This is a good basic compilation of hand lettering projects, but it fell a little flat for me. Most of the projects involve buying something new and then stenciling/painting something like your name or a short quote on it. The only project that appealed to me was one using the glass and frame from a photo frame and writing a message on it (welcome to our wedding or something) and using that as a decoration, but even that just seemed a little like making clutter. I don't know. Perhaps I just wasn't in the proper mood for it, though I tend to really like this sort of book. I always tend to lean towards repurposing objects rather than just buying new stuff, though, and would have liked more creative ideas. Let's write a big quote on the wall or use stuff from the recycling bin to make cute little garden markers or something like that, not buy a wooden tray and then stencil your name on it.
There are a few generic stencils in the book (think name tag shapes and small banners) and some basic information about strokes, but it doesn't go into how to do the letters really. The author said to get her first book on lettering for those instructions. Nice color photographs are provided throughout, and step-by-step instructions. If you are the type to just head to Hobby Lobby and buy a bunch of pre-made materials and follow a generic pattern, this will be a great guide.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

This is a beautiful DYI book. It gives so many ideas on how to decorate items or re-purpose them. The instructions on how to hand letter projects is very well written. For those who don't feel confident about their hand writing skills can use the book as ideas to use with their cutting machine and vinyl.. Good book that should be in every public library collection.

Lovely ideas how to put your new handlettering skills to practical use! 15 of them in total, including working on wooden serving trays, cake and cupcake toppers, denim jacket besides the mandatory envelopes and cards.
Clear step-by-step instructions with photographs at each stage are given for every project, so you know exactly how to complete a project.
Maybe not so much a book that teaches handlettering but there are a few pages to refresh what you already know.
Handletterers can literally write on any surface that stands still for a while...these are great starters! A great gift to show a newbie that the possibilities are actually endless! Chock full of beautiful photographs with just enough text.
Thank you Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for this ARC. This is my honest review.

I really liked this book there are tons of project ideas which are explained fairly well if your already good at calligraphy.
If you're looking to find ways to add a personal touch to your projects this book is for you.
Each project has a list of recommended pens, markers, and tools to complete the projects. Most of the supplies listed are inexpensive and easy to find at your local hobby shop. This book makes me wish I had mad calligraphy skills so I could dive right in. My aunt is amazing at calligraphy and I have always admired her beautiful cards and handwritten notes
I plan to refer to this book often as I try to learn hiw to do this. The pictures are fantastic and I love the variety of ideas.
I received this book from NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for an honest review.

I really liked this book. I love modern calligraphy and this book is for people like me. There are so many incredible project ideas which are easy to implement and they are explained very well. Before referring to this book one must be very good in calligraphy.

Super Simple Hand Lettering Projects. The title may be a bit of a misnomer. It is light on the lettering basics but does include several projects however they may not be as simple as they seem. Pretty to look, reminiscent of a quick flick through an IG feed, but not quite enough detail to serve as a step by step guide for lettering beginners. Still, it can serve as inspiration for DIYers with a defined project.

This book is absolutely exquisite! The photos are beautiful and inspiring. The projects are super fresh, creative and there are clear instructions and images to accompany them. I love the variety of styles, projects, tips, materials and inspiration!

Super Simple Hand Lettering Projects
Techniques and Craft Projects Using Hand Lettering
by Kiley Bennett
I was disappointed there was not more specific information on the tools and how to letter on the specific surfaces. For example, using paint or ink on wood bleeds. Using modpodge on the wood first allows you to write without the ink/paint to bleed. The list of tools were alright but giving the different attributes from one ink or paint form to another would be helpful. For example archival inks are waterproof but the acrylic paint pens will wipe off with water. The projects are cute but more information would have made this book stand out and be more useful. On its own it is just a flip through quick and put aside kind of book.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC. All opinions are my own.
I love Kiley Bennet's handwriting. This book focuses on how to use your handwriting to create gifts and home projects. I really appreciate her guide on pens and before each project in her book, she includes what tools and pens are needed. Lots of great helpful pictures to help understand the steps. Bennet also includes some blank templates at the back of the book.
I am really inspired to create more projects and use my handwriting in fun, encouraging ways!

If you're looking to add that personal touch to small details, this book is for you. If you're a bride looking to add signs and table toppers, then this book is for you. If you're looking to spruce up your wall with chalkboard signs, then this book is for you. If you're looking for new ideas for hand lettering, then look no further.
As a calligrapher, what I love about this book were the beautiful visuals that accompanied each project. Each project had the recommended pens, markers, and tools to complete each project. What's great is that the tools are inexpensive and they are easy to find at your local hobby shop.
The only thing that I would change would be using a hi-polymer eraser as this does not leave streaks.
I am looking forward to dappling in clay tags, making unique wrapping paper, and designing trendy ornaments.
Thank you to Kiley Bennett, the publisher, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Lovely little book packed full of lettering projects to have a go at. Good clear photos to illustrate the process and advice about different pens and how the effect lettering. My one problem is always the same with calligraphy books. I write with my left hand and so cannot easily get the same results as a right handed person. No solutions or advice is give in this book to help left handers!
