Bob Goff is a tremendously influential person and is a captivating writer. I will be honest, although I fully enjoyed this book, it doesn’t quite live up to his previous books 'Love Does' and 'Everybody, Always'. I also am reading his yearly devotional 'Live in Grace, Walk in Love'. Many of his stories in 'Dream Big' are ones I had already read in his previous books (especially his devotional), so it felt a little repetitive to me. Even so, I was captured by his writing and if you are someone out there who has been sitting or waiting on a life dream, you should definitely read this book. He is an inspiring, humble person doing big things to change the world.

I was chosen as a member of Bob Goff’s launch team and received an ARC through Netgalley.

Do you know who you are, what you want and why you want it? These are three questions I’ve been exploring about myself after being selected to join the launch team for Bob Goff’s new book, Dream Big.

It’s the kind of conversation I tend to put off having with myself until I feel like the time is right. But when something disrupts my routine like this pandemic has, I’m more inclined to reflect and adjust my focus.

Reading Dream Big made me feel like I wasn’t just daydreaming about what my life could look like in the future. It felt like I was sitting around having a deep conversation with an old friend about my childhood dreams, what held me back from going after them and what I still want to pursue. But instead of just leaving me with the warm and fuzzy feeling of a good conversation, I left with a clear list of my ambitions and action ideas for how to pursue my biggest dreams.

It can be difficult to take an honest look at who we are, where we are and what we want, but as Bob describes it, “Here’s what makes it worth it: when we sort through all the words written by ourselves and others, and when we discard what isn’t true or doesn’t matter anymore, we’ll find the clarity we need to choose the desires that are worth pursuing. What’s left over will be your truest, most beautiful, and lasting ambitions.”

As he pulls you into this soul-searching conversation in Dream Big, Bob weaves his own personal anecdotes together with stories of friends he’s met throughout his life to present interesting and insightful life lessons that inspire the reader to leave behind limiting beliefs and distractions to boldly pursue meaningful ambitions.

Concluding with a generous section of reflection questions and action ideas for uncovering and taking steps toward your biggest dreams, Dream Big provides a practical launching point for wholehearted pursuit of your most fulfilling ambitions.

The questions and action ideas come from Bob’s Dream Big Framework, a 2-day workshop that has helped thousands of people define and accomplish their dreams.

An expert in dreaming big and making bold life changes, Bob quit his own law firm after 25 years of practicing law. In 2003, he founded a nonprofit human rights organization serving children in conflict zones. The organization is known today as Love Does. Bob’s 2012 book by the same name is a New York Times bestseller.

Do you want to dream big dreams and get serious about pursuing your most worthwhile ambitions? Get a copy of Dream Big and let Bob lead you into an honest conversation with yourself that gives you the push you need to get started.

“Let’s stop deferring, ignoring, and screwing around, distracting ourselves with things that won’t really matter next week, much less in our next life. Let’s instead throw our efforts and emotional weight into those ambitions which will outlast us and leave all the rest behind.” - Bob Goff, Dream Big

I liked this one because it read like a collection of pieces of advice from a father or grandfather. The tone is friendly, like a pep talk from someone who really believes you're the guy for the job, namely to work on your own ambition(s).
Although the book is structured into seven main parts each with a stated idea and its own chapters, I found the book to be somewhat disjointed. I don't know if this is because I read it framentarily, or because, repeatedly, the final point of each part was to focus on your ambition. Do you know those quotes that aim to lift you up and encourage you to get things done? This read like that, and this is the overall tone.
The structure is like this: there's a story and then it transitions into telling the reader how this applies to our lives and ambitions. I loved all those stories and how they did actually drive home the point he was trying to make. However, make sure you get the idea of the stories, because I am sure not many will recognize themselves in the stories of building schools in war-ridden countries, making a bid for a town (!), setting up a flying company, or some other crazy and cool ideas.
For those who've read and enjoyed Bob Goff's previous books this might be something they're interested in. I liked Love Does and Dream Big better, the latter being more mature, less fluff, and actual sound, practical ways to get things moving towards your most desired ambition. In typical Goff way, there's the constant reminder to pay attention to the people around you, to surround yourself with the right people, and to love people.
Read it like a gentle nudge to move forward with your more or less wild ambitions that take up the most space in your head and heart.

Bob Goff's writing is always encouraging, challenging and inviting. This book asks simple but hard questions about who you are, what you want and helps you create an action plan for setting your dreams in motion. This book is well-written, insightful and will even make you laugh!

What a great quarantine read! Now is the time to harness all of the energy spent THINKING about pursuing dreams and turn that into ACTIONS. Having read all of Bob Goff's other books, I loved exploring the idea of "Dreaming Big" through his lens on faith and humanity. This book is a combination of Goff's sweet story-telling and a call to action. Just as with his other books, I felt motivated to improve my life and dig deeper into my faith without it feeling like a typical cheesy how-to book. I always am left feeling like Bob is my encouraging buddy after reading a book of his, and this one is no different! 10/10 recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and Nelson Books for a copy of this book for an honest review.

Dream Big • Bob Goff

⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)

“Loving people the way Jesus did is always great theology.”

👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thumbs Up:
-Lots of whimsical stories about Bob’s life
-Practical reflections and questions to go along with the content of the book.

👎🏻Thumbs Down:
Having read Bob’s other books, this one seemed a little repetitive to me with just a different spin on the “life lessons”.

🤓For readers WHO:
-Enjoy Christian life books
-Are fans of Bob Goff
-Want practical tips and motivation to go after your ambitions

👉🏼This is what’s WHAT:
This book takes after Bob’s Dream Big conference and gives you a formula for how to make your ambitions happen while felling funny stories along the way.

⏳WHEN I read this book:
A new word came to mind: Whimsy. There’s no better way to describe this author.

🚨WHERE you should watch out:
No worries here.

📍WHY you shouldn’t read this one:
If I were to recommend a Bob Goff book to you, it wouldn’t be this one, I hate to say. I find his books on how to love others more compelling than this one on going after your dreams. Personally I feel the “dream big” mindset to be redundant in Christian books lately.

📚HOW I read it:
eARC thanks to Netgalley and Nelson Books!

I hadn't heard of Bob Goff before I read this book and wasn't quite prepared for the biblical overload. I didn't enjoy the over the top style and biographical base of the book. I think it is so culturally based that it would really only be suitable for American Christians with a strong faith. I can see he is very popular and lots of people love the book, but it really wasn't for me.

It’s time to stop just thinking about your dreams and begin to take action. Stop sitting on the sidelines of life and put your thoughts and hopes and AMBITIONS in action. Bob Goff writes another incredible book with great story telling and inspiration.

Each chapter has a point, each point is laid out perfectly within the sequence of the book. After reading you feel inspired to take action. Each point is necessary along that journey.

I highly recommend this book. 100% worth your time and investment.

Bob Goff's books are always so inspiring, and this new book is perfect for anyone going through a transition or bad time. Goff's style of writing is an absolute delight. He is a born storyteller and infuses his deep thoughts with just the right amount of wit.

In this new book, Goff urges readers to get in touch with who they really are, what they really want in their lives, and what specifically they need to do to achieve these things. Like a pep talk from a friendly but eccentric uncle, Goff tells stories on himself to give you permission to try new things, explore new and exciting areas of life, and pursue your true ambitions.

Highly recommended!!!

In these uncertain times, Bob Goff reminds us that things will not always be this way. Especially relevant for new graduates, this book will inspire you to dream big.

Usually, with self help books (I know Mr. Goff stated it wasn't self help, but that's where I'd shelve it) with a Christian tone, I can skip over the religion part and still enjoy the book. Not so in this case, because it was so prevalent. However, I think readers who enjoy that, will enjoy this book. Mr. Goff was best when telling his funny often self deprecating stories. Alas, I couldn't really get into this book, but I'll give it a three star because I did enjoy his sense of humor.

I kept going back and forth about this book. I think I had heard so much hype about Bob Goff that my expectations were too high. Nevertheless I can see why people find his writing style appealing even as I don't agree with all he says and find some of his stories to be way over the top. I would prefer if he really landed on one side of whether it was a book about faith or general self help since it seemed he tried to walk the line in between the two and I in turn couldn't totally get on board with either side.

This book is one of self-discovery, finding clarity on what brings you joy, and fulfilling your purpose in life through your ambitions. It was so enjoyable to read and uplifting. It made me want to strive to accomplish the dreams I’ve held near and dear.

I very much admire Bob Goff; his kindness toward others, unwavering compassion, and strong Christian faith really inspire me. There isn’t anyone quite like him, but if more people went forth with his level of benevolence the world would be a better place.

Anything by Bob Goff is an instant bestseller in the Christian self-help world, so if he releases a new book, I'm all here for it. "Love Does" was a total **life-changer** and now, so is "Dream Big." Someone please give this man an award and a hug!

This book is a classic personal growth/ motivational guide to aiming to help you specify the what, why, where and how of your goals, as well as what steps to take to make them reality. It doesn't matter if your goals are personal or career-oriented as the advice is pretty universal. Believe me, though, that's it's NOT at all a wishy-washy you-are-great-and-strong- talk; rather, Goff gives you specific and useful advice on what /not/ to do when in doubt. My very favorite part of this book is Goff's writing: he is in equal parts encouraging, assertive, personal and warm. He uses THE BEST possible metaphors and true stories to illustrate his points, and that's something that will stick with me the most.

I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a healthy dose of Christian encouragement without it being overwhelming with Biblical verses, as many such books are. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you prefer a more down-to-earth approach, this book is for you.

Bob had a way of writing that truly feels like he’s connecting with the reader. It really felt like we were sitting and having coffee while he encouraged me to pursue my dreams. He’s funny, honest, and has a great way of making the reader feel like anything is possible if they simply make the time to pursue their ambitions. Would recommend this book to anyone!
