Princess Fuzzypants here: As a cat, I never have any difficulty sleeping- anytime, anywhere. Humans, on the other paw, frequently are unable to fall asleep, even with gentle purring in their ears.
This is a charming little book with delightful pictures that might help young children relax and fall asleep.

Five purrs and two paws up.

This book is almost a 5. Almost. The illustrations are amazing and I wish the layout was better to focus on them more. They are like little postage stamps on a blue background when they should be bold and big. The story is quite fun, the rhymes work even if a few are harsh and trip the tongue. Overall this is a lovely book I would add to any library collection.

Chester Chipmunk Will NOT Sleep is not only wonderfully illustrated, but incredibly lyrical as well. I am always on the lookout for books that have a fun reading pattern, and this one is definitely the best I've found in 2020 thus far!

I just reviewed Chester Chipmunk Will NOT Sleep by Kathleen George, illustrations by Louisa Mae. #ChesterChipmunkWillNOTSleep #NetGalley [https://www.netgalley.com/member/book/188027]

Poetic book to accompany your kids to bed at night, that encourages them to dream (therefore sleep) with beautiful illustrations.

Chester Chipmunk is like nearly all children. He just will not go to bed. He has important things to do and no time for sleep. His clever Mama helps him to see the possible travels in dreaming and lovingly describes the many places and ideas open to him if he will snuggle in and go to sleep. Beautiful illustrations within and without the chipmunk home provide a fanciful look into the woodland home, creating a sense of warmth and safety within this little nook. Told in rhyme, this story lends itself to young listeners predicting the end of phrases and allows for reader and listener engagement throughout.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in return for a fair and honest review.

Chester Chipmunk Will Not Sleep is a picture book aimed at kids that seems subtly manipulative.

Chester doesn't want go to to bed because there are so many things he wants to do, like play a kazoo and build a rocket big enough for a moose. His mother gets him to go to bed by promising him all sorts of even better adventures in his dreams.

While the overall idea is sweet, I can't help but feel that it's a little manipulative. What happens when a kid doesn't experience fantastic dreams about mermaids, juggling hippos, and moonbeams that can be ridden like a bike? Or, worse... what if they have nightmares? The trick that Chester's mom uses on him is liable to only work once. Perhaps, instead of bribing her child with promises of dreams that are unlikely to happen, she should employ some better time management to ensure that Chester gets to do more of the things he wants to do during the day (or, to make it even more simple, teach him some patience by letting him know that he can do his kazoo playing and rocket building tomorrow).

The illustrations are probably my favourite part of this, even if I don't love the story. They're whimsical, charming, and positively luminous in places. The cover illustration doesn't really do the book justice; the interior pictures are far more magical.

Overall, this was just average for me. I'm not a fan of the story, but I'd gladly go back and peruse the illustrations again.

This is a delightful, charming tale about Chester Chipmunk, who does not want to go to bed because he's too excited from the day's activities. I really liked the rhyming throughout the story and the way that the mother persuaded Chester to go to sleep. A really adorable book that I would thoroughly recommend to younger readers.

Unfortunately as I was gifted an promotional e-book through Netgalley, I did not manage to see all of the illustrations - however, those that worked were wonderful and detailed!

Chester Chipmunk Will NOT Sleep is a story written by Kathleen George and illustrated by Louisa Mae. Chester Chipmunk is an absolutely adorable sleepy chipmunk who loves in a tree in the nook of Cherry Hill. It's bedtime, but Chester just does not want to go to bed because he wants to stay up and play. Who as parents has not had a child who tried to get out of going to bed at bedtime? This beautifully illustrated story shows Chester that he can have many adventures while he sleeps because he will be able to dream. The ability to dream makes him a lucky boy, but he can only experience this magic when he goes to sleep. I love this and think this would be a perfect bedtime story for any little one who might claim that they are not ready for bedtime.
