Max Meow: Cat Crusader by John Gallagher is a young middle grade graphic novel, similar to Dog Man or the Investigators. The humor is definitely aimed at the six-to-ten year old crowd, and the pictures are colorful and fun. And the premise? Pure silliness.

A cat who hosts a podcast goes to interview his scientist friend in her secret lab. While there, they're attacked by an evil(?) robot, and the cat ends up taking a bite out of a giant space meatball--which turns him into a cat with super powers: he's super strong, he can fly, his tail is electric, and he's always super hungry.

I read through the e-ARC of Max Meow: Cat Crusader with my seven year old. He read some out loud; I read some. We had to go back a page sometimes just to see a funny picture again. We made silly sound effects; we giggled and guffawed. I would definitely say it was a hit, and he gives it two thumbs up!

(Just know going in it's utter ridiculousness, but sometimes, at least in my family's case, that's exactly what a reluctant reader needs to fall in love with reading!)

A fun graphic novel for fans of DogMan. Colorful illustrations and funny text make this an entertaining read. I like that the superhero needed the scientist and her inventions to foil the bad guys.

Superheroes, science and humor you can not go wrong with with the Max Meow series. This is a must buy for any public or school library where the Dog Man graphic novels are popular. Which to my knowledge is everywhere! My library has plans to by multiple copies and to add the series to our standing orders list.

I read this with my son and he thoroughly enjoyed it! The humor was cute and well timed, the illustrations were eye catching and adorable and the story line was the perfect blend of kid humor and things to hold an adult's attention.

We liked the sound effects, the teasers before the end of certain chapters and the time spend crafting the back story of the characters! I would highly recommend this book as a gift or for the graphic novel reading kiddo in your life!

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for a chance to check out "Max Meow." Young readers that are fans of "Dog Man" and the like, will thoroughly enjoy this book (and hopefully many more to come). Bright graphics and entertaining storyline will have kids racing through the pages of this newest superhero tale.

I read this with my 9 year old daughter and we both loved it! She is a reluctant reader that will choose graphic novels over chapter books any day of the week. She typically reads Dog Man, Bad Kitty, Bad Guys, Captain Underpants, etc. This book was right up her alley and I loved the science/STEM aspect. We will definitely be buying a copy when it publishes in October.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

OMG! My superhero loving son has found a new favorite! Max Meow: Cat Crusader Book 1 kept his attention longer than most (I mean he is just 4.5 yo), but it was perfect for a story before bed. We loved the illustrations, and the graphic novel style of the story. We will be back for #2 for sure!

Fans of Dog Man, Captain Underpants, and Lunch Lady are going to love this new addition to the graphic novel superhero world! Max Meow accidentally gets powers, and he is so excited to save the day, but Agent M, an evil rat, will do anything to sabotage him. I will definitely be getting this one for my school library and for my son!

What a fun read! A definite read alike for those who devoured Dog Man and The Bad Guys. Filled with a lot of humor and heart, I can’t wait to read the next installment in this new series.

This book wasn't exactly my taste, but I had my rising 4th grade daughter read it and she enjoyed it. Max Meow is a great addition to books like Dog-Man and Nate the Great for those early readers who want something funny, that feels like it is longer, but still has illustrations. Perfect for the 1st through 3rd grades.

As a grown-up lady reader, this is what drew me to this title- cats, crusaders, Kittyopolis, and science. This is my kind of book- the kind I can use to bring kids in with and get some science to stick with them in a super fun way. Five stars.

Super cute! Will purchase for my middle school library.
Fans of Dogman and Big Nate will love it. Love how they explain some words. Great message of friendship and working together.

This graphic novel feels like a less-enjoyable mash-up of Captain Underpants and Catstronauts. I can see it being enjoyed by kids for the bright colors and fast pace, but it feels unpolished. There are many similar books that do it better.

My daughter really enjoyed that this is a hero she can look up to. What a wonderful book with great graphics! She was engrossed in it from the first page. Would definitely recommend!

Just looking at the cover I knew my students were going to eat this one up. I enjoyed reading about the Cat Crusader's adventures and his struggles with friendship and popularity. Kids will love this book, and I enjoyed it too!

This is a fun graphic novel about a cat who becomes a superhero.

I picked this up because my son loves Dog Man and I figured he would enjoy this one.

It was a cute book with just the right amount of words for kids to be interested.

I would recommend this for people with kids or teachers.

This is a cute graphic novel with colors that pop and action that zings. It’s engaging and goofy, perhaps perfect fare for Dog Man fans looking for more interactive laughs and amusing nonsensical humor. It’s one of those books that’s going to change lives, but then again maybe it will because it’s the kind of book that could make a reluctant reader a lifelong reader. I would have loved this book if I had read it in 2nd or 3rd grade.

This was super fun and adorable! Max the cat and Mindy the scientist team up to save their city from Agent M. What could possibly go wrong!? I'll definitely be recommending this to all the kiddos at the comic shop.

Thank you to Netgalley and Random House for an advanced copy of this graphic novel.

The cover and blurb of this book caught my attention as I have a reluctant reader who prefers graphic novels and audiobooks. He adores cats and his favorite books are Dogman, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Last Kids on Earth. I am impressed this book features a girl of color in the STEM field and I was impressed by the illustrations and engaging text. My son particularly loved the questions at the end of every chapter and pacing of the action. He loved the humor as well. He is not usually one who reads arcs so he was sad he has to wait so long to have the physical book and longer for the next book in the series.

My seven year old son and I both loved reading this book together. He is a huge fan of Dog Man, so I knew this is a book he couldn't pass up. This was definitely a quicker read for him and I, yet one that he would reread without hesitation. As soon as he finished the book he asked when the next one will be out.

I highly recommended this book for any reluctant readers. I mean who doesn't love comics, cats, superheroes, and shenanigans?!
