Emily and Tom are turning out the Halloween themed donuts that keep people coming in. When regular customer, Cheryl, meets her online date, Rich, at the shop, everyone finds the man annoying, even Cheryl. Later in the day, both are back with new dates and things get a little awkward. But Rich invites Cheryl and her date to his birthday party the next day. When Emily arrives to deliver donuts and coffee, she finds Rich dead in the party tent.

With a misty lake, Halloween decorations and spooky thoughts, the scene is set for Emily to sleuth and try to find a murderer so that Brent can attend her Halloween party without a case hanging over his head. But Emily has to hope she won’t become a real ghost for Halloween as she tracks the murderer.

A fun read with a solid whodunit. Well developed characters and lots of suspects and red herrings to keep you changing your mind about the killer until the end. Donuts, cops, and a kitty make it even sweeter.
