Another gem from Nancy Thayer! I love that I can count on a trip to Nantucket when I pick up one of her books. Such a beautiful setting, no matter the season. Girls of Summer is the story of Lisa from her early marriage to her years after the divorce from her unsatisfied husband. Raising her two children and running a boutique has been fulfilling for Lisa for all these years. Now however, with her children grown and out of the house, Lisa is wondering if she is missing something in her life. This was a touching story of family and new love with a nice twist at the end!

Girls of Summer by author Nancy Thayer is a summer story of family, trust, and new romance. Lisa Hawley thought she would live a glamourous life of prestige and travel when she first married Erich. After a couple of years she decided to have children, and later moved back to live on Nantucket Island as Erich continued to travel the world for his career. During the years of Lisa and Erich living mostly apart, they each had a different focus for their lives. Lisa loved being a mother and Erich lived for his job, travel, and affairs with other women. Lisa confronts Erich about the time he spends away from home and he admits he does not love her and prefers to live apart. They decide to divorce and Erich does not want any future relationship with Lisa, Juliet, and Theo.
Lisa lives her life completely for her children until they are teenagers, then she starts working at a women's clothing boutique on the island. Her success blossoms but she has never forgotten the insults and inferior feelings left by Erich. Life changes drastically one summer for Lisa and her family.
I appreciate how the main characters of Lisa, Mack, Julie, Ryder, Theo, and Beth are all wonderful people of integrity and kindness. Each of them has had heartaches and disappointments but continued to find acceptance, purpose, and love in their lives.

There's no lighthearted, family oriented, happily-ever-after writer better than Nancy Thayer! I love the Nantucket setting and being there is a nice reprieve from reality.

This story centers around Lisa, who is 56 years old, divorced, and has two grown children. She has spent the majority of her adult life as a single parent and has not dated since her husband left. It seems that she's caught the eye of a man ten years her junior. Oh my! I won't spoil any of the fun by saying anymore.

Grab this book and a glass of wine and get lost in the beauty of Nantucket.

Tried and true fans of Nancy Thayer will enjoy the Girls of Summer. I enjoyed the setting and summer feel of the book and the multiple POVs. I did struggle with how she started the book. It through the pacing off and I struggled through. In places the story picked up and others it lagged. Any library with a Thayer following will want to have this book on hand, but otherwise you can skip this purchase.

This was a nice beach read. The setting was beautiful and well written, however. It made me seriously want to go to Nantucket! This was definitely a palate cleanser after reading several thrillers lately. But, I just found it on the cheesy side. I did enjoy the age gap romance. It is nice to read a comforting book with a soothing ending. I'm tossed between a 3-4 star on this one. Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book.

I didn’t love this book... it took me awhile to get through it. The storm that come through at the end was haphazardly placed out of the blue and I thought the relationship pairings were awkward. I rate it as a 2.5, but rounded up to 3 stars. So while not my cup of tea, I am thankful for the ARC copy. I’ve read many of Thayer’s books and will continue to read her works. This one was just a miss for me!

Nancy Thayer has given exactly what you would want in a summer read. It is light and fun and full of love. There is a little bit of drama to keep you intrigued. This book is perfect to read on the beach or by the pool. The characters are likable but could certainly be a little more developed although that didn't take away from the enjoyability of the story one bit. If you want a fun summer read or if you wish you were spending your summer in Nantucket, grab this one on your way to the beach!

Nancy Thayer is one of my new favorites! I have read several of her books and have not yet been disappointed. This book was no different. I enjoyed how she gave us the "full picture" of this family. I only wish that she had tied tied up all loose ends as I felt that there were still a few things at the end of the book that were not fully resolved.
Once again, Thayer kept me engaged and entertained. She tackles difficult issues with grace and a little but of humor. The story was both entertaining and relatable. 5 Stars!

Girls of Summer by Nancy Thayer is the very description of a Summer Book. I could not stop reading this delightful book. I flew through it in a day. Thayer describes everything with such vivid detail and finds a way to bring these characters to life. With the stunning location of Nantucket and the mouth-water description of local food I felt transported to the Island.

Fate entwined the many lives of the Island inhabitants and Lisa is no different. Lisa, a fifty-six year old mother of two adult children, Juliet and Theo deserves to find love of her own. Mack is a forty-six year old widow and father to Beth. He has never brought a woman home since his wife died when his daughter was three. I found it so refreshing to have a story where life can be complicated but love doesn’t always have to be. Sometimes, it can be straightforward and it was so enjoyable in this book. She nails multi-generational love stories in a way that shows you are never too young or too old to fall in love. I loved these characters and rooted for these characters and let me tell you, everyone needs a friend like Rachel! What a perfect best friend character!

These characters had a summer like no other and Thayer tied it all together so seamlessly. This book is such an enjoyable summer read. It is the perfect companion to a poolside day. This book comes out May 26th. Do not miss it! It is the perfect kick start to the summer!

While I might not get to spend any time at the beach this summer, this is the perfect book to escape into. This book follows Lisa and how she has gotten to this point in her life, alone and in a huge house in desperate need of some repairs on Nantucket. As Lisa realizes that the marriage she once had might have never been true love, she is missing her grown children. She wants nothing more than for them to come home, but she hasn't seen her son in years and her daughter flutters into her life when its convenient for her. After the ceiling literally falls on her head, she hires local contractor, Mack to fix the ceilings and bathroom in her house. What she doesn't expect is to be interested in him. While trying to overcome the rejection of her ex-husband from so long ago, Lisa might just be ready to explore a relationship with Mack, only to have both her children come home to complicate it. Lisa's daughter Juliet thinks the age difference between her mother and Mack is much too far apart until she meets Ryder who is 10 years older than her. Her son Theo doesn't want Lisa to be with Mack because he is still in love with Mack's daughter Beth.

This book was a quick, fun read. While there is a definite story line, I do feel like the plot could have been further developed. There is a lot of back story to how Lisa got to where she is today, but once you get to the present, things move quickly and have a sense of simplicity. There is always a hint of the complications of Mack and Lisa being together and Theo and Beth wanting to be together, but it remains surface level and trails off without a hitch. However, I enjoyed the book and will definitely give Nancy Thayer's next book a read.

This is a story about lost love and new loves and some of the scenes are funny due to nobody wanting to step on anyone toes due to the awkwardness of the dating situations. This book made me feel like I was in Nantucket with the characters. This is a wonderful read, I gave it 4 stars.!

I hold all Nantucket books to high standards and this book held up well. The setting was well described and by the end of the book, I felt like I actually knew all of the girls. Loved the build up leading up to the end. Well done!

What I love about Nancy Thayer books is that I'm never disappointed! She consistently shares a story with a variety of viewpoints, perspectives to consider and moves the story to a satisfying ending! In Girls of Summer the main character, Lisa's story is one of heartbreak, motherhood, building a belief in herself while contemplating if she wants to trust love after so many years of being alone. Her children Theo and Juliet providing interesting storylines of their own as they navigate childhood into adulthood. Thayer does a beautiful job of weaving the storylines together - sometimes under the same roof! Perfect summer read filled with love, family, the setting of the ocean and learning to trust oneself at a variety of ages and experiences in the story!

I have really enjoyed reading all of Nancy's stories. They are always heartfelt and family oriented. Lots of twists and turns and of course romance. Her books come alive with great storylines,fun characters and you always feel you are in that town...They always make me want to settle in on the couch for a afternoon of reading that turns into a whole day. I highly recommend this book.

Having read a few of Nancy Thayer's books in the past, I was excited to read her latest, "Girls of Summer", and it did not disappoint! It is the story of Lisa Hawley, who is newly divorced from her college sweetheart, and living on Nantucket, where she herself grew up, and where she raised her kids. Lisa's kids are now all grown and out of the house, and Lisais running a successful women's clothing store on the island. Having focused on her kids while they were growing up, Lisa never dated until recently, when she begins dating local islander Mack Whitney, whom she has hired to do work on her older home. Just as her relationship with Mack is starting to evolve, admist Lisa's concerns that Mack is 10 years her junior, Lisa's 2 children come back to Nantucket to stay with her for the summer, leaving Lisa and Mack with some difficulties in their relationship. Lisa's son, Theo, a surfer has returned from California after an injury, and falls for Mack's daughter, Beth, who he was in love with in high school, and who has also recently come back to Nantucket to live with her father. In addition, Lisa's daughter Juliet has returned as well, and is in love with a man older than her, Ryder Hastings, who is bringing his nonprofit environmental group to the island. The three couples are left trying to figure out whether their summer relationships are truly destined for something more, even though each has their own concerns.

"Girls of Summer" was a perfect summer read in a beautiful Nantucket setting. Its about relationships, family, finding the strength in oneself, and the good things that can come about from taking chances. I highly recommend, and look forward to more from Nancy Thayer in the future!

i have enjoyed lots of books by this author in the past and continue to love her books. when i was given the opportunity to read another one of hers i was excited and was not disappointed.

the story follows Lisa and Erich who end up getting a divorce and Lisa can start her life living in her new home in Nantucket. while she goes about restoring the home she meets Mach, a younger guy that she is worried that others will pass judgement on because he is young.
this is a nice beach read with romance and chick lit. grab the book, your sunglasses and hat and have a day of reading.

Nancy Thayer is one of my go-to authors when I want an evocative, comforting, female-centric story (or if I want to indulge in my dream of living on Nantucket). Even the books that aren't as fast-paced are usually an enjoyable read, so I was super excited to pick up Girls of Summer.

Unfortunately, the book fell flat for me. It felt like the plot was just getting started in the last 20% of the pages and then it wrapped rather abruptly. I kept reading because I was waiting for a plotline to emerge, and it just didn't happen.

As a fan of Nancy's, I was disappointed; however, this won't stop me from reading her next book. For people who want a light read with an overall feel-good vibe, you'll probably enjoy it. It has so many of the hallmarks of her books, I just would have loved a little more plot driving it.

Another great book by Nancy Thayer. Her writing just keeps getting better and better after every book. A great love story of young and older people. What it is like to live and be around people your whole life. I could not put this book down, absolutely loved it. Will be recommending to people this summer.
