The Princess in Black and her horse, Blacky, are joined by other heroes and their animals in an adventure. When a giant causes a 'squishy' problem, the other heroes join the Princess in Black to find a solution. Another great installment to this princesses' adventures!

My six-year-old squealed aloud when I showed her that a new Princess in Black had arrived on NetGalley. She absolutely loves Princess in Black. What is not to love, right?
Princess in Black and the Giant Problem tells the story of a real-life princess, and hero, taking down a large giant. Initially. she struggles to take down this large man. However, it doesn't take long before she realizes she needs to call in her fellow princess/hero friends to help solve the problem. Together, the girl-gang figures out their giant problem and restores piece to their lands!

The Princess in Black is a beloved series in my house.
Both of my daughters (age 5 & 8) absolutely love the stories and the illustrations.
The Princess in Black and the Giant Problem does not sway from the usual standard from the other books in the series.
It's wintertime in town and the Princess in Black has a hero playdate with a few of the other heroes. While playing, they encounter a huge giant, who does not respond to any requests to "get back". They enlist a few of their other friends and also some new friends and new disguises. They work together to find and carryout the best solution to stop the giant from destroying the town.
It's such a cute story and I love the illustrations. It was a new story with the same familiar elements. I mean that in a very good way.
Loved this book and everything about it.

The Princess in Black is missing her friends and is ready for a play date when she faces a giant problem. When she sends up a signal for help, more superhero friends than she expects answer the call and together they solve the problem with enough time to enjoy playing afterward.
This is another excellent story in the series! Each book has had a great message about friendship, adventure, and imagination with wonderful illustrations. My six-year-old and I love reading this series together.
Thanks to Candlewick Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The Princess in Black and the Giant Problem is scheduled for release on October 6, 2020.

Disappointing. I am still a fan of LeUyen Pham's art (this is where the extra star comes in), but I continue to struggle with Shannon Hale's storytelling. None of her books -- though many are highly recommended by other readers -- have worked for me.
I read the Princess in Black because my daughter does, but it's always been a tepid series that falls flat.

The latest installment of the Princess in Black series by Shannon Hale has a noisy giant destroying the kingdom, so the Princess in Black uses the Sparkle Signal to summon all of her heroic friends to help her save the day.
Through teamwork and ingenuity, the friends are in for their biggest adventure yet, and the surprise ending will delight fans of the Princess in Black series.

The Princess in Black and the Giant Problem by: Shannon Hale, Dean Hale
Yet another cute little story. This book is easy to read and a great learn to read mini chapter book. Pictures on almost every page encourage reading and curiosity.
The Princess has encountered another problem, she misses her friends, but a ‘giant problem,’ is keeping her occupied. Can the Princess save the kingdom and solve her conundrum of wanting to see her friends? Join in on the fun and laughs in this new Princess in Black adventure.
I recommend this book from Pre-k to third grade. But also a nice quick read for adults, if you would like something cute and lighthearted to brighten your day.

This was the first I had heard of the princess in black. This particular story is about a group of friemds who need to stop the giant from destroying the town. It was a cute book, but wouldn't be my first choice to read to a kid.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Unfortunately I did not notice that is in protected pdf format only and I cannot read that format. I will make sure to pay attention next time.

Adorable! My kids love The Princess in Black series and this one didn’t disappoint. It had darling pictures and a cute story line. My daughter (7 years old) was so excited to get her hands on it. She sat down and read it all in one sitting. I would recommend this whole series to everyone. Even my boys enjoy reading it.

My daughter has been a fan of The Princess in Black books since they came out. She was excited to get the chance to read this, and has declared it her favorite!

The next installment in the Princess in Black series.
The Princess misses all of her friends being together, so she goes on a mini-playdate in the snow. Suddenly, calamity strikes when a giant arrives and begins a rampage of terror!...or is it?
A cute story featuring a huge cast of heroes to save the day! I loved seeing the variety of characters brought in to help. This kind of story may have been done before, but it hasn't been done with this level of friendship and style! A good continuation of the beloved Princess in Black books.

This is the perfect chapter book for beginning readers. My 6 year old and I have a fun time reading it aloud together. We both loved that there was a giant in this one and it added a little twist compared to the monsters in the previous novels. This is a perfect super hero book for little ones - not scary and pictures on just about every page. Love this!
Thank you to the publisher for the advanced copy

My 5 year old daughter loves the Princess in Black series and I love reading it with her. We love having a princess alternative to Disney and having strong, capable girls who stand up for themselves and their friends. These are a favorite in our house and my 10 year old son even likes them, mainly based on the artwork and the variety of villains. They are a nice length and have chapters which is helpful for times when you need a stopping place.
This new book in the series holds up to our high expectations. The artwork is lovely and the story continues with bringing in more characters and activities. My daughter especially liked the friends and their pets and the "villain" being misunderstood. We are looking forward to purchasing the hard copy when it comes out this fall. Thank you to the Hales for another fun and engaging book we can enjoy together.

My children have both been huge fans of the Princess in Black books since my daughter received the first one as a gift. Now she is old enough to read them to herself, and my son is obsessed with them, often requesting them for his bedtime stories. As soon as I finished this one, they immediately asked me to read it again, and I expect I will be reading it over and over, on a daily basis, for months to come!

Thank you so much to Candlewick Press, Shannon Hale, and NetGalley for this early ARC. This was a 5 star read for us! I cannot say enough good things about this series! Shannon Hale is a go-to author for us! My daughter, who is 8, struggles to find books that engage her. The Princess in Black series is amazing nd wonderful! This series really allows young readers to learn how to read early chapter books. This series is very imaginative and keeps young readers engaged. The Princess In Black and The Giant Problem is now one of my favorite books in the series! As always, the pictures are beautiful. I also really enjoyed all of the additional superhero characters! #theprincessinblackandthegiant problem #netgalley
We will post this review to our Instagram account closer to the publishing date!

When the first Princess in Black book came out, I hoped that there would be sequels. Now, this series has continued for eight books, and even though some story elements get repetitive, each book does something new and different with the familiar set-up and characters. This eighth book expands on the general story structure with a larger-scale problem and bigger cast, bringing together a variety of disguised superheroes who must take down a gigantic, destructive monster.
The plot twist at the end was very obvious to me as an adult reader, but it will probably surprise the target audience, and the book is creative and different overall. I enjoyed the winter theme, which helps set this apart from previous volumes, and chuckled over the wide range of different superheroes and disguised animal sidekicks. Someone who isn't entertained by the different names and costumes may find this part of the book less appealing, since it spends some of the short page count on introductions instead of more action, but in my experience, the silly disguises and names are part of this series's charm.
Like the rest of the Princess in Black books, this is a great selection for boys and girls of all ages. The series appeals to a broad audience by striking the right balance between its princess and superhero elements, and it also works as both a book for beginning readers and a fun, dramatic read-aloud. These books are fun and appealing for parents and kids, and I highly recommend them.
