The Arrow of Apollo

I struggled with this book and I am not sure why....I started it and couldn't get into it and then put it aside and came back to it.
It just didn't grab me.  I am so interested in Ancient History and especially Sparta and Troy but for a reason I can't explain I struggled with this as a whole.

I didn't connect to the characters and the story didn't flow for me.   I can also recognise this is a brilliantly researched and thoughtful story...just because it didn't appeal to me, I am sure that it will appeal to others who love history.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting characters. Intriguing plot. Dynamic prose. My attention was held the entire time. I enjoyed my time reading this one. I’d suggest this story to everyone who likes magic with the gods.

When a dark force, Python, is rising and rallying an army, Silvius and Elissa are tasked by a centaur to restore the Arrow of Apollo to save the world. On their journey they meet Tisamenos, who is facing dangers of his own. Will the three of them together be able to defeat Python?

The Arrow of Apollo is an enjoyable and interesting story immersed in Greek and Roman Mythology. The worldbuilding is done well and the characters are layered and each have their own purpose to deal with which makes reading from their different POV compelling. Once the three main characters meet up halfway through the story picks up the pace and the stakes get higher. Even though the ending felt a bit weak and rushed, it was still satisfying.

If you enjoy stories immersed in Greek and Roman mythology, then this read is for you.

It was an interesting and well researched story that I found enjoyable and engrossing.
Even if it's a bit confused at the beginning once you understand who is related to whom you are hooked and the plot flows.
The characters are fleshed out and the descriptions of the historical background are vivid.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I picked up this book because I had read and loved Percy Jackson when I was younger. However, this book was very different from what I was expecting. While Greek/Roman mythology played a major role, it was actually set in a time period where people believed in them. I like that aspect of the book, along with the rivalry between the two countries. It felt very realistic and I appreciated how much research probably went into this book. But I felt like I lacked a connection with the characters and the plot. 70% through, where normally books are super fast paced and action packed, I had to force myself to keep reading. My only other qualm was that the beginning was convoluted with tons of long ancient names - which were hard to remember when you have three characters and you’re expected to remember the names of all their family members and whom them hold grudges against. It took me 4 or 5 chapters to put the family trees together in my head. It has three POVs which I really liked, especially when they eventually come together. I would recommend if you’re super into Ancient Greek/Roman mythology.
