This was a super fun little picture book. I liked learning all about the different mermaid myths and legends from around the world. It was really interesting to learn about. I loved the illustrations, they were beautiful. I will caution parents to read this before reading to a little one because some of it was scary or graphic. I think this would be great for a child who loves mermaids!

This was an absolute treasure trove! It was gorgeously illustrated and the maps of merfolk across the world were stunning. It was a welcome departure from Eurocentric tales.

I enjoyed that the text was split by continent which allowed you the time and space to explore their merfolk.
There was sufficient text and detail to interest older children, and there’s an impressive amount of detail despite the short page count.

The cohesion between the narrative and the illustrations is what really makes this piece flourish!

This book is both adorable and informative.
Set out by continent it gives a brief overview of some of the mermaids you can find in the area and I absolutely love that it also includes bonus sections on things like magic and their homes. It really adds to the overall experience and is something not usually included in this kind of book.

A beautifu ticket t mtravel all around the world and mee some of the most amazing creatures:mermaids!

A great convination of amazing full page illustrations and summarized folklor tales from around the globe, allows this book to not only inform but also creates an enjoyable experience that you can share with young and old or, even, for yourself alone!!

A great tool that allows us to merge the fantastic world of mythical creatures with our suroundings (who knows, maybe you live near the home of one of this magnificent creatures!)

It can also become a great source for teaching geography and thematic maps or general shared aspects of different cultures.

I only wished it had been longer and had explore with more extension more of the creatures.

An ARC of this book was kindly provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book!

I have a passion for mythology and folklore and this book was perfect

I liked the sections and how they were split down to the different countries and then again to the specific myths, tales and folklore – it really is a book that makes you wonder what could be out there are they have been some fairly recent sightings of mermaids or fish folk too

It is 5 stars from me for this one, well written, punchy facts and loved the illustrations too – very highly recommended and a great introduction to make you want to go away and read more about these creatures!

This beautiful collection of mermaid mythology and stories did not disappoint! I loved the atlas format as a way of exploring the tales from various cultures. The way the stories and information was presented is in a format appealing for both younger readers and adults alike. Every page was filled with the most whimsical gorgeous artwork. This will definitely be added to my list of classroom recommendations. Loved it!

Mythopedia was full of beautiful illustrations, so I was interested in the publisher’s other book, in this mermaid book, as well. I didn’t regret reading it, maybe I loved it more than Mythopedia. I can imagine as the mermaid special edition for Mythopedia.
The book was divided into continents, each with a map of mermaids. Each mermaid was illustrated and has some facts attached to it. There wasn’t too much text so I couldn’t get bored, but I learned something about each one. What I didn’t like was that a lot of mermaids were similar, so sometimes I felt repetitive.
Overall it was good, I would like a copy on my shelf as well.

Thank you Laurence King Publishing for giving me free access to this ebook via Netgalley in exchange for my impartial review.

I really enjoyed this one, because I'm a lover of mermaids and a lot of things in the fantasy realm. I loved that this book brought together so many mermaid myths and legends from all over the world, and entries were grouped according to continent. I loved the illustrations and the maps that were added to every continent category.

I was really excited to read about Yemoja and Mami Wata - Nigerian mermaids. I also loved learning about new mermaid tales from all over the world.

My only problem with this was the extremely tiny font. This is supposed to be a children's book, and I had to keep zooming a lot to read the text. Hopefully, it's a lot bigger in a physical copy.

This was really exciting to read and I'll definitely keep going back to it.

I have loved mermaids and their tales since I was a wee one. For a brief period of time, I even believed that I would grow up to be a mermaid. With a career Navy Gramps, I wholeheartedly believed that mermaids are real as he told my Mum many a time that the merpeople do indeed exist. Perhaps Gramps just wanted to keep the dream alive. This book is as magical as it is mythical. The pictures are absolutely stunning, and the information pertaining to various mermaids of the world is equally breaktaking. Oh, how I wish Gramps was alive today so I could share this book with him. For me, The Mermaid Atlas was not only filled with magic, it was jam packed with nostalgia.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the author for providing me with the ARC.

The Mermaid Atlas by Anna Claybourne is a delightful book that covers everything about merfolk of the world. All the myths, fables associated with mermaids and similar creatures are explained in such a fun and easy to read way.

But I must say that the best part about the book was the illustrations. Colourful and whimsical at the same time, they made the myths even more compelling to read.

I would recommend this to everyone.

The Mermaid Atlas is a whimsical collection of gorgeously illustrated fictional folklore.

Each page is bursting with colorful information about merfolk, their locations, appearance, and lore. There are numerous real-world locations in which mermaid sitings are mentioned, which is exciting for little ones. My daughter very much enjoyed skimming the pages. We would love to have this in her library. It’s the perfect length for young readers.

A delightful book all in all!

Thanks to NetGalley for the review copy of this book!
