I know this was published a while ago, but unfortunately I never got around to reading it. It sounds very interesting, but with the information that came out about Ravi after his death, I have not been able to pick up any of his books. Maybe I will read this one day, but that day is not today.

Another great title from the late author, Ravi Zacharias. It was a fantastic read on seeing Jesus with new eyes. Of why we can not view Jesus just through our western eyes. Highly recommended.

This was such a wonderful read. A book coming from this perspective. As a westerner, it is easy to stay in the box you've formed for yourself and wonder why others don't see things the same way you do. To see Jesus from this perspective - that being from an Eastern perspective, and how others view him was truly an honor. It allowed me to see others in different cultures in a new light, as well as Jesus himself. I couldn't recommend this book enough. Pick it up!

As always Ravi Zacharias' work is concise, clear and comprehensible. This book was no exception. It was immense help in understanding Jesus from the eastern eyes. Highly recommended

Ravi Zacarias is one of a kind. This book is insightful, challenging, educational and enjoyable all at the same time. It brings a different perspective to how we in the west view Jesus, how we have 'westernised' him. But ultimately it highlights that Jesus is a universal character who died for ALL

I don't think I have yet been disappointed with a book by Ravi Zacharias. The topic intrigued me. I want to understand more about Jesus in the context in which he lived. The truth applies to all people in every time and every place. I was not disappointed.

I read the book and highlighted quite a bit of the book.

The chapter on Honor, Shame and Jesus was helpful. This was helpful as I think of those from the East that I work and minister among.

Reading this book helped me to see more clearly who Jesus is and how his ministry was powerful when he was here on earth but how that continues today.

I highly recommend this book.

Thanks to netgalley for a copy of the book to review. The review and opinion are my own.

The book starts out with a story about two warriors fighting and finding out tragically, that the father killed the son he did not know he had.
The Gospel is full of stories, as are the Quaran and the Hindu writings. In the Muslim, Hindu, and other cultures, becoming a Christian means a rejection bu one's family and culture, so a believer has to be strong in his or her faith in order to survive. The Gospel is the true revelation of God's love, in the person of Jesus, without God's love there is no Gospel!
The gospel is true, it is for all mankind, it is personal, and it is ultimately the only story of true liberation!

"On Christmas Day 2018, the Indian publication The Wire posted an article by Rohit Kumar titled, “How Would Jesus Have Fared Amongst Contemporary Indian Godmen?”

Kumar reached a surprising conclusion: “Yeshu Baba would have been a disaster as a contemporary Indian godman . . . Pro-service, anti-ritualism; pro-poor, antielitism; pro-women, anti-patriarchalism; pro-freedom, antiorthodoxy; Yeshu Baba’s career as a godman would have ended before it began."
In India, it is not normal for family members to declare their love for each other. It is eye-opening to hear Jesus say He loves us and that we can have a relationship with the One who created us!

This book is an interesting lens through which to view the Bible from two Eastern perspectives. The book almost reads as a compendium of lectures, considering various elements of Eastern culture and how they impact our interpretation of both scripture and evangelism. I particular enjoyed the chapters on family and honour.

Seeing Jesus from the East is a poignant read. It was originally planned to be written with Nabeel Qureshi who died, and by the time I read it, Ravi Zacharias had also died.

5 stars
Seeing Jesus from the East by Ravi Zacharias; Abdu Murray

The authors have written an amazing book highlighting the fact Jesus is for everyone. One of their main points shows how Jesus came from the Middle East but He is for all, no matter age, ethnicity or gender. This is just an extremely well-written book that I highly recommend to everyone. The theology is solid.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. The views given are my own.

#Seeing Jesus from the East# by Ravi Zacharias and Abdu Murray is a nonfiction Christian book. Ravi became a Christian at the age of 17. At 71 He was still speaking, preaching, teaching about Jesus and specifically apologetics . He passed away in 2020 and will be remembered by many. He started a ministry RZIM in 1984. This book is written by Ravi Zacharias and Abdu Murray. They both want us to understand the Eastern cultural view of the world. They want us to understand how the .Eastern view of the world impacts our view of Jesus and Christianity. They want us to have a fresh encounter with Jesus. This book will give a new perspective to the Bible. It will open Christians to how Easterners think and relate to the world in other worlds their world view. This book will show the reader how difficult it is for the Easterner to convert to Christianity. There are so many obstacles that they have to wrestle with including their families and those in their range of influence. Since Jesus grew up and lived in the Middle East this perspective will help us understand Him better. Thank you to the author, publisher, netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book. Seeing Jesus from the East is the most recent (and possibly final) book from the late Ravi Zacharias and arguably one of his best. Many of the theological concepts discussed in previous books are elaborated and improved upon in this one, particularly understanding Jesus' roots in Semitic culture, how Eastern cultures view Christianity, and what Christians of different cultures can learn from each other. The chapters are written by the authors individually rather than together. The personal stories of Zacharias, who grew up in a nominal Christian family in India, and Murray, who grew up in a Muslim family in the Middle East, ground the theological concepts into reality. I enjoyed the use of current events as a way of adding urgency to the ideas. Both authors write in a straightforward manner but without watering down the intellectual and theological ideas they wished to present. Western Christianity is often insular to Eastern Christians and their culture, and this book is a great start to understanding the divide. As the authors argue, Jesus is the ultimate answer - He is culturally relevant to the East and West, and entering into a relationship with Him breaks down the barriers that exist between people.

I love books like this that help me understand how Jesus may have been truly seen.

The most useful insight was how Easterners view suffering as an honour. They respect the conviction of those who suffer even if they don't agree with them.

It's a book that needs careful reading and re-reading.

I started reading this before the passing of the beloved author and evangelist, Ravi Zacharias, and how fitting that it is one of his most personal and my favorite.

Originally planned to be co-written with the late Nabeel Qureshi, in this book Mr. Zacharias enlists the perspective of fellow author Abdu Murray as they share personal testimonies, and illustrate the difference that understanding the Gospel from within the original Eastern context giving greater understanding and context to the Gospel. I loved how Zacharias and Murray show the transcendent power of the Gospel that speaks to both Eastern and Western hearts, in our search for significance and meaning.

This book builds a fantastic case for reading the Scriptures in the context of an Eastern honor/shame culture, as this was the audience to which Jesus preached. This book uncovers many passages with an added depth when viewed through an Eastern lense that I will never view in the same way again.

I can't recommend this book enough, it does a great way of compellingly revealing the significance of an Eastern interpretation, as well as how Jesus's teachings that were radical to the Eastern ear were foundations of our Western culture. Well balanced and accessible, this book is an excellent read, bringing out the nuances of the culture our faith is rooted in. One of the stand out reads from this year, highly recommend!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

While the language is sometimes repetitive (like most professional public speakers, the authors have key phrases they like to use over and over to hit the point home, a strategy that isn't really necessary for a book), the content is quite good. Murray and Zacharias open readers' eyes to concepts that make sense of sections in the Gospels which may have seemed confusing (such as Jesus' emphasis on storytelling and riddles), as well as subtext that Western readers often miss (such as the emphasis on shame and honor). Utterly fascinating and highly compelling.
