More then Neighbors is the definition of the Harlequin Special Edition stories. We meet Cam, who wants to unravel his family secret, while his neighbor Meredith has just moved in to start a new life in Blackberry Bay. After Devlin's unfortunate death, Meredith and her daughter Sophie need a fresh start. Moving back to the town where Meredith grew up, and close to her parents, she finds that her friendly neighbor has passed away. Instead, there is now a surly (and hot) guy living next door.
Cam is temporarily living in the house of his deceased grandmother. Although he didn't know her, she has left him her house and her strange cat, Elinor. Reading through her journals, Cam is trying to piece together his past and the secrets about his early life.
Meredith doesn't know what to think of her neighbor. Her daughter Sophie, however doesn't seem to mind the grumpy manners and she often skips over to his garden, since there is still now fence between them. Slowly, both Cam and Meredith realize that there is more than meets the eye. And when neighborly friendliness turns into something more, Cam must decide if he can leave his old life behind or not.
Cozy, funny and a heartfelt read. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

Meredith bought a new beach house, sight unseen. She's moving across the country with her young daughter, Sophie, and their dog Oscar to start fresh since losing Meredith's husband to a traffic accident four years earlier. The realtor told her their closest neighbor is an old woman who lives alone. Imagine their surprise when a man who isn't hard on the eyes is the first person they see at the house next door in quaint little Blackberry Bay.

Meredith does not remember knowing hot neighbor Cam's biological father or grandmother when she grew up in Blackberry Bay. Cam is officially known as the heir to the Maguire business interests in New York City. He's just in Blackberry Bay for the summer to wrap up the estate of the grandmother he never knew. She left it to him, after keeping her promise to her son to never contact Cam (at least while she was alive).

As I said, this was a pretty predictable book, but sometimes that's the right, feel-good thing for it to be. I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars and recommend it as a pleasant beach or travel read. I'd also be curious to see the later books in the series. Blackberry Bay is full of fun small-town characters, and I already have a guess who the next book will be about.

This is... fine. Shannon Stacey is a good writer but this felt so much more boring than her other books. It's exactly what it says on the tin, so check MORE THAN NEIGHBORS if the blurb looks good.

Shannon Stacey's "More than Neighbors" was a sweet and heartwarming novel featuring likeable characters, an engaging plot with touches of humor and mystery, and a charming small-town New England setting rich with future story possibilities. Main characters Cam and Meredith seemed to have very little in common at first, but I enjoyed watching them get to know each other and slowly come to realize just how perfect they were for each other. Cam's friendship with Meredith's daughter Sophie was also adorable, and I loved how patient Cam was with Sophie and how he fell in love with her just as much as he did with her mother.

Meredith and Sophie had a tough time after the death of Sophie's father, Devin, but I really appreciated that Meredith was open to dating and possibly finding love again. I also appreciated that no "big secret" came out about her late husband after his death to make him look bad and Cam look better by comparison. I believe it's possible to love more than one person over the course of a lifetime, and a truly loving spouse, as Devin seems to have been, wouldn't want Meredith to be alone forever. Meredith's grieving process and choice to move on with her life was handled well IMO, and I didn't feel that her relationship with Cam moved too fast or was happening before she was truly ready for it.

Overall, I recommend "More than Neighbors" for all fans of contemporary romance and look forward to reading future books set in the charming town of Blackberry Bay.

I so enjoyed More than Neighbors. It’s a light and sweet, “enemies” to lovers story. I wouldn’t really call them enemies-they just pushed each others buttons. I liked the characters, the little town, the plot, and their pets (feisty cat Elinor almost steals the story). I’m a sucker for anyone going through relatives’ old journals and learning about their family and this was a unique storyline. Cam’s mothers revelation near the end of the story was icing on the cake for me. Shannon Stacey gives us a pure feel good romance, wonderful banter, light conflict, and a must have happy ending.

I have read and loved other books by this author - and so I jumped at the chance to pick up this super sweet looking romance.

Unfortunately it fell flat for me. It failed to capture and then hold my attention. It moved too slowly and everything just seemed too...basic. I found myself skimming to get to the part where my heart started fluttering, but it never really happened and so I eventually put it down. My heart is a tricky thing these days, it's harder to please than ever before and this one just didn't do it for me.

Read 25%

I've read several of Shannon Stacey books and loved them in the past, but I think my reading tastes have changed some. I found the writing to be simplistic and unfortuantely More Than Neighbors did not suit my tastes.

Next door neighbors - one widowed with a young daughter and dog moving back to her hometown to build a new life and one trying to find out more about his past.

These Harlequin special edition romances are such hidden gems. I've loved them all and this small town romance is no exception. It's fast paced with very likeable characters - definitely a book you can finish in an afternoon. If you are looking for a closed door feel good romance, this is definitely the one for you. Looking forward to the next one in the series!

Beautiful and soothing to the core, a lovely book perfect for reading on holidays, on the beach, or just for making one feel better in between major reads.

I have loved everything about this book. It was so well written and easy to read, simple yet thoroughly thought out characters, with clear values and goals, yet easy going and almost felt like I could pop in to their barbecue dinners or go for an ice cream with them.

Blackberry Bay seems like the perfect place to start a new life: far from the hustle and bustle, a place where family life can play a major role every day, building on the dramas of the past or actually healing all main characters Meredith, Cam and Sophie. Meredith and Sophie moved to the Bay to start over after a personal tragedy, they needed the nature, new old friends and faces and a more simple and happier life. Indeed they could find what they were looking for, and the sassy, playful character tones make up for the sweet predictable ending.

I will for sure pick up the next books in this series and will follow Shannon Stacey from now on. Many thanks to Lisa from Harlequin Special Edition and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this arc.

If you’re looking for a sweet and clean romance, look no further. The characters are nice people, the little girl is adorable, there are pets (!), and the plot resolves satisfactorily. I might have given this three stars, but it really was written well and a great set-up for a new series; thus, four stars.

From just a couple of pages in, I was hooked into this story. I feel like I needed the brain candy. I continue to be super pleased with all the new Harlequin Special Edition books. The story is a typical boy meets girl plot with the twist of opposite pets. It was light and sweet. It also set up some other characters to star in future books if this is a series. It is another example of a good pandemic quarantine read.

More than neighbors is the first installment in a new Harlequin Special Edition series by author Shannon Stacey. Cam is in Blackberry Bay for the summer learning about a past kept secret from him. Meredith and her daughter are looking for a fresh start in her hometown after grieving the loss of her husband.

On move-in day Meredith realizes her new lakeside cottage comes with a neighbor cat who loves to taunt her dog and the owner of said cat who challenges Merediths plans to slowly ease back into dating. Each character is well developed beyond the will they, won't they dynamic. The tension between the characters was low-key and although there was humor in places it wasn't laugh out loud funny. This book is perfect for fans of Shannon Stacey or others who love small-town summer books.

I absolutely loved everything about More than Neighbors and the town of Blackberry Bay. From the characters to the quaint little town, Shannon Stacey drew you into the lives of Meredith and Sophie from the first page. Meredith is a widow at the ripe old age of 30 and she's decided to move back to her hometown of Blackberry Bay. She grew up there but hadn't been back for years since she moved to California and married her college sweetheart. When he passed away, she wanted a new start for her and her six-year-old daughter Sophie.

Cam Maguire felt like he was living in a timewarp. On one hand, he was still working for his father, albeit remotely, for their corporation in New York. On the other hand, he was living in a cottage in Blackberry Bay that once belonged to his paternal grandmother. A grandmother he didn't know even existed. He's joined only by Elinor, his grandmother's finicky cat, in the small cottage by the bay and his summer of discovery stretches before him to remind him how lonely he truly is. Until Meredith arrives next door.

Cam and Meredith have sparks from the first time they meet and there's no denying it. Whether Sophie and her dog Oscar are swinging in his hammock reading books, or Cam is accompanying them to the library and for ice cream, the two of them can't seem to keep their eyes off each other. Meredith is torn by her desire to find someone new. She loves her husband, but at thirty, she knows she's too young to stay single forever. Cam is torn about how to be what Meredith and Sophie need when he doesn't even live in Blackberry Bay and there's no way he'd ask them to move to New York. He wonders if he'd be able to be the step-dad Sophie needs after losing her own father, a man she will always remember.

I loved the maturity of this romance, meaning I think the author did a nice job with keeping the overreacting to a minimum by making sure the characters communicated their needs and desires (For the most part. Sure there was conflict, but it wasn't over the top ridiculous).

The secondary cast of characters in this book leaves the door wide open for many more novels in the Blackberry Bay series and I can't wait to read Reyna's story. If you're looking for a new series to start that's full of laughter, love, and a wonderful town I'd love to live in, you definitely want to grab More than Neighbors by Shannon Stacey!

An irresistable new contemporary romance from forever fave Shannon Stacey, MORE THAN NEIGHBORS is an exciting start to her first series for Harlequin's Special Edition Line. Widowed Meredith moves back to her small New England hometown of Blackberry Bay with her daughter and dog in tow, not expecting to fall for new neighbor Cam, who's carrying his own baggage. A lovely neighbors to lovers story with a great setup for potential future couples in the series.
