This is my favorite kind of book. One that pulls you in from the first page. What starts as en email to a food network (not the Food Network) competition show telling us the history of two feuding sisters and their dueling fried chicken shacks lands us smack dab in the middle of a feud between two contemporary sisters. Each hoping for something more than just being declared the winner of Best Chicken Shack. In the process old wounds are open, family secrets are revealed, but in the end family comes together to win more than just a reality tv show.

All the characters are relatable. You know these two sister. Amanda is probably more like some of us than we realizing. Hoping for that “thing” that will move her out of the situation she’s in. She’s wants something more, she’s just afraid to admit it. Sister Mae is that woman we all know who lives her life on social media. Measuring her value in likes. When her world is upended she runs back to the hometown she ran away from hoping for a fresh start.

Filled with fun and interesting supporting characters I was happy I spent time with the chicken sisters. Without giving too much away if you enjoy an uplifting family story this book is for you.

I really enjoyed this author’s style. My hope now is there’s a prequel story about the original chicken sisters.

Thank you to Netgally and Edelweiss for an early review copy.
