A private school's lecherous lawyer has been bashed over the head, and the headmaster's impulsive wife, Ginger, meddles in the murder investigation. Ginger is concerned that unless the murder is quickly solved, the struggling school will have to close its doors.

I enjoyed the description of the characters, the backstory of how Ginger's father encouraged and shaped her predilection for action, and the twist of being provided an alternative ending, which the author apparently reimagined as she readied the book for reissuance. I had some impatience with Ginger, as she sometimes acts without thought of consequences, including for herself and her family.

Very well written "amateur sleuth procedural" with great characters and a good plot. It's very easy and entertaining to read, even though I find the disposition at the beginning a little messy.

I will admit I found Ginger to be incredibly rude. That in itself made the book a struggle for me to read. On the other hand I did enjoy the ending so the book rates a high 3 for me. Maybe a touch more action and less rudeness would help me out.

I wasn't wowed by this book. Ginger, the main character, at times is a bit rude. I enjoyed the supporting characters. I just felt like it needed more "chapter action" - something, anything, to make me want to keep going instead of putting it down and not missing it too much while I was away. But otherwise a cozy story.
