Overview:The year is 2060 and the world is divided between cyborgs and humans. Humans are the dominant race and the New Government will do anything to keep it that way.

Enter Scarlet Lock. She is neither human nor cyborg, but a governmental experiment designed to kill. With the help of a group of Cyborgs, Scarlet seeks to find the truth of her existence.

Rating: 4/5 stars
Gene: YA, Dystopian
POV: Third Person
Theme: Action, Adventure, Futuristic, Fantasy

Review:The story starts as Scarlet wakes up in the government facility, unable to remember anything from the last 20 years. As she escapes, she is hit by a couple of Cyborgs as she runs through a street. They take her in and give her a place to live as she figures out who she is and what has been happening. Throughout this first installment, Scarlet makes many new friends and a potential love interest. There is a twist at the end that makes you want to read book 2. The writing makes it easy to read.

Recommend: Yes, I am also buying book 2!

Scarlet is an awesome character who grew so much through the book. Sam and Eric were amazing too. This book reminded me of Cinder by Marissa Meyer and I really liked the comparison.

This is a great story from a genre I normally don't read, but I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the content. It's a dystropic society where cyborgs and humans live side by side. It pulls on the emotions of what makes us human and the relationships that we have. I always enjoyed the characters and their interactions.

I am struggling with my review because I can't figure out why I wasn't completely over the moon with this and I believe that the characters could have been a bit better developed. I loved them at the beginning of the book, but by the end, I didn't feel anything. Maybe it's just me....

I will read the second installment and hopefully it will reinvigorate my love for the characters.

A special thank you to NetGalley, Amazon Publishing, and J.F. Johns for providing me with a copy.

Eternal Darkness is the genre which I don’t usually read. I think this is my first book that I read about cyborg and it was interesting. I liked the concept and idea!

The story was about the world in a few years later. There is cyborg world and a human world. The story started when Scarlet Lock ran away from the hospital and she met Sam, Curtis, Madeleine and Eric when she was running away. A cyborg was still a human. However, when human discovered this experiment, they saw cyborgs as freaks. Scarlet Lock was something else. She maybe a government killing weapon.

The plot was really good and interesting. Everything is amazing and makes sense. I liked the writing and the way it was written was wonderful. It was a bit slow paced in the beginning but it’s getting more interesting after a few pages.

The main character is Sacrlet Lock. She’s was an okay character but sometimes I felt irritated when she became hard-headed. I liked Eric and Andrew. These two are my favorite characters. Other characters were just fine and they have played their parts well. And they felt real to me.

I need the book 2 because the ending left me curious!

All in all, if you like story about cyborg and dystopian, I think this is your book.

Thank you NetGalley & J. F. Johns for sharing this book in return for an honest review.

A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is not my usual genre, I’m more of a crime/thriller reader however this story intrigued me. I absolutely loved it, truly one of the best books I have read. I am extremely pleased and grateful to both for opening up my mind to something totally different.

I’m honestly a little confused... I loved the book by itself but I’m trying to figure out where it stands with After Darkness.... the side characters were mostly unlikeable... the story was good but without any reference to where this story aligns with the other I’m kind of at a loss.

I’ve wavered in my review.

On one hand, I found this hard work. It took me nearly a third of the book to hit my stride. I couldn’t figure out the characters and I didn’t particularly like any of them. On the other hand, I recognise this is probably the result of the author writing something quite unique and new. As a SciFi, cyborg and fantasy addict, I’ve read hundreds of YA books in this genre and with similar themes. And “Eternal Darkness” didn’t follow all the usual tropes, which was refreshing.

I’m glad I persevered. It raises interesting questions about humanity, the human condition, relationships and identity.

This is the kind of Dystopian that I absolutely love. The concept that the government decides to "improve" people to save them, but then suddenly a new government decides that these "improved" humans are undesirable and become second-class citizens is so realistic to me, and it makes it so much scarier! I really like the different characters, and how they cope with their lives as a cyborg in different ways, and that you can tell that they have been through a lot of shit. I can't wait to read the rest of the books!

This first drew me in because of the cover and then the blurb. I really liked the characters and overall story. I'm a huge sci finfan and this delivered. Had a bit of old mixed with new in the genre. Very good read!
