Something important to take into account is that this story isn’t told in chronological order.
James Cahill wakes up in the hospital with a severe concussion and memory loss. His girlfriend is missing. Little by little they piece together that they had a massive fight about his infidelity and that she stormed off and called her sister to tell that she was on her way there. She never arrived there. James, who’s known for his wandering eye is the first and main suspect but the timeline doesn’t add up.
The reader knows that Jessica left the house and was taken at gunpoint some time along the road.
We also know that a woman (we assume she’s Megan) is locked up inside a tiny house by someone she used to love. The gender of the captor is very skilfully avoided but I had an inkling that she’s a woman. The only woman that Megan is close to is her sister Rebecca who used to be James’ girlfriend prior to her.
Rebecca has turned up in the small town with the idea that James is behind her sister’s disappearance. But Megan also has a history of disappearing after arguments to punish her boyfriend. So can it be mere drama?
There’s also the fact that James isn’t just hot, handsome and charming but he’s also a very wealthy young man and has much more coming in the future. He’s a true chick magnet and some women seem to be willing to kill for what they claim is theirs. And there are plenty of women who have an eye on him, some of them are weirder than others.
Detective Rivers who’s leading the investigation has a weird 6th sense when he touches objects belonging to suspects and victims. A useful trait that he has to hide from colleagues and superiors. His partner Mendoza notices his kleptomaniac tendency for items belonging to victims/witnesses. Will she tell on him?

Tiny houses must be really hot at the moment because this is the second book this summer that features them. I vouch that if you lived in a bedsit for 10 years, you appreciate the luxury of space a lot more. I seriously doubt that the rich people that purchase such a ‘house on wheels’ (what’s the difference with a camper or RV?) will last very long if they have to live there 24/7 and I’m sure most of them end up being a holiday luxury. The most positive thing about those cramped spaces is that you can’t collect too much clutter and have to be very selective in what you keep and what not. Hey, give me one of those and I won’t complain, though.
I must confess that there aren’t many likeable and sympathetic characters in this story. James is an arrogant and immoral rich man who doesn’t think twice about using and dumping women. The women are controlling, selfish, money-chasing, and jealous. Rebecca and detective Rivers are the most pleasant and relatable characters. James seems to have a change of heart towards the end of the book but the question is how long that will last. But not being a nice person doesn’t indicate that you’re a murderer.
This is one of the great books of 2020. It’s suspense from start to end. Literally everybody can be the culprit. You can’t be certain that the women are genuine when they tell their version of events. All of them have reasons to hurt Megan or to have her disappear. But when she screamed that James would never see her again, could she be alluding on an intentional disappearance like she pulled off in the past? When all things come together near the end, everything turns out even different from everything I imagined.
I can’t stress enough how good and intense this psychological thriller is. Lisa Jackson more than deserves her fame. Really everybody is a suspect in this story. And when someone is cleared, a bit further along something else turns up and that augments the suspicion all over again. I’ll definitely read more by her.
The end is ambiguous as well. There’s a large opening for a sequel somewhere in the future. Being caught doesn’t mean the end of an obsession. But as well, I have the feeling that detective Rivers’ story isn’t finished. He’s got all the qualities needed to carry his own series.
As I found out just now, this book is the 3rd in the series surrounding the Cahill family; so that sequel will no doubt happen. As there were a few things that referred to a tumultuous past, I should have known but it didn’t make a difference for my understanding of this book. If they’re the same quality as this one, it’s a shame to have missed them.
I thank Netgalley and Kensington Books for the free ARC they provided me with and this is my honest, unbiased review of it.

I was pretty excited to see this title on NetGalley. I've read (and enjoyed) a good number of Lisa Jackson books, and this one didn't disappoint. The story had lots of twists and turns, plus a share of gruesome killings. I was expecting a bit more romance, honestly- this book seemed more like a "love gone wrong" type of tale. Or another way to look at it would be a cautionary tale for men who tend to play the field and have commitment issues! I didn't feel terribly sympathetic towards any of the characters, really, but the plot moved along quickly enough that I didn't really mind. One little nit-picky thing that I noticed while reading: Merlot being stored in the fridge? I mean, I guess to each one's own, but it jumped out at me as being strange. But wine storage choices aside, I enjoyed the book and zipped through it quickly. Thanks for the advance read!

Lisa Jackson's You Betrayed Me follows a disappearance and potential kidnapping of the girlfriend of James Cahill... who conveniently has amnesia after an attack in his some. Ms. Jackson mixes with the timeline so the reader knows some of the events before they happen, just not who they are happening to. It's hard to be sympathetic to Mr. Cahill, but the officers involved in the case do their due diligence in their own special ways to work towards a conclusion. This is a good book for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

James playboy life has come to a screeching halt. He is suspected in the disappearance of a woman he had been dating. Another woman has her sights set on him and doesn’t want to give up. The plot was predictable at times but still held my interest. James wasn’t necessarily a likable character. There is a twist at the end that caught me by surprise. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Another suspenseful read by Lisa Jackson. Even though I predicted most of the plot twists it did not ruin the story for me. It was a fast paced page turner and Lisa Jackson never disappoints.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

Lisa Jackson has been writing for years and has been best seller not all are perfect and some of her books feel rushed or dated at times.

The story starts off with a jaded lover wanting to run away from life. Next boyfriend wakes up with no memory and a detective who dislikes him right away. The plot is basic and readers will be able to figure out the whole story before the detectives even step foot into the victims house.

The characters are flat, typical and boring at times. To change things up the author gives the male lead detective a special gift of site that he keeps from his partner. Simple questions are never asked drawing out the obvious part of the story.

"Two and a half days of his life gone. Lost in the black hole of his memory. How had it happened? James had no inkling why he was here, though he was sure he'd been told."

James Cahill's life has turned upside down. Though he can has no idea why he's in the hospital. Things are definitely a mess. Something he does know is that is current girlfriend is missing, his side girl won't leave him alone and the cops are digging into his life.

I enjoyed the changing point of view writing in this story. It definitely kept my attention. The story definitely had twists and turns. It definitely went a way I didn't see coming!

James Cahill is the heir to a fortune. He’s distanced himself from the family that’s been full of scandals. Moving to Washington, to try and make a life on his own. When he wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened or how he got there, he doesn’t know what is going on. Then he’s told his girlfriend, Megan Travers, is missing, whom he can’t remember. And another woman shows up claiming to be dating him. As his memory slowly returns, he realizes he needs to figure out what happened the night of his accident, and where Megan is.

I love all of Lisa Jackson’s books. And this was another good one. This is book three in the Cahill series. This one following James. It’s a fast paced edge of your seat read. It had me drawn in from the start. The characters were all written well, and you could feel what they feel. I’m pretty good I figuring out what’s going on in book, and this book was no exception. Although I didn’t know what was completely happening. And when I found out, I was totally surprised. But knowing, didn’t take away from the book. I recommend this if you enjoy a good mystery.

Twists and turns all the way to the end! I love it when I can’t figure out how it’s going to end. Lisa Jackson is the best at it. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and her publisher for letting me read an advanced copy of You Betrayed Me. Straight up suspense all the way to the end. I know there’s more to come and I can’t wait.

You betrayed Me is book 3 in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I love Lisa Jackson and I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the twists and turns but there were also some slow parts that made we want to skim past them. Overall I would give it three and a half stars.

A rich bad boy's girlfriend disappears and he is the prime suspect. James Cahill has went through many women, and cheated on just as many. His latest girlfriend, Megan, just found out about his girlfriend, on the side, Sophia. She went to stay with her sister, Rebecca, whom he also dated once, but she never made it there. Now James in the hospital with memory problems, and Rebecca is on his trail, trying to figure out what happened to his sister. Throw in an investigative journalist who wants her big break through this story and somewhere, another woman in a locked room, betrayed by someone close and there are plenty of women whom James as wronged. Who made Megan disappear?

This is a good mystery that keeps readers guessing until the very end. I didn't particularly like James and want to spend so much time with him, but there you are.

I usually love a Lisa Jackson book and can't wait to read them when they come out. However, I just could not get immersed in You Betrayed Me and the storyline. I felt myself skimming several pages as the writing and style felt really slow, and the story not engrossing enough to keep my interest.

I normally love any thing that Lisa Jackson writes but I had a very hard time finishing this story line. Honestly, I did not like any of the characters

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a review. I love Lisa Jackson, she has a way with words to keep things moving and twisting. This was the first of this series of that'd I read but that didn't stop me. This book, however didn't flow as her books usually do for me. I still enjoyed it but it just didn't keep my attention as Ms. Jackson's books usually do.

Lisa Jackson brings us another book in the Cahill Family Series. We find a woman trapped and held captive after trusting the wrong person vowing revenge. Then there is James Cahill who finds himself in the hospital with no memory of the recent events in his life; bruises and a concussion; the disappearance of Megan, the most current girlfriend; all while the whole world thinking he had something to do with it. To make matters worse, Megan's sister Rebecca arrives wanting answers and Sophia, the woman he was cheating with wanting an upgrade in his life complicates his life while the police are trying to find evidence against him. All the pieces and evidence start piling up, and they all have James in common. When Rebecca and James decide to team up to find out what happened to Megan, it starts off another chain of events. Will they ever find Megan, or is she up to her old tricks again after finding out James was cheating on her with Sophia? Will Rebecca be able to trust James after all that they went through in the past? Will the trapped woman in the woods be saved and get her revenge after all?

Lisa Jackson gives us a face paced mystery with the clock ticking as Rebecca and James try to find the answers to all of their questions. She makes sure that you are part of the journey, learning bits of information as the characters do to draw you into the story further. Once you start, it is very difficult to put the book down and all you want to do is keep turning the page to see what happens next. I enjoyed this adventure with Rebecca and James and look forward to seeing what happens next with the Cahills. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for this privilege.

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have always been a fan of her work, especially the Alvarez and Pescoli series. Unfortunately this book and her last book that I read, I had a hard time finishing. They were too slow going for me, and this one felt like more of a soap opera. With that being said, I look forward to the next Alvarez and Pescoli book.

What a puzzle! So many moving pieces and so many characters who seem to all have a different agenda, all wrapped up in this book.

A storyline with constant surprises and an ending that would come in and out of focus.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've been a Lisa Jackson fan for ages...but this one just didn't cut it for me. She still gives some great twists and turns, but for the most part the story line felt slow and a bit flat. Mainly it was because I didn't like the characters...any of them. too much drama that while it helps the story some, just seemed too over the top and i just wanted to stab some of the characters myself ;)

The writing is solid, the mystery is there. Just overall not a favorite of mine.

I mostly enjoy Lisa Jackson’s skillful writing and her gripping, riveting page turner novels but I think this one has too much daytime soap opera dramas: those vindictive, wild, jealous twenty something women of the story made me agitated: I want to scream at their faces: stop cat fighting and find a decent guy who is not an assholish cheater!
The Cahills reminded me of Ewings meet Dynasty’s Carringtons: rich, powerful, old family of San Francisco with shady past which filled with scandals. And now we’re introduced to young and charming member of the family: we can define him with three words: playboy, pretentious, player: ladies and gentlemen, here’s James Cahill:
His story starts at the hospital: his head is bandaged, attacked by someone, suffering from short time amnesia, remembering small glimpses about the fiery fight he had with a mad woman who scratched his face.

Later we learn that woman was his girlfriend Megan who went ballistic after she finds out he was cheating on her with Sophia: the mysterious blonde who recently visits him at hospital ( interestingly he also doesn’t remember her!) and after her vicious attack Megan leaves the house, pumps up the gas, nearly kills an innocent pedestrian and then she loses the control of the car. As soon as she gathers her composure to leave the car, she realizes there is a black gun aimed to her heart and a man in ski mask standing there to abduct her.

What happened to Megan? Could James be responsible for her abduction? And what about Rebecca who was also in love with James ( oh yes, James seems like more popular than Leo DiCaprio but at least he doesn’t date with underage girls), conducting her own investigation to find what happened to her sister!

The twists are well developed, but I truly hate the guts of the characters and I visualized to throw dart arrows against their foreheads.

Only two best things about the book were Rivers and Mendoza: perfectly developed detective characters.
Grumpy Rivers has special talent to visualize what happened at the crime scenes by touching objects. And Mendoza, smart, effective, straightforward, badass, a great partner to help him to solve the mystery.

Unlikable characters and way too much relationship drama made me cut my points. I still enjoyed twists, fast paced writing and I want to read more adventures of this detective duo but this time I’m giving three stars.

I still love the author’s books but because of the reasons I pointed at I liked this book less than her previous works.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for sharing this exciting ARC with me in exchange my honest opinions.
