Bruno and Isabelle reunite to solve the mystery of oyster theft, but the story is really short, and not in St. Denis.. I'm a big fan of the Bruno series, but I'll stick to the full length novels.

The Oystercatcher by Martin Walker is a Vintage Short Original and it provides a snapshot of the life of one Inspector Bruno Courreges, a police chief in rural France. Bruno enjoys his job, fine wine, good food, his dog, and many varied friendships. In the Oystercatcher, Bruno is pressed into service to help catch oyster thieves operating in the Bay of Arcachon. And, with his usual determination, Bruno helps solve the mystery of the thefts.

The Oystercatcher is a quick read that will give the reader an introduction to Bruno and his world. While this is a good start, I recommend reading the Dordogne Mysteries. It will be time well-spent with Inspector Bruno in the lovely French countryside.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

This is my first encounter with Inspector Bruno, but I just bought Bruno, Chief of Police because I want to know more about the man and his lover Isabelle. This story is about a stakeout involving oyster thieves and though the ending is somewhat predictable, I still enjoyed it. However, I wanted to know more about the people on the boat--this is all I can say without spoiling it.
