Appreciate the science-backed references and studies for this book. Shawn’s personal health struggles since childhood and desire to learn and question things, like “what is my spine made of anyway?” carry throughout the book. He also adds his personality in an authentic way, lightening the potentially dry sections with humour and pop culture. If you’ve read a lot about nutrition, this is stop a good refresher, and an approachable starting point for those who haven’t. The bonus resources include recipes, and for maybe the first time, ALL of them sound delicious and like things you would realistically make for yourself and your family.

This book was a great self help book. It taught me how to think about what I was doing rather than unconsciously doing.

This is a very informational book, that talks about the food macros (fats, carbs, protein), calorie intake, different food groups, healthy eating, techniques like intermittent fasting, There is a lot of information in this book, which can get overwhelming and discouraging to go on. Also, I normally eat healthily and was aware of most of the things that the book talks about, so there wasn't much value in it for me personally. But for someone starting out on the journey of fitness or healthy eating, this book can be helpful.

Thank you NetGalley for this e-ARC.

Shawn Stevenson delves deep into the science of how our bodies work in Eat Smarter, but he doesn't speak over the heads of those who might be new to some of the more technical aspects of metabolic processes and function. As always, he writes with humor in a relatable, while authoritative voice. He helps readers get out of the simplified thinking of "calories in vs calories out" to understand the complexity of the human body and how we can best be stewards of our own, unique one. The advice is spot-on and the recipes look interesting, delicious, and easy to make. He teaches readers how to tailor their nutrition to their body's own needs.

It is more informational but does have some recipes at the end. It talks about different types of fat, calories, cherries, seeds, almonds, other foods, intermittent fasting and more. So if you want that aspect it is a book to look into.

it's a very long book and I found it overwhelming. There's a lot of information but it's not too organized. I tried to read some topics and my eyes got tired and I had a hard time trying to understand some of the topics. I would use this book if I needed to check something about some specific food but I wouldn't read all this unfortunately. I do eat healthy and smart most of the time and when someone is trying to change their lifestyle they would probably look for a book that is more organized and goes straight to the point or maybe has some pictures and/or use of colors to make the book more fun to read. The information is good and there's a lot of things to read about but just not my favorite unfortunately. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

Definitely inspired me to eat better and focus more on what I put into my body. I like the way this book presents the idea
