For fans of The Great Gatsby, this is a must have! I downloaded right away from Netgalley and began reading.
.
The graphics are beautiful and the attention to detail is superb. Sometimes, when classics are turned into graphic novels, the essence of the classic can fall away, however, this is not the case here!
.
Your favorite lines, the alluring appeal of East and West Egg are all found in this gem of a book. I can't wait to add the final copy to my classics collection.

Thank you so much to Scribner and Netgalley for my early edition copy!

What we find in The Great Gatsby graphic novel is the union of F. Scott Fitzgerald's beautiful words, memorable story, and the affordances of lovely artwork as a way of conveying the narrative. I can see this book as an addition to a family library, and a wonderful companion piece in an English classroom focused on the ways that authors tell their stories. Amazing work that is powerful in both word and image.

I did not enjoy this adaptation of The Great Gatsby. I thought the illustrations were subpar. They weren't as colorful as I was hoping for and were a lot of the same throughout the book. In this particular ARC, the words were not in the speech bubbles like they should have been, so that may have affected my reading, but I thought there were way too many words in this "graphic novel". If I wanted the full story, I would have just picked up the actual book!

This was a great recreation of the original classic! Thanks again to NetGalley and Scribner for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for feedback.

This graphic novel provided a great illustrated version of the classic that I’ve both read and watched. I know of Fred Fordham’s other work with another great take on a classic, so I was excited to see what his take on Gatsby would look like. I was taken back in time with Gatsby, Nick, Daisy, and everyone else and was reintroduced to the famous lines that we all know and love. If you haven’t read the original book, you should give it a try and then check this one out! I know what was going to happen, but this graphic novel made it interesting for me the entire way through ☺️

I am very on board with classics being adapted into graphic novels. In terms of the text/pacing, this was really well done. However, the art really didn't live up to what I would expect. In particular, the characters and their facial expressions were very flat in a way that took away much of the emotion you'd expect to experience throughout this story.

The move for classic novels to be turned into graphic novels isn't new, but is currently taking a major hold in the publishing world. The graphic novel of The Great Gatsby is beautifully illustrated, having the ability to grasp the illustrative words that Fitzgerald offers in the original work. Fordham did a great job of holding true to the original plot, and not try to change the novel itself to make it have more of a modern feel. A side note should be that the reader should read the original novel of The Great Gatsby prior to tackling this work, to really get a feel of what Fordham is conveying. Perfect for middle grade readers that are reluctant to start classics!

If you've ever wanted to read the classic "The Great Gatsby" but wasn't sure if you could make it through the entire novel, this graphic novel is for you! The illustrations are beautiful, and it is very easy to read. I enjoyed parts of the book, but wasn't a fan of the overall plot.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

A fun adaptation of one of my all time favorite novels.

I enjoy seeing the classics adapted into graphic novels, and this one was no exception.

Fordham did well adapting the text, preserving the spirit of the original novel while distilling it down to what fits with telling the story via this form of media.

It’s not a substitute for reading F. Scott Fitzgerald’s great novel (I’d recommend doing so before reading this if you haven’t already), but it’s a fun and fresh take for those who hold the book dear.

The feel and spirit of the art is good—The color palette, deco-esque style, and small details are evocative of the world of the original novel.

The facial renderings, however, are cringily bad. Morton did alright with hair, bodies, eyes, but the mouths and noses and facial structure of the characters are terribly homogenous and childish in a way that doesn’t feel appropriately intentional or charming. In other words, that component of the art is just poorly done, and it distracts from the more positive elements of the art and as a result from the graphic novel as a whole.
