An interesting premise, however I wish there was more to the stories. It seems to gloss over, probably to no fault of the author, a great deal. If anything it gets you interested to know more about this cartel. Could be I'm used to fictionalized drug smuggling of the likes of Blow and Scarface. Theres a lot of underdeveloped potential there.

Many thanks to Netgalley for this copy in return for my honest review.

The story of one of the original drug smugglers for the Medellin cartel and of the rise of one of it's founders, Carlos Lehder. Norris was a pilot, flying plane fulls of drugs from Columbia to the United States and the Caribbean.
I found the book to be easily readable, and full of exciting and dangerous capers. It really shines a light on the wild and crazy beginnings of the era. At times, I felt like I was riding along in the plane with the author.
While I cannot condone the lifestyle of the author, and his nonchalant dismissals of the harm he caused society, I did find the book to be enjoyable.

First published in 2001, it looks like I first bought a copy of this in 2008 and read and rated it 4 stars back in June, 2014. I hadn’t realized I’d already read this one, it was just like reading a new book. My memory is not what it used to be. I obviously enjoyed it just as much as I likely did the first time. Ride/fly along with drug smuggler Andrew Barnes during his hey day in the 1980s as he does his thing for the Medellin cartel, flying planes with drugs on board. Plenty of excitement to go around here, lots of true crime stories shared. Advanced electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, author William Norris, and the publisher.
