The joy of the adventure is simply spending time together. We must not discount an adventure because it is small. Instead, we need to recognize that the act of being together, no matter the place or activity, is what really creates bonds that last.”

This is such a good book. It keeps you thinking, has great ideas and stories. It’s so relatable, no matter your season of life (little kids or older, able to get out & about or not as much). I’m enjoyed it a lot. I recommend reading it!

As parents, we desire to connect with our kids and make significant memories throughout their lifetime but for those who may not have been raised on adventure, it can be hard to know where to start. Greta Eskridge has created an adventure manual for parents who want to strengthen the connection they have with their kids.

She opens the book with a nudge to get started. Don't wait for children to get older, the author offers great ideas for all ages. Her wise words will help parents get started in small ways and she offers tips from her own years of adventuring. Parents are encouraged to start small and just do something!

The author shares the experiences she had with her own kids (sometimes solo, sometimes with her husband, and sometimes with other moms and kids). Readers will come away with oodles of ideas for exploring nature, appreciating art, trying new things, or simply enjoying adventures through the magic of reading.

The book concludes with information and tips for starting an adventure club with other families, how to hike with kids, making the most of a museum trip, and the nuts and bolts of starting a book club. Adventuring Together offers a fabulous array of adventures for families to try. I loved Eskridge's enthusiasm for making memories with her kids as well as her honesty in sharing some of the trips that didn't go according to plan but still offered great bonding and memories.

This book would make a great gift for any family with children. The book will encourage them to make the most of every day by finding ways to pursue adventure as a family.

Connecting in this over-connected culture can be a feat, even with those who live with us. The author draws from inspiring, personal anecdotes to help her readers discover ways you can connect well with those in your family. Through experience-based connections, she shows how we can draw closer to those we love, helping to develop life-long friendships with our children.

I made it a bit through this before it was archived and I was really enjoying it! I quickly DNF parenting books that seem unauthentic but this one seemed really great.

Adventuring Together inspires parents, but mostly moms, to go adventuring with their kids. And it really did inspire me!

Greta gives examples of stepping out of your comfort zone and stretching yourself and your kids to grow personally and together. The whole idea is to form deeper bonds with your family and do interesting things together. Those things could be museum visits or backpacking trips, backyard campfires or long drives early in the morning to see a rocket launch.

I appreciate how she points out that doing the trip together and learning to deal with issues that arise, both literally taking care of the issues and managing the emotions that come up because of those unexpected issues, are the whole point and not to just mark off a bucket list of adventures.

I felt that the book could have been more inclusive in its wording and perspective. It was overly religious and did not indicate in the description that it would be. Moms were the main focus of the adventuring and that was disappointing because it left out all other caretakers of children. If this was a book specifically for moms adventuring with their kids, it would have been appropriate to address that in the description. Other than adding information about those perspectives being a large part of the book to the description, more inclusive language could have been used to make the book less cringe-worthy to those of another or no faith. And maybe some research about and attention given to dads, grandparents, and other caregivers, primary or otherwise, would be nice.

The amount of overtly Christian thinking and ideas were off-putting and made an otherwise easy read, hard to get through.

This was a lovely book! In these times when it feels like "normal" things to do with your kids are off limits or more challenging, this book encouraged me to look for adventure in new places. It's equal parts personal stories and practical tips to make adventuring with your family, no matter the ages of your kids, feel more doable. I liked this book!

I loved this book from start to finish. I really have a hard time connecting with my kids sometimes and trying to come up with new things to do. This book was amazing and I highly suggest it to all parents who are trying to connect with their children on a deeper and more personal level.

One thing I loved about the book is there are ideas for everyone! Literally everyone! Even if you don't have the finances to go do some elaborate camping trip, or vacation, they give ideas for all sorts of situations. I love that the most, because when we were newly married and up until about 2 years ago, we didn't have the money to even afford slurps and hotdogs as a treat. We barely could keep the lights on and I always felt like I was an inadequate parent for that.

Let this book encourage you and give you the lift that your tired, parenting heart needs.

This book is so inspiring!

I am a type A homeschooling momma who has to plan everything out. I often fall into the trap of not having the opportunity to do something because I never got it ready 100% like I wanted. Whether it be an experiment, a new class, or a fun activity for the kiddos. With 4 kids that are 6 and under, this happens much more than I would like to admit. Greta helped remind me that it is okay to share these experiences with them even if they are not completely planned or perfect. What matters is getting out there and sharing adventures and memories together. I don't want to look back in 15-20 years and realize we never got to do the things I wanted together because I kept putting it off since plans weren't perfect for a big adventure. Jump in and go on little adventures and embrace imperfect big adventures. I am so excited to apply this in our lives. This book is perfect for any parpent and has so many tips on how to be present and make memories with your children. The writing is fantastic, engaging and entertaining, and you won't regret reading it!

"The joy of the adventure is simply spending time together. We must not discount an adventure because it is small. Instead, we need to recognize that the act of being with one another, no matter the place or activity, is what really creates bonds that last." - Greta Eskridge, Adventuring Together: How to Create Connections and Make Lasting Memories with Your Kids

I love this book. When I signed up to be on Greta's launch team for Adventuring Together, I knew the subject matter was perfect to me because it is a topic that is near and dear to me. One of the reasons my children are homeschooled is for the ability to have adventures practically whenever we wanted to. From following her Instagram, I also knew that the types of adventures that Greta took with her own family were the same ones that I usually took with my own.

Greta's fire and love for adventuring through life with her kids is evident through this book. She speaks clearly and passionately for stepping away from our comfort zones to experience life outside of our homes with our children at our side. Her reasons for this are many but the focus is that "thoughtful, intentional activities" are necessary to connecting strong bonds in family relationships. Falling into a rhythmic, monotonous pattern in our every day lives happens to many of us. We have to take the time to plan for things beyond the norm, that really stretch and grow us, with our children. She touches speaks to changing our hearts to do right by our kids so very well. Starting with our own attitudes in conjunction with taking big steps towards adventuring with our kids is hugely important.

If you need encouragement to get out and do more with your kids, or maybe your family is in a slump that just will never end (been there, done that!), I highly recommend you to take the time to read this. I came away so inspired to get out there, immediately, and explore and wander with my children, taking risks and bonding in ways that only shared experiences can bring. Greta gives many ideas on what to do when our adventures become misadventures, growing past activities into new ones, doing hard things, nature activities, books to read aloud, how to create an Adventure Club, and so much more.

Caveat:

Okay, okay. So CoVID-19. Yeah, this makes adventuring together look different than maybe what we would like it to. However, many of things that Greta writes about or lists as possibilities are things that can be done online. In fact, you will find a whole chapter devoted to indoor activities and while maybe visiting museums is not feasible at the moment, there are so many more experiences she recommends that can be created at home.

In conclusion, if you, like Greta, want to foster and shape close relationships with your kids, pick up this book and try some of the recommended activities. Starting with your own heart, and then encouraging the hearts of your children, try something new and see where it leads you.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is a lovely Christian book about how to not only have adventures with your children but how to form deep set relationships with them and memories to treasure too.

The book offers so much information and is perfect for any family income weather small or big. The adventures this mummy has to tell you about are beautiful and also simple to achieve and do too.

The author reassures you that adventures don't have to mean major things such as white water rafting to count, a day to the beach doing things like crabbing and watching the sun go down can be just as memorable and just as much of an adventure, especially in your kids minds.

This book is definitely one to read when you have children and is useful no matter what age they are.

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest and fair review. This was a really good book which helps the reader realize that having adventures with their kids is not only possible but enjoyable. Even though this book is nonfiction the author made it read like fiction by telling stories rather than just listing facts. I wish I had read this book when my kids were young but I hope to talk my husband into going adventuring even as we are older and empty nesters.

I will recommend this book for parents that want to build lasting and close relationships with their children.

As a mom of seven kids, I’m always looking for adventures both outside as well as inside when it’s just too hot or rainy. For me this book was a good reminder about being intentional in relationships with my children and gave me ideas for other ways to connect with them. One of my favorite quotes was “Adventuring together resets our hearts and minds individually and with one another.” I especially enjoyed Greta’s stories about adventuring with her children! Highly recommend this encouraging book!

This book was a delightful read. While I do consider our family an adventuring family already, this book had great suggestions on finding simple + practical ways to connect with my children. I was challenged to love my kids better and be even more intentional with adventuring with them.

Adventuring Together by Greta Eskridge is a beautifully simple book that encourages families to unplug and go explore - whether that means a walk to the local market or a trip to some foreign land. Spending times with kids is the most important thing a parent can do, and the author does a great job of providing a wide range of ideas and motivation available to every parent regardless of their situation.

I've been adventuring with my kids since they were born, so this book was very familiar in terms of the practical ways we as parents can engage our children, as well as the many benefits. If you are a parent who feels like they don't have the energy or the know-how to adventure with your kids, or if you've just run out of ideas and motivation, this is a terrific book.

The writing is clear and engaging, and the book is well organized and chock-full of great information and ideas. I have an idea it would be one I'd return to time and time again if my kids were still young.

This review is based on an advance copy read.

Such an important book for families today! Reconnecting with our kids through adventure is so important in the midst of current culture. Greta's book is so encouraging and practical. A must read and apply!

"If you really want to connect with your kids through adventure, just start where you are. Don't wait until you and your kids are ready for something you think is "big" enough. Small adventures count. Small adventures matter. Small adventures bring joy. Small adventures are the stepping stones to bigger ones."

Honestly, there are so many quotes from this book that I would love to include here. SOOOOO many! I adore Greta. She is fun, witty, and real. This book is just the same. I love reading about her adventures with her children over the years, as well as the misadventures. It makes it seem feasible to someone like me who has a threenager in the mix in this season of our lives. Sometimes those grand adventures seem overwhelming because, well they can be, especially with little ones. But does that mean that we just don't look for adventure at all? It shouldn't. I have had a tug at my heart to be more intentional with my time and my children. I have been blessed with these sweet, quickly growing children. And if I want to make a those lasting connections, I have to put the work in. Will it always be easy? No, but is anything that is worth it ever REALLY easy?! This book has given me the push to do just that - to take the adventures we have been talking about but too hesitant to actually pursue.

Greta shares her stories, along with practical advice along the way. She shares ideas of how to start adventuring with your children of all ages - big adventures, as well as smaller. All of them will make an impact and everlasting impression on your children! This book came at just the right time.

Read this book in a couple evenings. It is encouraging (even for the non adventure type person), the author shares her story of adventures, along with providing great ideas to make your own adventures. Adventures don't have to be complicate, but what they do, is provide great learning experiences and bonding.

Finished the book! Yay! I loved sitting down with my coffee and reading Adventuring Together in the morning or late into the night. It felt like sitting down with a good friend, to laugh with, cry with and encourage. Greta encourages us to take the time when they are little and it pays off when they are older. Can’t wait for more parents to read this and adventure with their kids and enjoy connecting with their kids on the trails, through bike rides, walks or wherever they find themselves. 🏕

As a big family, it can be overwhelming to plan adventures for our family. Adventuring Together by Greta Eskridge encouraged me that we can go big or small, global or local, exceptional or weekly, new or old with our family adventures and make remarkable memories that help create a family culture of connecting to each other. My husband and I want our children to always consider our family a safe home base, and Adventuring Together gave us another way to bond with intention. And as inspiring as all of this sounds, the book is also immensely practical and do-able, which is really the best combination for actual, attainable success.

I had the privilege of reading an pre-release copy of this book and I'm so glad I did. My kids are mostly older now, and I can feel the needs and rhythms shifting with older kids. Getting out and exploring is met with a mix of reactions, many not so good. :) I love how Greta makes it feel so very doable to get out and have adventures, even if your kids are small (or even if they are big!), whether your husband is Mr. Adventure or he just loves to sit on the couch, whether you live in the city or the county. She has the gift of encouragement and it comes through her writing. I left feeling inspired and refreshed. I highly recommend this book to mom's of all ages who want to build close relationships with their children and make lasting memories.
