Hand Drawn Vancouver is a lovely volume of sketches and historical anecdotes about well-known (and not-so-well-known) locations around the titular city. There are many tidbits to be gleaned from this book, including quotes from conversations overheard by or had with the artist-author. As such, this is not your standard look at Vancouver and is much more interesting. A recommended read for Vancouverites as well as those looking for a fun and different take on the city.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Penguin Random House, and Appetite for the ARC in exchange for an honest review of Hand Drawn Vancouver by Emma FitzGerald. I thought this was a delightful book on FitzGerald's Vancouver. I came across this by chance because while I love art and illustration books, Vancouver is a place where I want to be able to live at some point. This book gave me an overwhelming since of FOMO and I wish I was able to teleport to Vancouver from the United States. Putting all of my feelings of longing aside, I thought this was cute and fun. I enjoyed the personal stories about different landmarks and locations around the city. This made Vancouver even more special and I can't wait to be able to go.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC. All opinions are my own.

If you are wanting to travel to Vancouver or don't have the funds to get you there, Hand Drawn Vancouver is the perfect book for you. It is full of facts, history, and FitzGerald's illustrations to take you on a comprehensive tour of a magical city. There was so much I learned about Vancouver and just from reading this, I've add the city to my travel list! FitzGerald does a beautiful job complimenting interesting facts with her pictures.

Check this book out when you are looking to escape your city and be enchanted!

In these days of pandemic, it's been months since I've been more than a few hundred meters from my home in Vancouver, so it was a true delight to travel virtually with Emma Fitzgerald through the neighbourhoods I know and love so well.

Fitzgerald's illustrations are delightful, and her images and their accompanying anecdotes truly capture our diverse and beloved city. Recommended for everyone who loves Vancouver--residents and visitors alike.
