Sara and Matt are married with 3 kids. It's painfully obvious that Matt is completely selfish with no regard for what Sara wants. There were so many times I was rooting for Sara to speak up, fight back, but she seemed to just roll over.

Things really heat up when Matt loses his job and thinks he has everything all figured out, putting Sara and her needs on the back burner yet again. Sara decides to take matters into her own hands and agrees to a favor for her boss. It takes a while to really understand what the favor entails, the boss is vague and the mystery of it all hangs in the air. This book took a while to really get into the thriller aspect, but it's not a bad thing. I enjoyed watching the story unfold, uncertain where it was going.

Even though it was Sara's mistake, I despised Mark. He was a terrible husband and his actions didn't make sense and had me constantly trying to figure him out. I enjoyed watching the story unravel, never sure how it was going to play out.

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A brilliant book from beginning to end which thrilled me off my seat many a time with excitement.

Sara had a beautiful, loving family. When husband Matt was made redundant and she lost her savings, her one mistake started the ball rolling with devastating after effects

I have read all of Rona's books, and this was one of my favorites. The nuances of naiveté of the main character mixed with the suspense of the plot added a dash of spice, making this a heart-stopping thriller. Relationships were etched in a comfortable zone bringing me to a lull up to a point where the author then subtly pushed me toward the realms of my doubts.

Many delicious bits kept popping up which tingled my spidey senses and made the plot so juicy. The author certainly knew how to keep me on my toes through the entire book. The roads shown and led on were the delicious pieces of mirage that I thought to be true, only to realize in the mid-book I was walking on air. And plop did I land on my arse with some shocking reveals.

Sleight of hand was the trademark of this suspenseful writer, whose ink was pure magic, dipped in oodles of suspense. Not giving me a moment to gather my senses, I was gripped by this compulsive read, an oasis in the world that had gone into crisis. Absolutely enthralling!!

This is a really clever, fast paced novel that grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go! I read this in less than a day and loved it, really well written and great characterisation. I would definitely recommend it!

It was time for a change of pace for me. And oh - what a tangled web we weave. That was tense! I’m often critical of books that include copious amounts of introspection by clueless female protagonists. Yet in this book it was really well done (and it wasn’t even copious and Sara was not totally clueless).

Sara and her older sister, Hailey, had a pretty awful childhood. Sara has managed to put all that behind her. She has been happily married to Matt for 18 years, has a lovely house and three children that she adores. So when Matt loses his job one day and later comes up with a business idea and asks Sara to put in the £9,000 she inherited from an aunt so he can set it up Sara just wants to sink through the floor. She has lost the money in a dodgy investment. How can she tell Matt? Simple - she doesn’t tell him. Instead she comes up with another idea to ‘save’ the family. That was her mistake! The repercussions though are shocking and quickly escalate into an horrific situation from which there is no easy outcome. There will be pain.

Her boss at her part-time job offers to help her out in return for some favours. No, it’s not what you think but it still leads to some ugly happenings. Sara is a mess of nerves and is riven by guilt for the lies she has told. But with the help of her sister she begins to plot a way out of the mess she has created - but will they all live happily ever after?

This was a very compelling read which I devoured in one day. I felt Sara’s tension and despair. What the author did really well was to keep it real. I could almost see how this could happen to some poor unfortunate in real life.

And one mistake is all it takes, to create a situation that changes lives, forever

Sara and Matt have a good life, twins daughters plus a younger son, acceptable house and enough money......this all changes when Matt is made redundant and needs cash quick, he starts a new ‘venture’, secretive but apparently lucrative and Sara takes on more hours at the Community Centre,
Both spell disaster
Sara is tempted to an easy solution to solve their money issues and as she hovers deciding whether to do it little does she realise the chaos this decision will invoke
Matt has his own dilemma, just what has he agreed to to make money and just how consensual is the fetish dating app he has been asked to devised...things really hit the fan when Sara appears on it, on video, but has no memory of it happening
Things are unravelling, at a rate of knots and who will come out of this unscathed, whose mistake will change their lives forever
Fast paced, addictive ( I read it one go, more or less ) with a charge of unsettling menace the author, once again, has written a fab dark and unsettling psychological thrill (er)
A full range of characters to like, and despise 🤗 great story telling and a really good tale to immerse yer sen ( loving the Yorkshire locations as lived there 10 years ) in

10/10

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this book!
I really enjoyed reading it for the most part. It was written in third person but I kept feeling like it should have been written in first person. Every time Sara’s name was mentioned, I had to remind myself that she was the protagonist. It kept me interested though. I had a really hard time with the decisions made by Sara and I was often yelling at her for being such an idiot. I didn’t like her husband from the beginning.
I did like how the book ended and I would definitely recommend One Mistake. Everything fell into place and most questions were answered. It was a quick read and I finished it in less than two days.

Plot

Sara married to Matt, two teenage daughters and a four-year-old Son. Life seems perfect until Matt looses his job along with his confidence. It is now her job to bring in the money and her boss offers her deal to do him a favour. She will do anything for her family. Family is her top priority, because of her and her sister growing up in foster care.

An interesting plot line with many lies, deceit, financial problems and so much more. Many surprises and misdirections throughout, a gripping unputdownable book.

Characters

Sara is the main character, she is a likeable character but also somebody you wish you could slap around the face with a wet fish. At first seems, it she has a happy marriage with a good man, but his true colours show with his selfish attitude, his behaviour towards sara and the children.

I loved the relationship between Sara and her Sister, Hailey. We get many glimpses of there childhood which adds to the story greatly.

James is another character who you love and hate at the same time, him being a 'too nice' person and leaves you wondering throughout, constantly your opinion.

Writing

Ronas writing is awesome, she knows how to craft a story with many themes that many people go through everyday, create an interesting backstory of a horrible childhood and does so brillantly. crafting many complicated untruthworthy character and a brillant plot line.

Pacing

This is a fast-paced book full of suspense, misdirections, twists and turns and keeps you addictive the mutiple level plot lines. It is pysychological, engrossing, thrilling suspenseful thrillerwhch I thoughly enjoyed.

OVERALL

A Engrossing, addictive, suspenfull thriller which is full of misdiections and twists and turns. intreiguing charcaters you love and hate constanly changing your opinion. A top notch writer with a brillant plot with mutiple levels.

I Owe You (One Mistake) by Rona Halsall is a quick, entertaining read that’s perfect for fans of domestic suspense. Sara and her sister, Hailey, grew mostly up in foster care after being partially raised by a negligent mother. That experience made Sara long for the perfect family, something she believed that she and her husband Matt have achieved. After Matt loses his job, Sara makes a series of bad decisions, ultimately spiraling her family into a web of lies and deceit.

Roma Halsall has created a twisty web of a story, leaving the reader guessing until the very end who is pulling the strings of the puppet that Sara has become in an attempt to cover up her mistakes. The reader can almost put themselves in Sara’s shoes, imagining the trapped feeling that makes her do things that she normally wouldn’t consider doing. This is my first Rona Halsall novel, but it won’t be my last, and I would definitely recommend I Owe You (One Mistake)!

Thanks to Rona Halsall, Bookouture, and Netgalley for my advance copy in return for my honest review.

Thank you to the publisher, Rona Halsall and NetGalley for an early review of this book, for an honest review.

This is a new author for me, and this book was a great read, and I absolutely loved it.

While Sara has a great life and really enjoys what she does, she does always want for something more, and we all know how sometimes you don't really want your wishes to be granted. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I loved watching out the secrets were kept and not kept, and how things just kept steamrolling from there.

I started and completed this in one day.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘I Owe You’ by Rona Halsall in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Sara’s husband Matt is made redundant and needs money to start up his own IT business. With a mortgage and bills to pay and three children to feed and clothe, Sara has no idea how to get enough money to keep her family solvent. When her boss Richard makes her an offer on the understanding she does him a ‘little favour’ Sara realises she has no choice but to accept but she doesn’t realise at the time what that favour involves.

Although I found ‘I Owe You’ slow to start it soon turns into a gripping and disturbing thriller with a cleverly written plot, intriguing characters, twists and turns, and a plot so perplexing that I couldn’t decide who to trust. When I reached the conclusion the final twist was totally unexpected and I was left open-mouthed in shock and disbelief. Yet again Rona Halsall has written an exciting thriller that’s easy to read and impossible to put down and I can definitely recommend it.

Sara has the happy family life that she has always wanted. That is until her husband, Matt loses his job. Sara is offered a way out of her situation by her boss. All she has to do is a little favour for him in return. Younwill need to get yourself a copy of this book this book to find out what it was.

Sensitive and difficult subject matter is covered in this story. The characters younwill either love or loathe. It's a it slow to start then before you know it, your hooked and gripped by the events taking place. It's full of twists, suspense and deceit. This is a well craft ed psychological thriller. I do recommend this book.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Rona Halsall for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

this book was a somewhat interesting tale of what happens when you do one wrong thing for the right reasons. the plot was unbelievable, with almost no one trustworthy or out of the realm of consequences. so it lost credibility as a morality story. it was a quick read

I really enjoyed this story and easily got to grips with what was going on. It made it quite hard hitting at times due to part of the theme of the story so really made me feel for Sara and what she went through, and how hard it is to get people to believe her, when there’s evidence to prove otherwise (trying not to give spoilers).
The only thing I will say about this book is that I would not class it as a Psychological Thriller. It was more a Mystery/Suspense type of read.

This was an amazing read. A book that is very hard to put down. This book started off a little slow at first but then it got to the point you can't stop reading because you want to find out what happens next. I was so confused though out the book on who to believe the good people were and who were bad. I loved trying to figure out what was going on but in the end I was shocked. This is the first book I've read by this author and I loved it and look forward to reading more of her books. I highly recommend this book to mystery and thriller lovers.

I Owe You Rona Halsall

A great stand-alone thriller.

Sara and Matt are happily married with teenage twin daughters and a 4 year old son. Or that’s what everybody thinks.

Matt has been a bit off for months, and Sara doesn’t know why, so when she tells her sister she thinks Matts having an affair she suggests she follows him.

But Matt isn’t having an affair, he is made redundant on the same day he is followed.

What follows is a series of errors of judgement made in all innocence. Sara had invested her inheritance, against Matts advice and has lost the lot. Matt has a business idea, but he needs the money from the inheritance.

Sara can’t’ tell him she’s lost it so makes her second mistake.

And so the first two dominos are tipped, and the domino rally of bad decisions and the subsequent consequences rush through the book to its thrilling end.

This book carries a story that could so easily be true.

There is no greed involved, only ambition, secrets and lies, all of which are initially made in all innocence, all of which exasperating the situation.

This is definitely a case of things going from bad to worse, but who will be the casualties.

A great read

This is a great psychological thriller that will have you hooked from the first few pages.
I loved this book as it really pulled me in to the story and I was desparate to know how it would all end.
Sara’s life crumbles around her when her husband, Matt, loses his job and she has to work full time.
This is where things start to go wrong both at work and at home.
Sara makes a terrible decision but could never contemplate the consequences this would have for her.
I really felt sorry for Sara during the book and was left shocked at some of the things that happen to her.
This is a great read that I highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Let this serve as a warning: If you pick up I Owe You, there is a very strong likelihood you'll have trouble putting it down.

A few pages in, I assumed this would be another domestic thriller with an unlikeable husband and a few good twists. Reader, it was so much more. Packed with WTF plotlines, eyebrow-raising incidents and ominous breadcrumbs, I Owe You was the kind of thriller I relish. While borrowing some tropes from the genre (like the unlikeable husband), it managed to put a fresh spin on a crowded concept.
