This was an interesting book, even for a beginner like myself. I didn't know much about Ayurveda, so I was happy to get this ARC. However, it's not great in kindle format - the charts are not conducive to that format. However, I did like the information that I got.

Several of our readers are interested in ayurveda so I was glad to have the opportunity to read this. A good basic introduction for laypeople.

Absolutely loved this book - short and on point! Bonus recipies are very useful and yummy (only managed to do couple of them) and going to try more. Advise is simple to follow and based on Aryuveda foundational knowledge. Did you want to start Aryuved - get this book and you won't regret it.

Book Title: Ayurveda For Modern Life

Author: Emine Rushton

Genre: Self – Help

Published Date: 9 June  2020

Line Summary:

Ayurveda expert Eminé Rushton pinpoints why it is that modern life takes such a toll on our health, and talks honestly and realistically about how to transform our wellbeing, without pain, confusion or guilt.

My Review:

As I lot of beginners book on Ayurveda, I expected something extra on this but this book is also for beginners! But I liked it. It’s covered all the topics necessary for beginners. Quiet easy to read and follow and definitely much simpler to understand the basic principles. The narration could have been much interesting. It’s kind of boring at places with some repetitive notions. My favorite part was the recipes. They are so good .simple yet delicious healthy recipes. For the recipes alone I would recommend this book.

I really enjoyed "Auruvedaya for Modern Life". It is a great book for those new to Auruvedaya and the practice of it. It will show you how to tell which Dosha type you are, as well as what that means, and how to incorporate that to be a healthier you. This is a wonderful book to introduce you to the practice of Auruvedaya.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.

An excellent introduction to the Ayurveda way of eating. It's a subject I knew nothing of, but wanted to learn more and this accessible guide is perfect. The author gives an insight into her practise and daily diet alongside explanations that are neither patronising nor too involved for the novice. Explaining the concept of 'dosha' and the implications for choosing food in proportions that suit our bodies the guide is never rigid, much more sensible to accommodate 'real life' and never patronising.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. It's well written, comprehensive and covers a great deal of topics and answers. It's given me a much better and more in depth understanding of Ayurveda and its application and benefits when applying to the modern world. Ayurveda is a lifestyle choice and one that truly needs to be more widely appreciated and understood. Thank you for enlightening us.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Watkins Publishing for providing me for a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

I think this is a very nice introduction to Ayurveda, and a beginner will find it very helpful. It goes over what Ayurveda is, covers the three Dosha types, and how to determine which you are, and how to tailor your eating to align with it to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

The book is loaded with charts to help choose foods suitable for your Dosha, and to help decide which should be combined with what. In the digital copy I received, some of them were a little difficult to read, but they were extensive.

There were quite a few recipes provided to get you started with your Ayurvedic eating program, many of them suitable for all Dosha types, which was helpful.

One of the highlights of the book was a three day Ayurvedic Immersion program, with a suggested schedule and menu, designed to help you transition into the eating program, but also as a mild detox. It was almost a mini spa vacation at home.

The one area that I would have liked to see some enhancement is the area on determining your Dosha type. This is an area where people feel a lot of uncertainty and tend to second guess themselves, so I would have liked to have seen a little further assistance.

I found the book to be enjoyable and informative and would definitely recommend it to someone seeking a beginner level Ayurveda book, or even someone who was looking into a more holistic diet or lifestyle.

I practise ayurbedic eating and have done for some months now. I already knew my dosha but this book gave me a good starting block on how to incorporate my new lifestyle into my old busy and erratic one. It helps to bring the two together and find a good balance between them. All the while teaching you new things about your dosha. Great for anyone starting out or wanting more information on doshas and balancing yourself.

This books serves as a good introduction to the topic of Ayurveda. The focus on baby steps to see how the system works for the reader as an individual is partially refreshing in a landscape of these books typically handing out rigid rules that overwhelm ones first steps.

The writer sharing bits of their own life kept the text relatable throughout and did not overshadow what they were writing about. That said in the kindle format provided by my arc copy I was unable to fully appreciate the provided charts and believe it may work better for those reading physical copies.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

I requested this book because, for whatever reason, I am suddenly into this ancient healing practice again. I go back and forth because I find it so interesting but it is very hard to see myself actually doing what you need to do in order to stay healthy. But the good thing about self care books is that you can do as much of it or as little of it as you want. I fully believe that the body is capable of healing itself before Western medicine needs to become involved. So...I keep coming back to this :) This book focused on why and how to incorporate Ayurvedic eating into your current lifestyle, which is where you need to start in order to become healthy. First you have to figure out which Dosha you are and then you take the advice and you eat like you should, don't exercise at certain times or even do certain exercise only. I am a Pitta Dosha according to every test I have ever taken and so my goal will be to not let that get too out of balance. I did enjoy this book and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in Ayurvedic Medicine

I liked reading the galley of this book because it focused on why and how to incorporate Ayurvedic eating into my current lifestyle. Rushton provided enough of what a person needs to know to get started eating this way rather than spending too much time on the history and spiritual aspects of food as the books on the subject I’ve tried reading before have done. Rather than making huge claims about what Ayurveda will do for those who practice it; she presented some of the basic benefits, told her story and encouraged readers to try small changes in their own eating habits at first and to observe the changes they see in the way they feel. She covered the doshas based on the physical and emotional characters of eaters, as well as the three tapas, (qualities of foods) and the seven tastes of food, and how to put them together. The fact that she made suggestions rather than establishing rigid rules, and encouraged taking baby steps rather than doing a radical overhaul made Ayurveda seem very relevant and doable. She included about 60 pages of recipes at the end, many of which were good for all dosha types. Her cardamom chia spice breakfast porridge was wonderful as was her millet and pear porridge. I marked several curry recipes to try and one for a slaw. By the time I finished the book I was eager to experiment with this new (for me) way of eating.

This is helpful depending on what you're seeking. These kinds of the approaches can be a lot of work, so be prepared for that; and it can be a little complicated. If you know a little about Ayurveda, you may not pick-up a lot from this, but it's a decent intro.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

There were too many charts and it was hard to read it in kindle format but a lot of good advice. The good thing with self care books is that you can use as much or as little of the advice as you want. Well written and the other uses a lot of her own background and experiences, but not the best book for self help. Great explanation for what Ayurveda is and is not. Very precise.

Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Could not tell which body type i was due to layout of chart on kindle I even tried it landscape but descriptions underneath descriptions and could not tell which body type belonged to which description. Too much offloading of the authors seemingly hectic life for me.
