What a great historical fiction book from Danielle Steele. The books begins with Eleanor's debutante ball in the 1920s followed by her wedding. Life was luxurious and lavish and it was all Eleanor had ever known. She had traveled to Europe to have a custom wedding dress created for her. She is ready to start her life with the man she loves only to find out on their honeymoon that things are not going well at home. The Stock Market crash of 199 has hit and they are about the enter the Great Depression. This book follows Eleanor and her husband, Alex's life along with her daughter Camille, her granddaughter Ruby and her great granddaughter Kendall.
As someone who does not typically read historical fiction, I was thoroughly impressed with this book. It made me smile, laugh and cry all throughout. It was interested to follow the characters through their triumphs and losses and how their stories interweave together to tell this story.

Eleanor Deveraux lives a gilded life in New York. As the book opens, the beautiful Eleanor is preparing for her coming out ball in the family mansion. All glitters, a stunning gown from the famed designer Worth is worn, and she falls in love instantly with a wealthy and handsome man. Nothing could be more perfect for this young woman.
Alexander Allen comes from a banking family and now heads the family bank. He is nursing a broken heart, jilted by a sweetheart years earlier, but his suffering comes to an end when he meets the sweet and perfect Eleanor. The wedding dress from the book's title comes into play very quickly.
This is a family saga that spans the lives of Eleanor and Alex, taking them from the start of the Depression through World War II and beyond. There is so much drama in these years to mine, and the overall plot of riches to rags to riches is one that I should have enjoyed.
Here's the good: The debutante and wedding dresses are described very well. I enjoyed reading about these beautiful dresses (and the title of the book definitely drew me in), and seeing them re-emerge at various points in the book. They don't play a pivotal role, by any means, but they link generations.
Here's the bad: The book reads like an in-depth summary of a very good plot, but it had no heart. I never cared about the main characters, even as they fell in love and suffered tragedies. Within two paragraphs, the author would suddenly sum-up a decade. Overall, this book seemed like such a missed opportunity for this skilled author to write a much better story. My tepid star rating reflects that. The book was a disappointment.

It’s nice to take a break from all of the psychological thrillers I tend to read. This latest book by Danielle Steel (which is my 30th book by D. Steele) was very entertaining - spanning from when the Spanish Flu pandemic to the 1970’s. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

What a marvelous story but then again what do you expect from Danielle Steel. I truly enjoyed the story that crossed several decades following a wedding dress from one generation to the next. The characters felt so real and relatable. Ms. Steel has a way of touching a part of your soul with her books and this one was no different. You will definitely go through a range of emotions reading this book and by the end you feel extremely satisfied with the experience. I highly recommend this book to all those folks that want to take a little trip through history.

Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review. As a longtime Danielle Steel reader, and working in weddings and events this one was especially of interest to me and I really enjoyed it.
Four generations and their stories, all woven together with a dress, dreamy. Loved getting to know each character in this title and how they were woven together.

The Wedding Dress follows a family through several generations by way of a wedding dress made just before the 1929 market crash. From mother to daughter, down the generations, it's interesting to see the different personalities. The story is enjoyable with a few surprises.

I really enjoyed this book. Danielle Steel is one of my favorite authors.
I love how she spanned the time between the generations and how the dress melded with each brides personality. I enjoyed the span of history and the characterization of the time periods.
I wish the book was longer. I would have liked more details during each generation. It seemed too fast at times but overall it was a really good book.

Typical quick read from Danielle Steel. I have been a fan and reader since high school, and I read every one of her books that she writes. I loved the prmise of hte dress following a long line of women. I did find myself reading and thinking to myself "that rich people with way too much money.." It was well written and I liked how the characters came full circle though thier life.

Another great book by Danielle Steel. This one spanned the decades and gives you all the feels with heirlooms being passed down. The characters are all relatable and you find yourself feeling like you truly know them. My favorite of Danielle Steel's I've read in a long time.
Thank you to netgalley in exchange for the honest review.

What a fun and amazing book. So good for these times showing the ups and downs of fortune and how to keep a great attitude. This was a great read!!

It has been a very long time since I have read a book by Danielle Steel. I saw this one and was intrigued by the description and requested it. This is a beautiful story. That spans several generations.
The story opens in the 1920's to Eleanor's coming of age ball. The descriptions of the scenery make it come to life. MS. Steel describes Eleanor's dancing book so well I could picture exactly how it looked.
The first concentration is Alex and Eleanor. Such a perfect couple. The extravagant wedding and the crash of 29. The book follows their rebuilding and how they stay close with Eleanor's parents.
This story spans from 1920s to 1980/1990. Follow the generations through triumph, heartbreak, love, infidelity and so much more.
I love the theme of the wedding dress. That is a treasured family heirloom.
I received a copy of this book through netgalley. All thoughts are my own.

A story about a family wedding dress that passes down through different generations. It is a good story of the ensuing marriages and the various people in the family. This story is written in the third person, which I am not a fan of. I find it feels more impersonal to me and thus harder for me to relate to the characters when the story is written in third person. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

Well Danielle Steel did it again, great book with awesome characters who are totally relatable!! Another story from her that I truly feel in love with. I will be recommending this to many people. I think one could find a couple characters that can relate to!!!!

Danielle Steel does it again in creating a timeless tale with The Wedding Dress. She joins a trend of stories that follow the history of a wedding dress across generations (The Gown, The Grace Kelly Dress) and does it successfully.
This tale starts in 1920s San Francisco and covers four generations. Any history fans will anticipate what is coming to the family's lavish wealth in the first generation. What follows is the fall and rise again as the family deals with fate and fortune, and the wedding dress is a constant.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

The Wedding Dress is a historical fiction novel that transcends several generations of women that all experience great love and wear the symbolic family wedding dress. The glitz and glamour of the wealthy in the 1920s before the stock market crash is where the novel begins with the coming out ball for Eleanor, where she meets Alex. The two fall in love and are at the top of the world until the Great Depression and their entire lives are changed forever. Despite the hard times, the two find ways to survive and set the example of family and love with the rest of the families stories that are told throughout the novel. The book provided a great escape and shows that even in tough times, love can prevail.

#The WeddingDress#NetGalleyThe book brings you through four generation of a family from the highs to the lows
Story starts in San Francisco in the 1920'a as Charles and Louise Deveraux are living a grand life. They have a daughter Eleanor who is a debutante. The Mother and Daughter go to Europe for the perfect dress. At the ball she meets her future husband Alexander.on their honeymoon the stock market crashes. Things change, the families draw strength from each other.. They have a daughter and a granddaughter. life circles as each generation has many different hopes.
It is filled with traditions, and many family bonds as the world continues to go through change.
I really enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed many other Danielle Steel books.

A great story following a family through the years as their fortunes change and the world changes. Tells us that not all riches are in houses and bank account but rather in the way we interact with each other. Loved this book.

The Wedding Dress was a quick read, but did not meet my expectations. It was almost as if I had read this book before. Love and loss, financial gains losses and gains again., highs and lows, but nothing fascinating or memorable stood out.

Danielle Steel does it again. A easy read , a historical fiction book.
This is about a young wealthy couple who marry in a lavish ceremony. Both have never know life without wealth. After returning from their honeymoon ,the stock market crashes and life as they know it changes . A good fast read in true Danielle Steel fashion

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Eleanor was born and raised in the Golden Era before the Crash of 1929. When she met the love of her life, her mother took her to Paris to buy a couture wedding dress, which was the beginning of her happily ever after. During her honeymoon to Alex, financial ruin came to America and the world, and life changed dramatically. What follows is the story of Eleanor and Alex, and the future generations of their family, in which The Wedding Dress unites the generations.
Danielle Steel is a good writer, and I wanted to like this book more than I did. That is not to say that this was not an entertaining book, and a welcome read during the current COVID-19 crisis. I found this to be a generally well written book that kept my interest, and was a quick read. Right now, the world could really use some feel-good books where good people overcome adversity together, and this book definitely fits that bill.
This novel seems to follow the proven formula: girl meets boy, girl marries boy, girl and boy endure multiple devastating hardships together, and by the end everyone is happy and the book is tied up in a neat little bow. Such was the case with this latest novel. I understand doing what works, but I found myself wishing during the reading of this book that Ms. Steel would give her heroine just the tiniest break this time.
There were a few spots that were a bit to repetitive for my taste, as though the reader couldn’t be trusted to remember what had happened on the previous page. I also found a few minor historical inaccuracies that kept me pausing my reading to do a quick fact check on many points made in the book. I strongly feel that an author writing a historical fiction book should be thorough in their research, but most readers would probably not even notice the sticky points.
Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book.
