I liked most of the couples. I wasn’t wild about Juliet’s love interest but I had all the respect for the way Juliet kept her eyes open.

This was a quick read for me, but possibly because I read it during the social distancing. And once you’ve started a book, in this situation, why stop?

I also always love the Nantucket setting. It reminds me of Elin Hilderbrand books.

I got to read an early ebook edition from NetGalley. Thanks!

What an amazing and wonderful read. The characters came from all over the place in how they started to fit together in the puzzle of their life. I enjoyed everyone coming back to town and making it better than it was before. I would recommend this to all my friends.

A perfectly light read for the times we are in.

Sometimes you need to read something light - and now could never be a more appropriate time to reach for a mindless read. With the uncertainty circulating amidst us and the stress that has been settling in, a vacation or poolside read is perfect. A vacation from the mind is what we need, especially when most of us are cooped up everyday. Thayer is definitely one of those "go-to" authors I will reach for in a pinch. Whenever I'm stressed or feeling blue I like to read Thayer. She immediately gets me out of my bubble or out of whatever I'm worrying about.

This is a tale of relationships, secrets, and love-lost and love-won. I would have appreciated more character development as well as more history on the characters. Other than that, it was a fine read. I'll be recommending to both readers and customers.

This is the first book I've read by Nancy Thayer. I know she's a popular author in the summer romance/beach reads genre. In normal times, I'd have criticized the novel's utter lack of conflict - it's a nice story where things work out in a lovely way for pretty much everyone. But I read this in the second week of quarantine due to a global pandemic. And for that set of circumstances? This book was exactly what was needed.

A high point of the story is the female characters - they are interesting, likable, and I was rooting for them. They were people I'd like to be friends with. This is a cozy read for when you need to be reminded that love is possible, people can be good, and the story isn't over. The plot moves quickly, there are interesting tidbits of information about life on Nantucket and what it's like to live there year-round, and each of the characters has a nice developmental arc. Thayer is my new go-to author for when I need a pick-me-up.

Lisa grew up on Nantucket big is her happy place. When college and marriage take her on another path , she return to Nantucket. Having to start over at the age of fifty six is not something she wants to do.
I enjoyed this book I love Nantucket books and I’m ready for summer

This book has me ready for summer to arrive! I loved Girls of Summer, just as I love all of Nancy Thayer's books. Nantucket is such a magical setting for summer romance novels. I loved getting to know Lisa, Juliet, and Theo, and need more of these characters!

4. 5 stars Feels like summer is here when I read a Nancy Thayer book and this one was no exception. Nantucket was a perfect spot to spend during the Covid 19 quarantine. Loved the relationships between Lisa, her children, Mack and Beth, and Ryder.. This book just begs for a sequel.

Nancy Thayer always creates characters that could be your friend or next door neighbor. They’re extremely real and relatable, as are the plots she writes. Lisa Hayley raised her two children by herself, making them the center of her world. Now they’re out in the world, she’s on her own, until she meets carpenter, Mack Whitney. Her children decide to come home to Nantucket and they’re worried Mack will end up hurting their mother as he’s ten years younger. They’re soon embroiled in their own romances, and all three have to figure out where their relationships are heading.
My only negative comment is the title. Girls of Summer is okay, but really doesn’t fit. I think another title would have been better.
