Finding Freedom is written by Jarvis Jay Masters as he sits on death row in San Quentin State Prison for the murder of a correction’s officer. Jarvis has been on death row for over 30 years and has been tirelessly working for an appeal on his case as he has always claimed innocence for the crime he was convicted of.

This book is his personal account of how he got here as well as his journey towards Buddhism that awakened in him great strength, calm, peace, and insight.

Not only is this book an interesting read, but a testament to what a person can go through and come out the other end with a better outlook and still keep working for what is best. It is inspirational and encourages us to re-evaluate what we might easily write off about ourselves and others.

Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The author wrote this book while on Death Row at San Quentin prison. His raw and honest writing about his prison experience is heartbreaking at times, as well as knowing that he was predestined to end up there due to being someone that society wrote off after enduring an upbringing of abuse, drugs, addiction, and other things I cannot imagine experiencing.
