This is an absolute page-turner! I loved the illustration and the artwork a lot! The story was fantastic in my opinion! It was super interesting and I just could not put this down! A must read!

This book was my introduction to a series I absolutely love. Something Is Killing the Children definitely isn't a graphic novel for the faint of heart with it's pretty graphic depictions of supernatural & paranormal violence, fear, and monsters killing people. However, I still recommend it if you're into the monster of the week type supernatural tv shows and such. This would be an entirely awesome premise for a tv show in my opinion. The side characters are interesting, and have their own personalities and stories that definitely draw you in, but the main character, Erica, who really shines. With her mysterious past and the information we're slowly introduced to regarding it, and the House of Slaughter, this story does tension and mystery really well to add to that feeling of the spooktacular. And I have to add that the illustration is phenomenal. The colors used really sell that spooky horror vibe, and are somehow still beautiful. So, yeah, if you're looking for a graphic novel for the spooky months? This is it. Though definitely check the content warnings, folks.

I enoyed this read quite a bit. It's a compelling story with really nice illustrations. I'd love to know where we go from here. One day, I'll find out.

Really enjoyed this a lot. If you're into graphic novels and horror elements, then you will enjoy this book.

This was the Eisner award winner for best new series in 2020 and it deserves it. This is a horror, graphic novel about a town where children are missing or showing up as bloody body parts. Something or someone has devoured them and left the entrails. One kid survived, and now everyone thinks he’s to blame. James used to have nightmares and would tell his friends about them until his life became a nightmare. Erica Slaughter just pulled into town. She is all pissed off and grumpy business. She knows what’s going on in town and she is there to bring it down. This book was a horrifically good time. But volume two and three will be critical as there are so many unanswered questions. Questions like what is up with the octopus? Who all those people sitting around the table with a glint in the light? Will James survive? And what the hell will Tommy do now that he can “see”. I’m telling you right now if you read this book, have book 2 and three on hold, the wait is going to kill me.

This is definitely the beginning of a great series. The artwork is creepy and dark. James Tynion has created an amazing world of monsters and the people who try to save us from them.

Absolutely love this series. I was hooked from the very beginning and have read the other volumes s well. I will always recommend this series for graphic novel lovers.

One of the best graphic novels I've read in a while. It has everything, monsters, cults, and a kick ass hero. The illustrations are vivid and enlightening. It was so good I wish there was another story to tell in this world.

I wanted to like this more than I did; this is the second time I've come out of a James Tynion collection loving the synopsis but not enjoying the actual read through.

The concept is intriguing, but the exocution leaves quite a bit to be desired. I flew through the volume which is usually a good sign, but by the end was left wondering why through the five issues this graphic novel contains we didn't get anything to give the characters actual character, and we didn't get any answers (or even questions introduced) as to why these monsters are there, where they came from, etc.

In addition to that, I wasn't a fan of the art style. The character designs were decent, but all of the fight scenes seemed blurry which made it hard to make out what exactly was happening. When a core point of the story is fighting monsters, that can quickly become frustrating.

I've ranted on it quite a bit, but can see why a lot of people seem to enjoy it. It's a bit reminiscent of Stranger Things (centers around kids, monsters, a small town being ravaged), so you may want to give it a go if that's your thing. This was only volume one, so it's entirely possible that a lot of these negatives improve with the next installment, but this collection in and of itself isn't something I would recommend broadly.

I may eventually pick up the second volume just to see if it adds more depth to the story, but my expectations will be low.

I love everything about this book. I love the monsters. I love Erica. I love the character designs. I even love the douchy big brother that thinks he knows everything only to get in the way of the person who does know everything. The monster designs are interesting. The dialogue is snappy. The implication of a bigger conspiracy is fascinating. This is a fast-paced and beautiful book of horror, where children get ripped apart while the parents aren't looking, and only a white-haired, giant green eyed woman is going to save this town.

I've recommended and included this book and the second volume for a book club already. Everyone loved it.

This is one of the best comic books I’ve read in the last five years. I cannot recommend it enough. I’m going to read volume two tonight. If you are a horror fan then this will be right up your alley.

While horror is not normally a genre I gravitate towards, I kept hearing about this and decided to request it. It did not disappoint! Definitely set the spooky atmosphere going into October. The art style was so beautiful and haunting and there was so much tension, something that is hard to do sometimes with graphic novels.

This was such a good comic and I loved the colouring! I really loved how the author is starting to piece together the mystery of the missing children and I’ll definitely be continuing the series soon, but oh boy, definitely don’t read this around kids because it freaks them out!

I didn't get a chance to review this prior to its publication. This graphic novel was surprisingly good, albeit gory, read. The artwork is vibrant and dark and nightmarish and it was quite action-packed - perfect for readers who love a good monster-hunter story.

I didn't get the chance to review this one before it came out. But I recently picked it up and really enjoyed this one. The art style and colours used in this graphic novel are gorgeous and this offered all the spooky and atmospheric vibes.

Nine children are found brutally murdered, and even more are missing. A strange woman with large green eyes and a stuffed octopus arrives in the town, is she their savior or a murderer. Fans of Stranger Things will love this book. The story moves quickly, and it’s dark and fearless enough to appeal to adults. I’m anxious to read volume 2!

This is a fun graphic novel that is good for people who like colorful illustrations and monster-hunting narratives. I won't say that it was groundbreaking or super original, but it was still a quick, action-packed read that kept me entertained during quarantine. I am going to continue reading the series, and I really hope we get more of Erica's backstory.
