the first thing i can say about these few chapters is "captivating". I was so involved in the story after reading a few sentences, and that's probably the best thing reading a book, it makes me want to marathon it immediately.

This was only an 80 page excerpt, but it was enough to make me excited about how this wonderful duology will end!!!

**Thank you to Netgalley and HMH Books for Young Readers for an excerpt of this book for early review**

It's only 80 pages but I'm hooked! I've recently binged His Fair Assassin's and Courting Darkness and loved it! This sneak peak has made me so excited for the full release! I love these characters so much and love seeing the development over each book.

I was given a excerpt of this book through NetGalley and I fully intend to get my hands on the full version! The little snippet I read was full of intrigue and suspense and I have so many questions. I look forward to reading this!

I'm really excited to read the full version of this book! I loved the His Fair Assassin trilogy by Robin LaFevers, so I was happy to see a sequel duology announced! I like that it follows the same characters from the first trilogy while adding new characters to the mix.

I will say that before I read the full version of this, I think I'm going to want to re-read the first book in the duology, as I forgot some major details that made some things in this sampler more confusing, but I did enjoy what was in the sampler.

The file downloaded weirdly to my kindle, so some of the formatting was messed up. This made it a little more awkward to read but I definitely still enjoyed it.

Looking forward to the full book, and I've pre-ordered it!

I did not realize that this was the final book in a series so I was kinda confused for most of it but it was a good sample. The writing was very cool how it had hints of old English. I also really liked how it switched perspectives so we got to hear lots of different sides of the story. Nice story and I'm excited to read the series.

This sampler has made me so excited for this book! Plus, the cover is absolutely gorgeous so I can't wait to see it on my shelf along with the first one!

First of all, Robin LaFevers could rewrite the phonebook and I'd still be like, "This is AMAZING."

Second of all, Igniting Darkness is about to be one of my favourite books of 2020. I can feel it. And, honestly, after the year we've had, it is absolutely what we deserve. If you are a follower of my blog, Tik Tok, Instagram or Goodreads you likely know that this series is an all time favourite of mine. To say that my hopes are high for Igniting Darkness would be an understatement, but this little sampler has reignited (ha) my excitement.

It has also made me want so much more. So, I'm here, anticipating, and making grabby hands at my computer screen. Which, to be honest, is a little awkward.

Regardless, LaFevers writing is as fantastic and engrossing as ever. I look forward to read the finished product.

Ahhhhhhh this was just such a wonderful sneak peak and I just thoroughly enjoyed myself. I didn’t want to put this sample down. I just fell in love with this wonderful story. I will most definitely be reading the rest of the story when it becomes available.

I received this sampler from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly this sampler wasn't long enough for me. I adored the original trilogy and the first book in this duo logy so getting a small taste of the end is never enough. The author's writing remains exquisite and descriptive and the characters remain compelling and utterly human.

Overall I just need to know what happens to our two heroines.

I won't be reviewing this because I didn't realize it was a sampler. I left it on my Shelf without downloading, and then a friend said the full galley was available on Netgalley. I went to get the new version, and because I was previously approved for the sampler, it wouldn't let me request or download the new version.

I apologize for the mistake! I find it very hard to review partials, and don't like reading them, personally, either.

Igniting Darkness (#2 Courting Darkness Duology) – Robin LaFevere (sample only)

I was kindly given an advanced sample copy of this story by the publisher.

“Igniting Darkness” is the final book in the “Courting Darkness” duology set in Robin LaFevers “His Fair Assassin” world. I haven’t read the previous book in this duology nor have I written anything by Robin LaFevers in the past.

Genevieve has been deserted and left to fend for herself, or at least it seems to be that way for her. With no communication from the convent, she must decide for herself with the information she has to hand, what is best for France and Brittany, but most of all the convent. So, when she believes that is under threat, she does what she believes is best. But just as she has done what she thought was best to protect the convent, they finally send someone after all this time.

Sybella has finally managed to track down the list assassin from the convent, hiding at the court. But what has she done, what mess has she managed to get them all in…?

As Sybella tries to undo the damage that Genevieve’s well-intentioned actions have caused, as the lives of two young girls as well of all of those at the convent are now at stake. However, it soon becomes clear to Sybella that her own position is also under threat, possibly from the same source now threatening the convent.

Can Sybella and Genevieve save the convent and the lives of the two young girls and each other or will they fail at the end…

“Igniting Darkness” is a gripping fantasy story the likes of which I have not read in a long time. It was such an enjoyable read that I was loathe to put it down and just wanted to keep reading it but dreaded coming to the end. If you are after an amazing fantasy story, I would definitely make sure you pick this up and get reading!

After only the 100 pages of the sampler I'm excited about the duology.
I liked the fast pace, the politics and intrigue. The characters seem interesting, likable and strong women.
I'm really looking forward to the read the entire book, as well as the first book of the duology.

This book was received as an ARC from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children's Book Group - HMH Books for Young Readers in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

The entire series was such a thrill that I could not wait for igniting darkness to be released. I would not recommend however reading this book with reading courting darkness due to a series of events that correlate with courting darkness and it will seem confusing to someone reading this book first. The suspense level of this book is out of bounds and for the first time ever, this book made my palms sweat. This potentially will be a candidate for a future book in our teen book club.

We will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I adored Courting Darkness and this sample of the next book is making me so excited! Getting to see the characters where we left off is a sign that I’m going to love this next book. I can’t wait to read the full thing on the release date!

Well, this SAMPLER certainly ignited my interest! 💥 ❤️

Once more the continuing fight for fifteenth century Brittany's freedom from the rule of France flares into action in this cutting edge historical fantasy. Of course now that's translated into keeping Queen Anne of Brittany safe in King Henry's court. Those keepers are assassins in service to Mortain--the God of Death.
There's discord and unsanctioned actions in Henry's court, including one surmises, the King's sister, one of his most influential advisors. And then there's the Church, that it's hinted at, would like to abolish Brittany's freedom to acknowledge other gods--the Nine. As the queen at one stage states to the King's Bishops, "they have fallen out of fashion in France.”
Nestled in the midst of this fight is Genevieve the acolyte who was one of two young maids inserted deep undercover into Henry's court by the abbess of Saint Mortain Convent years ago. And even this was a slight of hand.
Beast and Aeva have escaped with Lady Sybella's young sisters but pursuit is close behind.
It's now up to Genevieve and Sybella to guard the queen even as they come under fire from the King and others. The situation is becoming more complex and tricky, especially as the King is now aware of who Sybella and Genecieve are.
I was only a couple of chapters in and am already completely hooked, eagerly awaiting the full novel, even as I and the book inhabitants' wonder just what is the end game?
