This book is a great step toward independence for teens who haven't spent much time in the kitchen. It's colorful and easy to follow, so teens who are actually willing to try it should find success. It includes quite a bit of dairy, but most teens love cheese so for most that shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review. I purchased a copy for my library.

I know this book is for beginners, but some of these recipes seemed too simplistic or rudimentary. Will be interested to try it out with actual teens and see it they find it valuable, though.

I found this cookbook to be a great resource for not only teens but also young adults and anyone just starting to figure out how to cook. It was very comprehensive and covered everything from how to properly and safely cut food to how to actually prepare the dishes.

The first section of the book was very helpful and created a solid base for beginners. It went into detail about various cooking terms as well as utensils/tools and their uses. Plus, it showed how to cut safely into food--something that I haven't really seen covered in other books and I thought it was a great addition.

As for the actual recipes, I felt like there was more than a decent range for new cooks. There were recipes for breakfast, snacks, soups, solo meats, family meals, and desserts. And among those categories there were recipes ranging from beginner and intermediate to some that were a bit more challenging for more experienced cooks.

I think the directions for the recipes were very detailed and more than enough for beginners to follow along; however, I think it would've been very beneficial to include pictures of the dishes for every recipe considering it was a cookbook for beginners. I think that was really the only thing that this book was missing.

Overall, this is a great starting point for young cooks and I strongly recommend it!

I saved a few recipes to try and make. Although I am now 25 i think the layout of the book as well as the simplicity of the instructions will help.
I also ordered a finished copy for my cousin who is 18 and living on her own.

The recipes aren`t complex so it gives the reader a boost of confidence that they too can cook.

This is a perfect title for this moment.  If you are all cooped up at home and know a teen who could use an activity (and feed you), this one is worth a look.  It also is a useful resource for anyone who is trying to learn to prepare a meal.

The book includes 100 recipes divided into categories including Breakfast, Snacks and Sides, Soups and Salads, Solo Meals and Family Meals.  Some examples from the Family Meals section are Mustard and Maple Glazed Chicken, Easy Chicken Tetrazzini and Homemade Chicken Pot Pie.  At the other end of the day, a few of the breakfast recipes include Banana Brea, Breakfast Tacos and a Green Chile Casserole.

The cookbook has lots of photographs and the directions are easy to follow.  I call this one a winner!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

This Cookbook is SO easy to use and understand. I am not a teen myself, but I am a beginner cook. These recipes were easy to understand and they are "basic" enough that many picky eaters would be happy. This book covers everything from boiling an egg to simmering Zuppa Toscana (which you need to make ASAP if you have never had). This is a great book for teens and beginner cooks alike.

My son really liked looking through this cookbook and getting ideas of what to try to learn to cook during this pandemic. He's a picky eater, but this had recipes that appealed to him and were easy enough for his pre-teen skills to do with minimal supervision or help. A handy book for homes with teens who are about to fly the coop and need to learn the basics. Get this one, and use it as a guide during this quarantine to teach them well.

This is a really solid little cookbook and I think it would be a great option for teens! I can definitely see getting a copy of this for my YA collection because it has so many good basics, and I love that it also includes some basic techniques and definitions in the beginning. I could even see cooking a lot of these recipes for myself as an adult! They're not overly simplified just to market the book to a younger audience, which is great as it shows that the author clearly understands teens can be excellent cooks. I also appreciate how much of the book focused on family recipes, rather than single servings, since many teens want to cook for their families or have to feed their younger siblings dinner. All in all, it's a good cookbook! My only complaint is that I think it needs more recipe photos.

Book has good info and is written well to explain kitchen skills, terms, equipment, and recipes to teens (or others) who are unfamiliar with cooking. The introduction mentions exposing the reader to new flavors, but with few exceptions I found the recipes to be for things many people would be familiar with (which could be a good thing). A lot of the recipes I would classify as comfort food. Chapters are breakfast, snacks and sides, soups and salads, solo meals, family meals, and desserts. I think this would be a good book for a teen to prepare them for cooking and get them comfortable with it before living on their own later. There is a single photograph to start each chapter. Especially with a book geared towards beginner cooks, additional photographs would help with selecting dishes to make and show them an idea of what the results should be, since lots of cooking can be subjective.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
