Stroke of luck was HOT. From the first chapter you were sucked in. April waking up to 2 hot naked men that were not her fiancé. It had you automatically thinking, what happened last night? This book has you feeling all types of ways. I feel like it’s a second chance romance twisted with love at first site, since it is MFM ;)

So like I stated above, in my copy the female character’s name was April and she had a great explanation where her name originated from. Your wedding is one of the biggest days in any girl’s life. So when April should have been happy and having the time of her life, she found the person she thought loved her, cheating on her. Her heart was broken and knew she could not stay with him. After breaking things off, he left Vegas and left her with a bill a mile long that she could not afford, because of course he canceled all her cards and cleared all their accounts.

Quinn has never once stopped thinking about the girl that got away. The one he thought was “THE ONE”. No other girl has ever made him feel how April did. But he had to find a way to move on because she left him for another man. He put all his focus on his studies and now his work. He had worked hard to get to where he was and he deserved this vacation. What he didn’t expect though was for his world was turned upside down on his vacation when he saw the most beautiful woman sitting in the hall of the hotel he was vacationing at. Could it really be her, the girl that broke his heart in college? She looked broken and Quinn knew he had to do something to help her and could not leave her.

Austin was Quinn’s business partner and best friend. Quinn had a brilliant idea for a business and Quinn had the capital to make that happen, so for many years they worked night and day, side by side and it was time for a vacation. Gambling, drinking and having a little free time sounded amazing, so they headed off to Vegas. Austin knew about the girl in college that stole Quinn’s heart, what he didn’t know was that she would steal his too. She was amazing, always held her head high even though she was going through so much, beautiful and had the biggest heart. But he had to stay back, he would never over step, because even though Quinn denies it, he still loves her and she still loves Quinn too and Austin loves them both to do that. He would do anything to help his best friend.

April was now basically on the streets with no money or a place to stay, so when Quinn stepped in, paid the bill her ex had left her with, move her to his room and helped her out. Austin did have to do it, he did even know her, but he did the same, covering her bill when they ate and buying her things while she stayed with them. But she needed to pay Quinn back anyway she could, because she didn’t have that type of money right now, so the only way she could pay him back was giving him something he has always longed for, her. So April made a proposal and told him she would be his lover for a month and Quinn was so happy but what would make it even better for him was not just be his lover but also to Austin at the same time, which turned Quinn on so much. Would Austin agree?

This book was really good, but I gave it 4 stars because there were times where the POV switch and it didn’t tell you and you were kind of thrown off. I loved Austin and Quinn and all they wanted to do was take care of April. She was the most important person for both of them. But could they turn this proposal of 1 month to much more and a life time together? Could Quinn move passed what had happened in the past? I received this ARC from NetGalley for my honest review and opinion.

The story seemed to be missing pieces, it was jumpy. There would be a story line going on and then it would jump to something completely different.

It took me over four months to get through this book and in hindsight I should have DNFed it early on, but I don’t like not finishing books, especially review copies. I also don’t like leaving negative reviews, so I’ll try to keep this fairly brief.

I’ve heard good things about Opal Carew so I was looking forward to this but it was just… not good. I don’t know if her writing style has changed recently, but this felt like a very early unedited first rough draft of a story.

None of the characters have any personality whatsoever, the female MC in particular is a total doormat, and the love interests aren’t likeable. The villain is an over-the-top jackass and the conflict with him is resolved way too easily (goes back to my point about the MC being a doormat – not at all what we want from our heroines in 2020).

The writing felt very basic and juvenile, and the sex scenes lacked steam and were underwhelming and unoriginal. I can forgive a weak plot in erotica if the actual erotica makes up for it, but this did not.

Aside from this, the formatting made this almost completely unreadable: there were section breaks in the middle of a conversation with no POV change, and then the POV would suddenly change in the middle of a paragraph. The author would drop us in in the middle of a scene with no explanation of what was going on, often referring to "he" as if we were supposed to know who she was talking about. It felt like sections were just missing and it was all very confusing and completely took away any enjoyment I might have gotten out of the incredibly lackluster story.

Admittedly I did read a galley so hopefully some of these issues will get fixed, but honestly unless this goes through some very heavy editing before its release, I recommend skipping this one.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I did not like this at all. I think this falls in the category of mine I like to call "roll your eyes erotica". It's not erotic. It's not romantic. I found the story to be ridiculous. I'm sure there are going to be people out there that might love this book. I'm not one of them. It was a struggle to get through and I wish I could get my time back.

I don't like leaving reviews like this, but I can not recommend this the way it is.

Stroke of Luck is about April who finds her fiancé has cheated on her the day before her wedding. He ruins her life since he has control over all aspects of her life. She happens to meet Quinn, her former flame and he helps her out. He along with his business partner and best friend Austin, form a relationship of sorts that’s mutually beneficial.
There’s a lot of sex, which is pretty hot, and the story is pretty good. She marries both men, but is really mostly with Quinn. I feel like Austin should have felt more included in the relationship. April was also kind of a wilting flower through most of this, and didn’t really find her self until the end. I like stronger women in stories and she just didn’t do it for me.
I received an arc from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

This book was my first by Opal Carew and I truly enjoyed it. The plot was a bit on the faster side but it had been a very welcomed steaming hot ride. April has been shy all her life and because of her past,  she wants just one....to be loved and cared for. When she thought she´s found her HEA and finally could get married, she has caught him cheating on their wedding date. Not only was the wedding off but because of his big ego, he left her humiliated and with a load of debt. Right at the worst moment of her life Quinn - her college sweetheart walks into the mess and takes over her debts. She has never expected to see him again after things were left, yet here he was being her hero. They made an arrangement...she would be his for the next month. What she hasn´t expected was to get into ménage à trois and fall in love with Quinn and his best friend. But because of her past, she wants to stay independent and doesn´t want to be seen as a golddigger. Can all of them meet their expectations and build trust again?

I really enjoyed this book. I would love to read a book strictly about their past together as well. Having snippets is nice but The full story would be a good one. Moving a past relationship with two people to a menage is always s a tricky thing to do since the 2 people have that history and that connection. But I think that Austin was a good buffer between the two. It would have been a great twist if Austin and Quinn were in a relationship together and never thought about adding a female till April came along. Always love Opal's writing and will always be a fan of hers!

This was my first erotic romance I have read and I loved it! I thought it had a nice story to it and wasn't over the top. I would read from this author again.

Good for a quick, dirty read. The author throws everything she can at Riana/April (I read an April version) to ensure she has no option available besides Quinn and Austin. I hope the plot and formatting issues are resolved by the time the book goes to press.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Stroke of Luck is my first book by Opal Carew. We meet April, whose fiance has left her at the altar and with an astronomical hotel bill. By luck, her ex-boyfriend and now multi-millionaire passes her by in the hallway, and April's luck changes. Totally realistic, right?
This is not a bad story, but I was hoping for something with a little more character development and variety. The characters are two dimensional, and I think both April and Quinn could have had a lot more depth, which would have made the story and their reunion and sex much more meaningful. The sex scenes were pretty hot but quite repetitive, even in vocabulary - I think even these could have been used to develop the characters, their feelings, and their changing relationship. I try to keep my expectations lower when reading erotica, so this one isn't bad, but it isn't amazing. I did love the Vegas setting.
2.5 stars rounded up to 3.

2 stars

I've seen Opal Carew's name around for ages but I had never picked up one of her titles for myself. I saw this come up on NetGalley and thought it looked like a sexy summer read. It certainly was a sexy read, there is no doubt about that. But sadly, it was little more than that. I found it to be filled with tropes and April the lead character was spineless, aimless and helpless. She lacked any sort of personality at all. It started to really bother me that she had no friends, no family and was at the whims of every male character she came across. I could have really enjoyed this story more if the character was able to stand up for herself and pull herself out of a back situation. The novel was aptly named because she really did get all of her breaks in life due to a stroke of luck.

I requested this one because I had heard really great things about Opal Carew's books in the past, but this unfortunately didn't really do it for me. I didn't like the writing style OR the characters.

Wow! Just wow! This book has it all....drama, angst, a little revenge, love and sex! Lots of hot hot sex! Ms. Carew keeps us entertained and engaged.

This book is Hot! Things are always better with three ! I loved the story line along with all the action . You think that what you read couldn’t get any better but then you keep reading and woozier is all I can say. I generally hate for a book to end but loved the ending .

I have read and loved Opal Carew in the past, but this one just didn't work for me. I'm hoping that my biggest problem is just a formatting error in this ARC version that will be corrected before hitting shelves. There were [chapter and section] breaks in places that seemed odd, then about half way through the book, there started being no breaks where the should have been. As far as the story goes, I just found that things weren't believable, even for fiction. The feelings of the characters, the reasons they did or reacted to certain events, the time flow of the story, they all just didn't work for me.

Stroke of Luck
By: Opal Carew
2.8 / 5.0

This book was mainly just dialogue. It was a book full of passion and lust, but that’s about it. There was no character building or feeling any kind of emotions for the characters. It was just all about their physical attraction to one another. The focus on just their lust for each other made the characters seem a little sex obsessed. It had a lot of potential to show the inside look of a throple (three person couple). Half way through the reading I realized I didn’t care about the characters and that if it didn’t pan out for them then oh well.
I didn’t like the constant page breaks that I thought weren’t needed. The whole book could have been in the third person with no page breaks. There was no need to have her point of view (but still in third person) and then his point of view (in the third person) and then back to hers in the span of a few pages. The book, also, made it seem like everything was happening in the span of a few days, but a little over a month had passed. I would have enjoyed the book more if it had added more depth to the characters and their backstory.

I think I wanted to like this more than I did. But still it was a fun quick read with great characters and just the right amount of drama.

The story centers around a woman who is in Las Vegas and cancelled the wedding because of her fiances fooling around with a maid.
She is humiliated by her fiance for cancelling the wedding and then runs into her former boyfriend Quinn and his partner Austin.

The overall structure of the novel is very lame. The characters are uninterested. And the sex is nothing to make one aroused.

I'm not usually a reader of erotica but I figured I'd branch out a bit. Overall this was pretty satisfying though definitely some of the usual flowery descriptions of body parts that get old very quickly. But it was fun and an interesting plot line in between all the sex.

Thanks NetGalley for this ARC, I'm not usually a fan of erotica, but requested the book for the cover and description and for a bit of a change to my usual reads.
this had a good and believable story line, many sex scenes, good chemistry between characters
Enjoyed the read as the relationship between characters developed
April was supposed to be married, she caught her fiancee (making love) to another woman on the day before their wedding day, obviously she calls off the wedding and now he wants everything back, leaving her with nothing. She runs into an old boyfriend and things heat up from there.
A good read if you are looking for some hot sex scenes
