A fun romp with readers' favorite heroes, as well as many new friends. When a giant interrupts the playdate for the Princess in Black, Goat Avenger, and Princess in Blankets and starts destroying the countryside, the three brave problem solvers know what they have to do - stop him! Unfortunately, all of their attempts fail. Is there anyone else who can help them? As always, the exuberant illustrations complement the text perfectly. A very satisfying read for fans of the PIB series.

The next installment of The Princess in Black early chapter series comes out on October 6. In this, the eighth tale (or 9th counting the really short covid-19 related one that came out last school year), the Princess in Black, accompanied by The Goat Avenger and The Princess in Blankets have particular trouble with a nasty giant that is just too big to stop and doesn't seem to listen to reason. They need to enlist the help of many new and old heroes to stop this foe from destroying everything in sight. And this giant is not what he seems. Cute and funny as usual, and I love the illustrations by LeUyen Pham. I think these illustrations are my favourite in this series.

I enjoyed reading this story. It began a little slow at first, but once they ran into a monster things really got interesting. They try everything they can think of to get its attention, but nothing seems to work. When they see a small village is in the way of this beast’s path, they will have to think fast to save it. As this tale comes to a close, this adventure has a rather surprising finale. Fans of this series of books will want to check this one out.

My children and I all love this series. This new adventure with the Princess in Black and all her hero friends is just as fun and clever as the rest. The illustrations bring the story to life and the plot is delightful. My second grader loves reading this series aloud and I appreciate so much how the vocabulary and sentences fit her level without being too challenging, but still are able to help her learn new words in a really exciting story. Love these books!

This series is just so much fun! I love how the number of Super Princesses just keeps building and building. This book made me laugh out loud!

We are big fans of the Princess in Black in my house so my daughter and I were pretty excited to read this. These books just keep getting better and better! My daughter was so excited to see just what happened after the Sparkle Signal was used in the culmination of the Princess in Black's biggest adventure yet! All the trademarks of what makes this series great were present including a few surprises. I'm sure we will be getting a physical copy of this at the release date.

According to my 7 year old, this is the best Princess in Black book yet. She giggled out loud a few times.

It's become a common sight in my house: a big sister curled up on couch or bed with a little sister (or often, brother) on her lap, paging through Princess in Black books one after another. There are few books that can live up to this kind of intense re-reading, but Shannon and Dean Hale manage to keep story and humor at the forefront of every page, and that's what makes it work--even eight books into the series.
Since being absolutely delighted by the first book years ago, I've found that there are certain titles that are, well, in slightly better condition than the rest after living in my house for a while. Saying they're less-loved implies some sort of lack, but the reality may be that the other titles are just extremely loved. So far we've only read the digital ARC kindly provided by the publisher through Netgalley, but I can already tell: this one's going to have pages falling out before the hard copy's been in our house a year. And I can't think of much higher praise than that.

This series is one of my favorites to recommend. The story is always good for any gender. I love that the stories are original and engaging.

"With a noisy giant crashing around the kingdom, the Princess in Black uses the Sparkle Signal to call ALL her heroic friends together - for the biggest adventure yet.
The Princess in Black is ready for her snowy playdate with the Goat Avenger and the Princess in Blankets. It’s a perfect day to build snow monsters and battle them for practice. But just when they’re about to wage battle, a huge foot smashes their snow monster. “SQUASHY!”
It’s a giant, and it’s smashing everything in its path! The giant is too strong for the three friends, so the Princess in Blankets has an idea: it’s time to light the Sparkle Signal and summon help. With a rising crescendo of a plot and a delightfully surprising ending, the latest adventure in the New York Times best-selling series features all the Princess in Black’s friends as heroes for the first time."
Another delightful entry in this series by a favorite author team!

I love the Princess in Black series. The pictures are vivid, the stories have the right amount of adventure, and the characters are developed. This book is a perfect addition to the series. It's a delightful story about working together and the villain is adorable.

For every little girl who always wants to be a super hero But is told to be a princess guess what you can be both!!
Shannon Hale gives little girls everywhere the chance to be a princess and a hero at the same time.
My daughter started reading this series in kindergarten after buying (Yes she bought it on her own) it at the school book fair. This series brought my than kindergartner joy as she readers about her favorite rebellious princess in black.
My daughter is now in 4th grade and still buys the The Princess in Black series even though she finishes in a hour or less. The stories are tales being able to do what ever you desire with the help of friends and working together to find solutions.
This is a can't miss series for anyone with a girl who has been told she needs to be a princess when she really wants to be a hero!
The art is beautiful and tells tell the story the author has beautiful written.
Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy of Shannon Hale The Princess in Black and the Giant Problem.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
I have read all of the Princess in Black books so far, and this one lives up to others quite nicely! The Princess in Black returns to battle a giant, along with the Goat Avenger, and the Princess in Blankets. As always the illustrations are perfect and make it easy for beginning readers to follow along and stay interested.
I can't wait to bring this into my classroom for my students and to add to my home library for my own children.

I always enjoy the Princess and Black books, despite being a grown adult, and this is no exception. I especially loved the appearance of a new foe.... GIANTS AND MONSTERS, oh boy the princesses have their work cut out for them now.

The girls in my school love Princess in Black adventures, and this one will be sure to please, too. The illustrations are bright and colorful. The story itself is simple, but the representation of empowered girls being more than just princesses is a great example for young readers that they can be whomever they like. As an adult I like the message of both fun and the power of friendship and working together, and the appreciation that we all have unique gifts to share with the world.

Another super cute Princess in Black book! My daughter and I laughed out loud at the heroes’ names, so funny! Also, the end is fabulous! It is a great children‘s book especially for early readers just starting to read chapter books.

I received an electronic ARC from Candlewick Press through NetGalley.
The 8th book in this series.
This time the Princess and her friends have to take on a giant who appears in the meadow. This time more heroes appear from everywhere in response to the signal. It takes all of them to handle the giant and win the day. They celebrate with a giant snow party and the decision to meet weekly to get to know each other better and to simply party.
Hale continues to capture the joy and adventures in this series for mid-elementary level readers. The illustrations are brightly colored and help readers see how the characters disguise themselves and their pets.

Like all of the previous Princess in Black books, my daughters absolutely loved this. The illustrations are always perfect and the storyline is easy to follow and fun throughout. This one took my younger daughter a bit by surprise at the end and she was delighted to find out what "Squashy" meant. :)

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary advance reader copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.
My granddaughter loves this series, so I was pretty excited to receive a copy of this book. We read it together and both loved it. The Princess in Black is a strong character for children to read about, this series brings together elements of princesses, fairy tales and superhero stories all in one. A great read and I know she definitely cannot wait for the next one!

My Thoughts
I have never read any of The Princess in Black books but my 3-year-old granddaughter (Lucy) is a huge fan of series! When I saw that NetGalley had the upcoming book available I knew I had to read it. Thankfully, my request to review was accepted.
This may be my most unique book review to date because, while I am going to give you my quick thoughts on this particular book, I am going to conclude with a link to a video interview with my granddaughter about why she loves The Princess in Black books in general. Bonus Review
Here is the interview my daughter-in-law did with my granddaughter Lucy about The Princess in Black books in general. Her Daddy might have been hiding off screen giving her an answer at one point – I’ll let you decide! I think he is a big fan of these books, also! HA HA!

See! I told you Lucy was a big fan! I’m so proud of her because she has loved books more than just about anything else since she was a baby! I know she can’t wait until she can get this new book in October! (By the way, she LOVES making faces at herself on the phone!)
Summary
Quite simply, this book is cute and fun and it will encourage kids to read. I haven’t read any other Princess in Black books, but based on Lucy’s recommendation, I think everyone should go out and buy them all today!
Thank you NetGalley and Candlewick Press for a free eARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
