Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This manga had such an unusual premise that I had to pick it up purely based on the plot alone. And I wasn't disappointed. It starts with the classic "manga about a manga artist" with the caveat that our main character is a lewd manga artist trying desperately to hide his occupation from his young daughter.

The result is a hilarious, light-hearted, and often time absurd slice of life, filled with emotive and wonderfully zany characters. The art style is simple but cute and very effective for the story it is telling. We get to see Kakushi Goto simultaneously heap praise and love on his daughter whilst desperately trying to hide his "dirty little secret" from her in the hope that she will have a normal childhood. The exasperation of his fellow co-workers. And his adorable yet oblivious daughter, who comes hair-raisingly close to stumbling across her fathers secret a number of times.

The lengths he will go to are often comical, but despite the context of the manga, never run the risk of seeming obscene. In fact, despite the subject matter this book is light-hearted and always tongue in cheek.
The book is also interspersed with commentaries by the author which are almost informative as well as humorous, and I felt helped really tie the story together.

I've become very jaded with manga over time as I have found that it's either heavy on the fan service or the same cut and paste shōnen plots time and time again, but this is one of those stories that is refreshing in its difference without seeming elitist or taking itself to seriously. Definitely a laid back, easy going manga to while the time away.
