This was a good start to what’s obviously going to be a pretty epic space opera. Humans have begun spreading across the galaxy and have multiple colonies. While there have been a couple of artifacts discovered humans appear to be alone at first but sadly for humanity this is not the case. It’s a very long book but the pace keeps moving with the action dividing the book nicely into several shorter sections.
The author has also improved greatly in quality since his fantasy trilogy. Don’t get me me wrong. I liked his first efforts and had fun reading them but there was a bit too much in them that was derivative in the fantasy trilogy because of his youth and inexperience. And those were still much better reads than most adults could hope to manage writing! That’s gone in this book. I look forward to seeing where he takes it next!

I just finished this partial galley and was really impressed with its quality. I loved every second of it and now I'm desperate for the fully galley in order to finish this amazing story. Paolini has definitely improved as an author and I'm proud of what's he's accomplished here so far in the story. I'm loving how much research he's seemed to put into this story. Kira is a great character so far and I'm very curious to see her modifications in work.

I saw that Paolini had written a new book so I jumped at the chance to try the excerpt. This is very different than his prior series but enjoyable. I think I prefer the fantasy genre over straight Sci-Fi, although the character of Kira, who is a biologist is quite engaging. With this intro to the book, I am looking forward to the final result! Its going to be a challenge to wait.
I am anticipating this being as good going forward as it has been so far.

I wasn't really sold at the beginning, but this is a big book so a bit of lead-up is certainly required. Based on what I've read so far, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is going to be: cinematic, descriptive, and full of crazy alien stuff. I'm absolutely here for it. In this short span of pages, we already have a conflict, a strong sense of Kira's character, and crazy alien stuff. Plus, the science portion feels smart and not just glossed over, which I certainly appreciate.

The romantic scenes were a little awkward, but they were short and served to further develop Kira's character, which I know is going to be important going forward.

By the time I reached the end of the excerpt, I was not ready for it to be over. Props to whoever decided to end it there because now I want to throw my TBR out the window and read the rest.

I got a duplicate copy. Wow this is a spectacular book!!! I couldn't put it down but didn't want it to end. Kira Navarez, a xenobiologist exploring a far distant planet falls into an ancient artifact (craft) and makes 1st contact with an alien lifeform that changes her entire being. She is taken over by a form fitting bodysuit-like life form and develops frightening and exciting capabilities that lead her on a journey to save the universe. The xeno takes over her body and she must learn to control it. It was created by an ancient race , now extinct whose technologies have been borrowed by a lifeform that come to be know as the Jellies, who are invading Human occupied space in search of the xeno. The characterizations and plot are incredible. The crew of the Wallfish who become Kira's friends and fellow warriors are inspiring .You will be cheering them on every step of the way.
There is no way to describe this book other than epic and must read!

Thanks to NetGalley for teaser ARC of the first part of the book. I have never been into science fiction per se so much as fantasy, but it was Paolini and the cover is beautiful, so I thought I would give it a try. This was probably not the greatest choice for me to try to convince myself that I am a science fiction book nerd. I have a hard time imagining places not of Earth, and to top it off, this felt somewhat soapy by way of Days of Our Lives or something like that but also dreadfully slow at times, a little heavy-handed on the word count for little substance and what substance there was felt flat.
I hate to leave such a negative review for a book I have not completed, but there it is.

I really enjoyed my time reading this partial galley. I really enjoy the main character and the writing style of this story. I grew up with Eragon so it's interesting to see Christopher Paolini kind of branch out from Middle Grade/YA and really go into another direction. A ton of YA authors have been doing it lately (Leigh Bardugo, Sarah J. Maas, Veronica Roth), and I think it's really cool to see how they are able to write in a ton of different categories.

I am extremely excited to read the full version of this novel as soon as I can! I am a huge sci-fi/space opera fan and I think this will be right up my alley.

The start of this sci-fi series from a fantasy powerhouse takes off in the right direction. Kira and her new found mate are clearly heading for a grand adventure, and I found myself trying to turn the page to found out where they were going.

Loved it, great characters interesting plot. Different enough to make it interesting and yet be easy to follow. Looking forward to reading more in this series and from this Author.

An excellent beginning to a new novel by one of my favorite fantasy authors. Intense sequences and immediate jump into action on this fast paced space adventure. I could do without the cursing, though. Just a personal preference.

This sampler of the book just got me so hooked. I'm usually not a fan of "horror" like things but here the mystery is too intriguing to resist!
The characters sound great too and I can't wait to read more!

I am not a big sci-fi novel fan, but decided to pick this up because I really liked to eragon series. I only read partial book since this was a preview offer so I am unsure of whether my feedback on this book will change or not. But so far, what I read was well-written and interesting. It has interesting beginning to bring readers into the story, the characters are developing well, and action and suspense. But still, the story is somewhat what I would expect from a typical sci-fi book. That does not mean it is bad, just not a story I could call extremely original and exciting.

The author Christopher Paolini is a popular writer in the science fiction world. I’ve decided to read more in this genre, so I thought this book would be a good place to start. And it was!

The story takes place several hundred years in the future. It is now possible to travel faster than the speed of light, so human colonies have been established across many galaxies. Kira is the main character. When the story begins, she is a scientist working for a company that scouts planets and moons in preparation for new colonies. Her team which includes her boyfriend are finishing this job and will be traveling to a new place, somewhere in the far-flung heavens. Kira and her boyfriend decide to get married; their future looks bright…until…

…an organism appears and wreaks havoc on Kara and her team. Are there intelligent aliens trying to take over?? The thrills and excitement begin and speed us to the moment when the fate of the human world rests on Kira. Is Kira more than a scientific geek? Is she more than a human?

I liked that this book quickly got to the romance and then the exciting parts, with a minimum of world building or intricate tech. The plot is swift and easy to understand. Kira is an appealing character and I wish her well. I don’t know how the story ends, because this was a partial advance galley. Looking forward to the publication of this book!

Thanks to Macmillan Tor-Forge for a digital advance review copy. This is my honest review.

This new novel from author Christopher Paolini has best seller written all over it!

Immersive and persistently riveting I look forward to discovering along with the lead character Kira the intriguing mystery surrounding the ancient alien artifact? life form? She’s found while surveying the moon Adrasteia.

I was fortunate in receiving a partial preview of the novel through Net Galley, and eagerly wait to continue along with the unfolding developments upon full publication.

A full review will be published at that time.

Thank you @Netgalley for the advanced readers' edition of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Chris Paolini! Here is my honest review....

I am aghast that I have to wait till September to finish this read. I hadn't realized when I placed the request with NetGalley that it was for the first 25% of the book! OOOOOOOO but that 25% was damn near perfection! I was completely surprised at just how INTO this book I was (am). It has everything I look for in a SciFi book, intrigue, humanity, internal struggle, realism. I couldn't put it down, and when my kindle hit 100% and I realized the story was nowhere near over I was mortified, as a matter of fact, I'm still shook!

So anyway, if you like books with a reluctant heroine forced into tough situations that has a heart of gold, if you like your Scifi with epic journeys through the stars and distant inhabitable planets, and if you like your journey to include sentient armor and an advanced race of squid-like aliens trying to steal it... Well then you've met your match.

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced excerpt of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini.

This is my first experience that I get to have with Paolinis writing and I must say that I WANT more!

The story is so cool and such an interesting premise that it had me hooked and when reaching the end of the bit I was given it made me oh so anxious to get my hands on the rest of the book. I am a sucker for a good Sci-Fi and this is right up that alley. So me and Paolini should get along just fine. Counting down the days until I can finish this excellent story!

This was only a partial ARC, but I love what I've read so far! Kira loves being a space explorer, and is fascinated with the possible existence of aliens and their civilizations. She'd love to find an artifact showing they exist and make contact. However, when she finds a relic, disaster strikes, and she finds herself in a symbiotic relationship with an alien. Many of her friends and colleagues have been killed, and she is alone, trying to make it back to the nearest base and find out more about both the alien that is bonded with her body, and the ones trying to kill them both.

Honestly, everything Christopher does is fantastic. This was a great sampler and I can't wait to read the entire book!

This is another home run for Christopher Paolini! To Sleep in a Sea of Stars feels like classic sci-fi thriller. Kira is a likable protagonist, who is forced into a fight for her life after a mission goes bad. I'm hooked this is the first book that I preordered months in advance if I preorder it just a few weeks at most.
