This is my favorite kind of history book: a biography of an unsung hero. This book recaps the trials and tribulations of Virginia Hall a spy who thwarted the Nazis even with so much of the deck stacked against her (she lost a leg in a hunting accident, faced discrimination because she was female, etc.). While Hall's life was fascinating, this book may feel a bit heavy for fans of narrative nonfiction. However, this should not discourage you from giving this one a go!
