I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Unique book about reading, creating a leader's reading library and building a personal library that will serve you in business and life lessons. Told from a military viewpoint, this book is very helpful for the newly graduated student building a firm foundation for work and life skills. As a long time reader, it challenged me to review my own bookshelves and digital content for books that will stand the test of time and encourage personal growth. They state the use of reading list is instrumental in growing a home library in any format. We all read, whether our social media account posts or a classic novel, reading keeps us learning about the world of the past, present and future.
Excellent book about reading! Much for me to think about as I curate my personal paper and digital library this year, 2022. I'm only sorry it took so long for me to get to this book.

A summary of the top 50 leadership books as recommended by a group of soldiers. I haven't read the individual books, so can't say how accurate the summaries are, but an easy recommendation for anyone with any kind of leadership role.

**I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The electronic copy that was given has lots of blank pages.. It would have been best if the manuscript was complete so reviewers can better make sound commenta about this book.

James G. Stavridis rose up through the ranks of the US Navy and is a former Supreme Allied Commander at NATO. He and his co-worker spent several years asking over 200 active and retired military leaders about their favorite books. In The Leader's Bookshelf, the resultant books are ranked by most popular amongst the leaders. The book also contains additional reading list and recommendations on how leaders can benefit from reading.

The resultant list includes an analysis of each book including a summary and what lessons it contains about leadership. The list, as one would expect, is mostly made up of military history non-fiction, but there a handful of general non-fiction works and even some fiction.

I have never been in the military but I have been in several leadership positions over the course of my career. I am always looking to improve my skill set. And frankly, I can resist book lists. I was pleased to discover that I'd already read a few books on this list and I added some more to my to-read list. So, I got something out of it despite not being in a role as a military leader. I recommend this book to anyone who is in a leadership role or looking to be in a leadership role.

Of the books listed, I've read:
The Art of War
Ender’s Game
To Kill a Mockingbird

Great insight into the minds of military leaders. The authors interview a variety of senior military leaders, asking them to identify the books that have influenced them and helped to develop their leadership skill. I was actually surprised by the amount of reading, and the values gained by reading, each leader explained. And the books selected were of a great variety....from the Art of War to Killer Angels to the Bible. Wow!
Reading this book would be of great benefit for budding leaders and those who want to become leaders. I know that I have identified several books to put on my To Be Read list.

This was a fascinating collection of a new kind of a book of lists by different leaders in the US and in the world. Each section has a different book and highlights a summary and quotes. Not what I was expecting Great list of books for suggested reading for anyone in political role.

Great list and information on each book; carefully researched for the subject.

Thanks to NetGalley, James G Stavridis and Naval Institute for a copy of this book to read.
