Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me. The writing style was not what I expected and I did not really enjoy.

This is the second installment in a very gripping psychological thriller series featuring forensic psychologist Cyrus Haven, and his unusual semi ward, Evie Cormac.

As Cyrus continues to delve into the events surrounding the discovery of Evie at the scene of a gruesome murder and the aftermath of her complicated history, Evie is still hiding and supposedly protected as she lives in the children's home. She is not safe anywhere, however, and the hunters will stop at nothing to find and kill her. She knows the secrets and the people they want to shield.

These characters are so complex and interesting, and you can't help but root for the totally damaged Evie. I love the author's writing style and the story was so engaging as some of the details about Evie are slowly revealed. As the pair continues to search for answers, Evie reluctantly divulges more about her past and the villains involved. Ancillary characters are also more fleshed out and the relationships that Cyrus has with them also show the scars he has from his own childhood trauma. These two messed up people, Cyrus and Evie, still have a long way to go but have forged an uneasy alliance that looks something like care and concern. I am looking forward to the third in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for this e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend.

I am way too tardy reading “When She Was Good” by one of my favorite authors, Michael Robotham. Why so late reading a book delivered to me by NetGalley? I believe it is due to his stories being so “dense” with moods that can only be described as somber, or even sad. In this story Robotham return to the saga of psychiatrist Cyrus Haven and his greatly damaged teenager Evie. Evie had been found at age 12 having been raped, tortured, and hiding in a closet. In this follow up to “Good Girl, Bad Girl” we follow Cyrus, Evie, and Sacha (the cop who found Evie at age 12) as they work to figure out what happened to Evie when she was young, who Evie really was, and who the bad guy(s) were then and still active now trying to kill them all.
Many others have written wonderful synopses of this book. I am certainly glad to finally begin reading “When She Was Good” and enjoyed racing to the conclusion as fast as I could!

I loved the first Cyrus Haven / Evie Cormac book, but When She Was Good did not pack the same punch for me. I am hoping book 3 will return to the page turning thrill of book 1!

#Michael is the author of Good Girl, Bad Girl and When You Are Mine. #When She Was Good is a gripping thriller. Who is Evie the girl with no past? And what is she running from.....
Thank you for the advance copy,

Michael Robotham writes amazing characters, interactions, and plots. Cyrus and Evie are well-developed characters, among my favorites. I loved that though in this episode both characters were often introspective, the story was a thriller full of action. I loved the novel’s predecessor, Good Girl, Bad Girl; and together these two formed an amazing and satisfying story.

I was provided with a digital Advance Readers Copy of this title by the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love Michael Robotham's writing, however this book didn't capture my attention as much as his previous books. I just couldn't get into it.

This was a very enjoyable read. And it was a good sequel. I still really like Cyrus and Evie as characters. I don't think Stella was really needed. I lool forward to the next one.

I am a longtime Michael Robotham fan going back YEARS.  When I saw he had a new series based around Cyrus and Evie, a psychologist and a child with a mysterious past, I could not wait to get my hands on it.  I thought that Good Girl, Bad Girl was fantastic and I loved getting to know the characters.  However, When She Was Good was something else...and in my opinion, a much more interesting book.  Though hard to read at times with sensitive subject matter involving children being hurt, I fell in love with these characters and rooted for them until the last page.  Absolutely a 5 star read and I hope Cyrus and Evie's story isn't over yet.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Really enjoyed this second installment of the criminal psychologist Cyrus Haven series. I believe you can read this as a stand-alone book because there is enough backstory throughout to help you understand. But it is always helpful to read a series in order. The story is told from past to present, back and fourth throughout the story. It’s quite hard to listen about the abuse our main character Evie Cormac had to endure. The story is complex with many characters, but never hard to follow. Let’s just say I was sucked in from the beginning of the story and was interested throughout the entire book. It’s a gripping suspense novel, and one I highly recommend (either the book or the audible version) to those who like mystery/suspense books. Michael Robotham has been one of my go to authors, and he never disappoints me.
I was given a ARC kindle version in exchange for my honest review. I liked the beginning so much I purchased the audible version, so when I couldn’t read I could listen. Great narration! I’m only so sorry it took me so long to get to read this one. A special thank you to author Michael Robotham/Scribner Publishing via NetGalley for the advanced readers copy.

Unfortunately, I just could not get into this one. I tried multiple times before giving up. I'm in the minority, so take this review with a grain of salt.

4.5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoy(ed?!) this series - especially the characters of Cyrus and Evie. Both have (heartbreaking) backstories and character arcs that are fully fleshed out over the course of the two books, which I genuinely appreciated (you don’t get that in a lot of books within this psychological thriller/drama genre). This book was a true continuation of book #1 & I’m happy that it was, because it finally provided answers to all of my lingering questions from the first novel. I really liked how everything came together at the end of the book - it was well written & conclusive (in a good way). I wouldn’t be surprised if these are the only two books in this series, based on the ending & I’d actually be okay with that, despite how much I enjoyed the very complex, yet very likeable, characters of Cyrus and Evie.

Thank you to Scribner and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the ebook in exchange for an honest review!

I read this one without reading the first one so I was a little lost at the beginning but finally felt caught up and was able to really enjoy this book. I now have to read the first one so I'm able to connect all the pieces. This story was suspenseful and had the perfect amount of thrill.

Highly recommend reading the first book before starting this book. I requested this from NetGalley not noticing it was part of a series.

I started the book and was a little confused so I had to go buy the first book before reading this one. I'll definitely pay more attention when requesting books.

Overall I really enjoyed the series, the first book was a little better than this in my opinion.

When does the desire to help, and the need to know cause more harm than good? This is the conundrum that faces the brilliant though damaged forensic psychologist in this heart pounding novel, the sequel to Good Girl, Bad Girl. In alternating chapters, Evie and Cyrus propel the plot along while revealing their own past and experiences, as well as exploring the ties that bind them together. This is a worthy read for those who like heart pounding page turners!

Criminal psychologist Cyrus Haven is back in this second book about Evie Cormac. Discovered hiding in a secret room by a police woman, the little girl was dubbed Angel Face by the media. Will the secrets to Evie's past be uncovered after new evidence comes to light?

It was good to learn more about Evie's background, but When She Was Good was just more of the same. I again felt a familiarity between the character of Cyrus and one of Dr. Tony Hill, his double from the television series Wire In The Blood. This similarity made it difficult to read the novel, as I was constantly making comparisons to the aforementioned character. The dual perspective format worked well for this novel, as readers were given insight into both main character's psyches. There really was not much of a plot, as the story was mainly about discovering Evie's past. As a result, the book was good, but not great or thrilling. Readers who are new to Cyrus and Evie should read the previous novel before tackling When She Was Good.

Disclaimer: Scribner and NetGalley provided me with an Advanced Reader's Copy of When She Was Good. The choice to review this book was my own.

I went into reading When She Was Good without having read the first book in the series. I must say, I was a little lost, but was able to catch on. This was a great thriller and I am off to purchase the first book. I would definitely recommend this to any thriller lover. I loved the authors writing style.
