When thirty something Charlotte’s career as a neurosurgeon abruptly ends, she takes on the world of acupuncture and holistic healing. Here is Charlotte in a nutshell. She is a member of an online support group for trauma survivors, she struggles to keep her new business afloat, and she believes her mysterious and secretive boyfriend, Peter, has gone missing. To add a shake of salt to her already open wounds, she is called in to help identify a dead (presumably murdered) woman in town. The crazy thing is, Charlotte has no idea who this woman is or why this “Jane-Doe” had Charlotte down as her “in case of emergency” contact. Here is where all of the questions come in. Why on earth is Charlotte being questioned by the police, who IS this mysterious dead woman, and where the hell is Peter? Throw in Charlotte’s ex-junkie best friend/co-worker, an officer and a gentleman, and a whole lot of acupuncture needles going every which way, and this book is crazy good! Scott’s fast paced story will have you effortlessly dipping in and out of chapters until the very end. Enjoy this summer treat!

In Case Of Emergency is such a wild ride of twists and turns, I never knew where the story was headed, and I loved that. I think the author's did a great job of sitting up Charlotte's world and some of the characters. There were some interesting power dynamics in regards to Charlotte's childhood and the past she is struggling to remember and i would have liked a more in-depth look into those aspects of her life.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars

In Case of Emergency by E.G. Scott was a fun, twisty thriller with a great and unique plot. In Case of Emergency is about a former neurosurgeon who is forced out of her job following a tragic surgery gone wrong. She then becomes an acupuncturist and alternative healer. One day, she is called in to identify a body due to her being listed at the Emergency Contact for the Jane Doe. When she goes to identify the body, she realizes she does not know who the person is or why she was listed as her Emergency Contact.

The writing was very fast-paced and suspenseful. I loved the characters of the detectives on the case. Some of the twists and plot points were VERY over the top, but, overall, it was a fun thriller to read during a day by the pool/beach. Fans of Alice Feeney and Megan Collins should check it out when it releases on 8/4/2020!

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The premise of a former neurosurgeon that saw her career end in tragedy having to identify a body of someone she never met because she was listed as their emergency contact was truly unique. The writing was really good and the twists kept coming as I read. I enjoyed this one!

Charlotte, a mid-thirties Long Island woman, has been working for the last few years to rebuild her life after she watched her future in neuroscience blow up in her face. Just as she believes her life is turning around, Charlotte’s boyfriend has gone missing and a corpse has turned up with a card listing her as the dead woman’s emergency contact. The problem is, Charlotte has never seen this woman before. Things start to go from bad to worse as Charlotte finds herself being investigated for murder. Who was this woman and what does she have to do with Charlotte?

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY is my first book by writing duo E.G. Scott. I absolutely love finding out that author names are pseudonyms for writing duos like Elizabeth Keenan and Greg Wands. Can you imagine penning a book with someone else? I can’t even begin to think about writing one on my own, let alone figuring out how to create a seamless story with someone else.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY examines the strange connections between our main character, Charlotte, and a recent murder victim. Scott plays a fun game with revealing how these two characters are related to each other and how Charlotte is seemingly involved with the murder. I loved the dynamics of the two detectives leading the case and Charlotte herself.

In order to draw out the truth in this story, Scott wisely gives the reader four alternating narratives. We hear from Charlotte, the two detectives investigating the murder, and Charlotte’s best friend and coworker. Each narrative offers a new perspective either on the case or on Charlotte and how the two may have crossed paths. I loved how by providing these different narratives, Scott created a book that combines thriller with police procedural. Watching the investigation and the main suspect truly allowed for a full picture to be created.

The chapters are kept quite short in this book, which helps to propel the story forward at a quick place. Often the reader finds themselves with a cliffhanger during one of the narratives, which naturally means you must keep reading! I love when authors use this technique to keep the story interesting and the reader on their toes.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY is a great addition to the crime fiction genre and has given me a new writing duo to read more from! I’m excited to check out E.G. Scott’s previous title, THE WOMAN INSIDE, after reading this book!

A huge thank you to Dutton for my gifted copy!

Formerly a neurosurgeon, Charlotte is recovering for a tragedy and has changed career paths and is now an acupuncturist. She and her best friend, Rachel, have gone in to practice together. With Rachel and an online support group, Charlotte has tried to move beyond her tragic past. When she is called by the morgue to identify a body, someone who has listed Charlotte as her emergency contact but whom Charlotte has never seen, she is thrown for a loop. And to complicate things, Rachel thinks that Charlotte’s new relationship with Peter is unhealthy and he’s leading her down a dangerous past.
Yes, there’s a lot going on, but it’s a good setup for when this story really gets rolling. There are some cagey characters, interesting relationships, and a final twist that I didn’t see coming. I’m trying to imagine how two authors work together to create a novel and make it feel cohesive, but this team did it so well.

Boy this was a great book. There were a lot of twists and dark turns in this and I was hooked the whole time. I really enjoy what these authors write. Looking forward to more from them.

Charlotte was once a brilliant neurosurgeon but, after one surgery went terribly wrong, she now has an acupuncture practice in Long Island, NY, where she works along with her friend Rachel. Charlotte is also involved in an online support group for trauma survivors. If things have not been bad enough for her, she also has a strained relationship with her mother and a missing boyfriend, Peter, who she met online and hasn't heard from in a while.

When she gets a call from the police asking her to come to the station to identify a body in a suspicious death case, she thinks maybe it's Peter but, it's a woman who she doesn't seem to know. The deceased woman carried an "In Case of Emergency" card that lead police to Charlotte after her name and number appeared on the card. Now Charlotte becomes a suspect in a murder investigation as the police aren't sure she's being truthful.

This was a near perfect psych thriller that kept me turning those pages. Charlotte is one hot mess; her past, her insecurities and anxiety make her an interesting character for this kind of story. There are two police detectives, Wolcott and Silvestri which were great additions to the story as well; a dynamic duo of good cop bad cop. A great story with a surprising ending and even though I felt there were a few minor plot elements that didn't feel right, it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the story.

This novel had so many twists and turns, I think a need a neck brace! In Case of Emergency is the new release from duo E.G. Scott. I haven’t read any of their work previously, however, I did enjoy this thriller!

From the publisher: Charlotte, a mid-thirties Long Island woman, has felt so alone since her promising career in neuroscience imploded. But she has an online support group for trauma survivors; she has Rachel, a friend who has seen her through the worst of it; and now she also has Peter, a mysterious new boyfriend who has asked that their budding romance remain a total secret.

That is why she is too scared to report his disappearance to the authorities when he vanishes without a word.
Weeks later, police contact her to make an ID on a body and she fears the worst for her missing beau. Instead, she arrives at the morgue and feels a terrible relief when she sees a woman she has never met before on the table in front of her. But relief is replaced by confusion, the

n terror, when Charlotte realizes she has become a person of interest.

Why did Jane Doe have Charlotte listed as her emergency contact? Was it revenge or a warning? And where exactly does Peter factor into all this? As Charlotte becomes the prime murder suspect, she enters into a race against the clock to find truth about the dead woman and the connections they shared. But what she discovers is beyond anything she could have ever imagined.

The plot moves at a quick pace and the main conflict was well developed overall. The characters were engaging and entertaining, keeping the reader interested in their lives and stories. The narration alternates between the two detectives, Silvestri and Wolcott, investigating the case and Charlotte, the novel’s main character.

Charlotte was an interesting protagonist- flawed, messy, intelligent, albeit extremely gullible. There were several times where I just wanted to shake her and yell, “WAKE UP!” particularly in her dealings with her boyfriend, Peter. So many crazy things happen to her throughout the novel, you are really rooting for her to get some form of a happy ending by the last page.

I will say the ending was too far out in left field for me. While I did not guess the culprit in advance, (which is always a win when it comes to reading thrillers) I struggled to accept the reasons behind their actions.

Overall if you are looking for your next edge of your seat thrill ride, I recommend checking out In Case of Emergency.

Wow so many secrets and lies. Isn't it a giant red flag when the new boyfriend asks you to keep their romance a secret? Id be running in the opposite direction but Charlotte didn't and that's one of the hooks that snagged me into the story. You just have to know. Add strong characters and a solid plot and there goes your afternoon in the blink of an eye. Happy reading!

3.5 ⭐️‘S
There really wasn’t very much thrilling about this thriller, much more of a mundane mystery. The story was uneven and we really never got to know the real Charlotte. The best part of the book were Detectives Walcott and Silvestri. Much of the dialogue was stilted and Charlotte was all over the board emotionally. While I was glad to finally reach the end, there were many loose ends that didn’t get tied up, leaving me unsatisfied with the finished product.

Enjoyable summer read! 4 out of 5 stars.

Charlotte finally feels like her life is coming back together after being forced out of a career as a neurosurgeon. She runs a wellness practice with her best friend Rachel and has a new mysterious boyfriend, Peter. Charlotte gets called down to the police station to ID a dead body and to her surprise, she doesn't know who this woman is & why she is listed as the emergency contact. When things start to not add up, Charlotte becomes the main suspect in this murder, but what is her connection to this dead woman?

Told through the shifting perspectives of Charlotte, Rachel, and the detectives, the book was super fast paced with the mystery continuing to unravel. E.G. Scott was able to weave an engaging novel with twists that I didn't see coming. Would recommend as summer read this year!

Thank you E.G. Scott, Dutton, and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. #NetGalley

After I started this book, I wasn’t actually sure that I would like it. For me, I felt like there were a lot of different story lines & I didn’t know if I would be able to keep up with everything. The more I read, the more I began to enjoy it.

As somebody who works in healthcare, I really enjoyed the medical side of this story. Even though there was a lot going on throughout the story & at some points a little confusing, I did enjoy how everything played out and came together.

When Charlotte gets called in to identify a body by the police, she never expects it to be someone she’s never met. She discovers that she was listed as the woman’s emergency contact but WHY?

I think I just found my new favourite writing duo!

This was a fun and entertaining read. A cast of unlikeable and unreliable characters (which are the perfect ingredient in a well crafted thriller), and short chapters this was a binge read for me.

A compelling mystery that will have you guessing the entire way through, In Case of Emergency was a fresh new premise and I really enjoyed it.

I highly recommend adding this one to your reading list once it releases on August 4.

Countless twists and turns keep the tension sky-high in E.G. Scott’s new thriller In Case of Emergency. Characters that are fully fleshed out, and fascinating, tell a story that is equal parts medical thriller and criminal mystery.

Charlotte is an acupuncturist whose practice is not as lively as she wishes it was, and her love life is not as lively as she wishes it was either. She feels so close to Peter, but he is away so much that their relationship has become quite strained. She keeps their relationship a secret, per his request, but it is starting to wear Charlotte down.

We know right away that there are mysteries in Charlotte’s background. She used to be a surgeon, but now she focuses exclusively on Eastern medicine. She also appears to put much more faith and attention on her online support group than she does in any face-to-face relationships. We also know that Charlotte has spent some time in a mental health facility (though we don’t know the details until much later in the story). This may make her more, or less, likeable for some readers, or more or less reliable as a narrator.

She is not our only narrator however, as E.G. Scott’s novel is arranged in a way where each character narrates his or her own parts of the story. This includes Charlotte, her best friend Rachel, as well as the two detectives involved.

The detectives, Silvestri and Wolcott, enter the story because when a young lady is found dead in the park, she has Charlotte’s contact information on her as her in case of emergency contact. Charlotte, however, has no idea why.

The characters tangle and untangle around each other as the mystery of who this dead young woman is and what connection she has to Charlotte ramps up into high gear. Rachel, it turns out, has some of her own secrets, and these begin to affect Charlotte in surprising ways.

Secrets, twists, and revelations abound in this tale of friendship, regrets, mistakes, and grief.  While there are some moments that the reader may feel a little off-balance trying to figure out the world they have been dropped in to, it is a world that is so well developed that the gradual unfolding of the details bring about a new development every time. E.G. Scott has written an exceptional story that keeps the reader guessing, but ultimately wraps everything up completely.

Charlotte was a brilliant young neurosurgeon until tragedy struck during one of her operations. She is no longer a surgeon and has restarted her life as an acupuncturist. She shares a work space with her best friend Rachel who is a massage therapist. She struggles with the trauma of what happened in her past. She has a boyfriend Peter, who is mysterious, disappears all the time, and basically calls all the shots in the relationship. Peter tells her he has a top-secret government job and is not allowed to reveal where he is most of the time.
One day while working on a new client, the police show up and want Charlotte to come with them. They want her to identify a body at the morgue. Someone was killed and had Charlotte’s name and phone number in their pocket. Charlotte fears the worst and thinks it is Peter. When she arrives and is shown a picture of the body, it is a woman she has never seen before. Who is it? Unfortunately, Charlotte becomes a suspect in the girl’s murder. This is a twisty tale. Nothing is what you think and no one is who you think. EG Scott does a great job with misdirection. In Case of Emergency is a book I will be thinking about for a long time to come. You should definitely read this book. If you like thrillers and mysteries you will definitely enjoy it. Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

After Charlotte's career in neurosurgery fell apart, she has to to make a new life. She is lonely and meets Peter. They begin dating and Peter says their relationship must be kept a secret. When Peter disappears, Charlotte doesn't report his disappearance to the police. A few weeks later Charlotte is asked to identify a dead body, Charlotte thinks it must be Peter. But it isn't! It's a stranger who has her listed as her emergency contact. Now Charlotte is a person of interest in this stranger's death. This was a fast paced thriller that kept me guessing until the end. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this slow-burn! I was having a hard time getting into it at first but I'm glad that I stuck with it because the pace really picked up about halfway through. The ending was definitely out of left field and I was way wrong about who the perp was going to be (this is one of the few things that I enjoy being wrong about). In Case of Emergency housed a very original premise and it was a breath of fresh air from a lot of recent thrillers I have read. I would have loved a more captivating start to the book but it was an overall fun read!

Charlotte has had to reinvent her life after her career as a neurosurgeon ended with a tragedy. She turned her love for helping others into her acupuncture practice on Long Island with her best friend Rachel as her business partner. Charlotte’s most important support besides Rachel has been her trauma survivors group and her long-distance boyfriend Peter. But Peter’s mysterious job has forced their romance to be a secret, and when he suddenly goes silent, Charlotte doesn’t know what to do.

After weeks of no trace of Peter, Charlotte is called to ID a body. Instead of finding Peter in the morgue, a woman she has never met is lying there. The Jane Doe was found with Charlotte’s name and number, leading to more questions than answers as Charlotte tries to find a connection to her. As the story unfolds, more mysteries arise and Detectives Wolcott and Silvestri turn to Charlotte as their prime suspect.

In Case of Emergency by E.G. Scott is full of surprising twists and dark turns. It will keep you guessing until the end.

One of my favorite writing duos is back again with a summer page turner. I devoured The Woman Inside so you can imagine I was stoked for this release. It was freaking fantastic! It really had it all and while I wasn’t particularly shocked at the ending I have to admit I suspected everyone at some point. Charlotte was the perfect hot mess express we needed for this tale. I could totally see this playing out on the big screen.

Highly recommend to fellow suspense readers.
