🏰👻Good mix of paranormal mystery & romance with a Highland setting👀

I found this plotline refreshingly out of the ordinary, with a tragic story from a century before impacting on the present in a castle near Inverness, Scotland. Though there were a few slow spots, the preponderance of the book was an effective mix of romance and murder mystery WITH GHOSTS! The spirits played a major role and their origin story is revealed slowly by chapters returning to WWI and 1920 alternating with the spate of ghost sightings, deaths and threats in the present-day castle that houses a rest home for seniors.

Although this is the third novel in a series about three American gal pals finding specters and their Scottish mates I did not read the earlier two and found this, minus a few references to lead female nurse Colleen's friends' adventures and husbands, a true standalone with a joyful, party conclusion for all three Americans and even closure for the ghosts. Nonogenerian committed to achieving centenarian status Gordon is a plucky, fun side character as are the Owls, A quartet of elderly fellow residents where Colleen lives. In fact, this story celebrates seniors and I really liked that aspect.

Colleen's romantic story features mild heat of the kissing and closed bedroom door kind. This little lady keeps falling for "her type" and suffering the consequences. It's maybe a good thing she's got ghosts and dying patients and colleagues to distract her until she finally gets it right! There's also a tragic love story in the past to tug at the heartstrings.

The mystery part had so many possible suspects that I really needed the ranting big reveal which filled in the whole picture marvelously.

I enjoyed it🙂.

This was an engrossing historical romance, The story opens with nurse Colleen desperately in love with her attractive doctor boyfriend, only to discover he's married. Unfortunately for Colleen, his wife is the daughter of the health system's CEO where she works, and the jealous wife causes Colleen to lose her job. A heartbroken Collen moves to Scotland, where she is able to find work as a nurse at a gorgeous, haunted castle turned nursing home.

Not long after Colleen arrives in Scotland, someone starts murdering the elderly patients, There is evil in the castle and ghost stories and rumors abound, Can Collen and her friends solve the murder before it's too late for them all?

I really loved Collen and Aiden as characters, and the plot and murder mystery was engrossing. I sometimes struggled to immerse myself in some of the historical POVs and other narrators – Collen was definitely my favorite.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book very scary and I couldn't put it down. Dejected, betrayed, without a job and blackballed. The main character heads to Scotland to find a new job and start a new life. Following her through exploring her new job at a haunted castle and developing relationships with the people she works with. This book is a page turner and deeply frightening.

I loved the Healer's legacy. I loved the romance and the mystery part. I was a little confused about 2 characters. I kept messing them up until half way through. I think the ghost aspect was creapy amd it fit perfectly.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and I absolutely loved it. This is book three in a trilogy about 3 American friends who find love and ghosts in Scotland. In each book, the author does a grand job weaving together two stories. One takes place in the present while the second tale describes the life of the ghost left behind. i enjoyed the mystery, the setting, and the characters.
These are well-developed and entertaining stories. I would recommend that they be read in order.

The Healer's Legacy by M MacKinnon I enjoyed since I started reading the book. From the first paragraph the storyline intrigues the writer in such a way, one continues to read until you cannot stay awake anymore. The amazing story about a woman named Colleen Fitzgerald who experienced intense heartaches and drastically wanted to find meaning in her life makes the reader feel part of the events. The story background using a "spooky" castle embraces the deep challenges experienced by Colleen in an uncertain nursing environment. The story allows the reader to feel anxious, happy and sad at the same time. I love the different characters displayed in the book and the manner they link to each other. Any reader looking for a good quality fictional book with a great and different love story and life events should invest in the Healer's Legacy.

This is what my dad would call Lady Novels. A young American nurse moves to Scotland to go and work in a nursing home that is located in an old castle. The castle is rumoured to be inhabited by the ghost of a nurse who hanged herself during WW1. There is an evil in the castle for sure and people start dying.

This novel is a mix of romance that blends into a paranormal detective story. A quick and easy read that in my opinion got better in the second half. It felt like it is a book in a series what caused a lot of guessing about who is who sometimes and because it hints at the other plots reading those stories is out of the question as we know know the culprits in those.

I didn't realize this was part of a trilogy. I orginally was not going to read since I didn't read the other two books, but gave it a shot. I love the setting of Scotland. I enjoyed the different elements of paranormal, love and history. Just wished I had read the first two.

When I requested this book, I did not realize that is was part of a series, the good news is this book can be read as a stand alone. The better news, it was a great read.

The book follows Colleen a nurse who is slightly flighty and always looking for love, in all the wrong places. Well she finds love, or lust in all the wrong places and loses her job as a nurse at the hospital she works at. Bad idea to have an affair with boss’s daughter’s husband.

Luckily for Colleen she has two best friends in Scotland that she can run to and that is where the story picks up. Colleen gets a job at a castle turned nursing home that comes with it’s own resident ghosts. The story reminded me of the gothics I read as a teenager but with more depth and less damsel in distress drama. A great read for anyone who likes, castles, Scotland, and ghosts!

Thanks to Netgalley and the author M Mackinnon for the chance to read and review this book

Quick read. Having been in Scotland on numerous times, I like to read anything set there. I found it to to be enjoyable but probably would not recommend..

I would rate this a solid 4 stars! This is a nice, easy romance .... with a splash of mystery added! There is no violence or sex in this book, so it would be appropriate for young readers! Even though there is murder in the book, the author does not go into detail and the incidents are glossed over. I was a little annoyed with the main character, Colleen at the beginning, as she fell back into pattern rather quickly (you would think she learned her lesson!!) ...but she did redeem herself towards the end of the book! It was the secondary characters that really held my attention ...I quite enjoyed reading about them! It was the Epilogue that moved me the most and upped my rating from a 3 to a 4 star! Without giving details ...it gave the book it's richly deserved HEA! I would recommend this book for readers who want an nice and easy romance ...some fluff to read on holidays or to young adults forging into romance! I would look forward to reading more from this author in the future!

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in return for an honest and unbiased opinion of his book

This book was a great surprise! It was MY KIND OF BOOK! Time travel at its best! Spectacular plot, romance and a great writing on top of it! I was not familiar with the author, and I was worried this book is number three in series, but that does not matter. It can be read alone. I love highlander books, I read many of them - this one will be not only memorable, but also recommended to family and friends.
The author wrote books one and two, and I am planning to not only read them, but also include this author in my favorite top 10 authors of all times!!!!!

The perfect book to read with a glass of wine in front of the fire on a rainy night. Green and pleasant Scotland. Handsome men in kilts. A haunted castle. Murder. Time travel. A timeless romance. And a satisfying ending.

Gothic romance novels played a big part in my development as a reader, so I was excited to read The Healer's Legacy since it combines some of my favorite things - ghosts, a mystery, a romance, and Scotland. I found a very pleasant, well-told story with some memorable characters. This is the 1970s gothic updated for 2020, with modern settings and language, but a very familiar plot. Our heroine gets burned by a rotten, cheating scoundrel and retreats to a remote castle/country house in another country to lick her wounds. Once there, she stumbles into some sort of historical mystery involving the supernatural and a surly man who eventually becomes her love interest.

While nothing new, plot-wise, MacKinnon delivers a fun and engaging story that will appeal to romantic mystery fans.

The Healer’s Legacy by M. Mackinnon

The plot of the story was very interesting. Colleen Fitzgerald has terrible luck when it comes to love. So terrible in fact, that she fell for a man who cost her her job. Colleen, a.k.a Fitz, fell for a beautiful blond hair, blue eye doctor who just seemed to be “the one.” Low and behold he was not. In fact, he was married to the CEO of the hospital’s daughter. Well, the wife found out about her husband’s unfaithfulness and went to directly address Fitz. Fitz had absolutely no idea (she’s a little air headed and love drunk). Out of spite, the wife told Fitz she would ruin her. That she would make it so she could never work as a nurse again. When Fitz went back into work, she was called into the CEO’s office and accused of stealing her patients medicine for her own use. Her career as a nurse was over…

Fitz needed to get away. Far away. Luckily for her, her two best friends lived in Scotland. Luckily for her, and with help from a few locals, she was able to find a job as a nurse in a nursing home. This nursing home had just opened up a few years ago under the owner Graham Anderson. Closed since just after WWI, Balfinnan House was a castle with a ton of secrets passed from generation to generation of Anderson’s until one of them decided to use it and restore it.

Oh, and the castle just so happens to be haunted by a couple ghosts. One called “The Grey Lady,” who is there to help souls pass peacefully after hers was taken so abruptly, and one called “Ghruamachd” who steals the souls like the grim reaper.

“The Healer’s Legacy” is the third book in the Highland Spirit’s series but could be read alone as well. I have not read the other books in this series; however, I was able to easily read and follow along with no problem.
The only thing I did not like about this book was the multiple perspectives. I found them hard to follow, and sometimes I did not know which character’s perspective I was reading from. Other than that, this book is full of mystery, history, romance, and thrill.

My favorite aspect of “The Healer’s Legacy” was definitely the culture that’s presented. The accents of the locals were so clear it was as if I could hear them fluently in my head. The Scottish landscapes and heritage were also clear as day, and it greatly contributed to the books appeal.

Overall, I would give this book 4 stars. I enjoyed it, but I would have enjoyed it more if the character’s perspectives were a little more organized.

Thank you, Net Galley and M. Mackinnon, for providing me this ARC. I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

What a wonderful story. So full of emotions, love and caring. Colleen Fitzgerald is a nurse and has trouble finding a decent man who is not married, cheating or a sundry of other feelings. She always picks the same type in looks and it seems to betray her. She is caring, empathic and very good at her job. Her two best friends moved to Scotland and married. She decides to join them. She gets a job at Balfinnan Castle and takes care of the geriatric set.
Aidan Shaw is one of the men that seem to interest her. Did I forget to tell you about the Ghosts? He is a Preservation Architect. He restores castles or whatever like they were before. He is also friends with the owner of the castle, Graham Anderson.
There are a lot of happenings in this book. It is a very good mystery. I read it in one sitting but you can take more time if you need it. It is very well written, easy to read and of course, it is entertaining. The characters are wonderful and so engaging. I look forward to reading some more of her novels.
