Keto Cleanse by Karissa Long is a great keto book to introduce you to this type of diet. I loved all the recipes and how the author explains the process. Full of good information and very inspiring.

As a keto sister for the last six months, I was excited to pick up this title. There is a plethora of information about the keto diet available online, but even for an information professional, figuring out which is the best and most authoritative is difficult. This title offers clear lists of foods that are suitable, which are moderately tolerated, and which to avoid. For those uninitiated in the level of food prep and cooking that the keto diet requires, the book also includes a comprehensive list of tools and supplies. Plus, the author helps set the dieter up for success by addressing all the associated behaviors and issues that make or break a cleanse or lifestyle change, such as stress, exercise, and sleep. The inclusion of recipes and meal plans is great, but some of the recipes seem unnecessarily bland, i.e. boiled chicken thighs? Otherwise, this is a comprehensive and helpful guide to getting started or resetting the keto diet.

Keto Cleanse is a cookbook with meal plans for a reset/dietary cleanse by Karissa Long. Released 14th April 2020 by Callisto on their Rockridge Press imprint, it's 210 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is an appealing and accessible keto cookbook for readers looking for entry-level recipes. The layout is sensible and easy to follow. An introduction (what ketosis is, the benefits of eating a keto diet, myths and facts about ketosis), is followed by a potential healing results, preparation (including tools and supplies), and a description of the different types of meal plans included by the author. There are complete pantry and shopping lists as well as a schedule type listing (with active links for easily flipping back and forth in the electronic version).

The next section includes the recipes which are grouped by category: breakfast & smoothies, soups & salads, vegetables & side dishes, seafood, poultry, beef pork & lamb, beverages & treats, and staple recipes and ingredients recipes.

The recipes have their ingredients listed bullet style in a sidebar. The headers include a description, including special info such as elimination friendly, super quick, and vegetarian. Measurements are given in US standard only. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and cooking directions. Most of the ingredients are easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store (some items will need a specialist co-op or health-food grocery). Nutritional information is included in a footer at the end of each entry. Tips and variations on each recipe are also included in a text box at the end. Extra info: the dressing recipes in the staples chapter are *really* well put together and tasty. I've been dipping everything into the vinaigrette, it's fantastic.

The book also includes a short author bio but lacks any index or general ingredients index (there are however, complete ingredients lists in the meal plan chapters). There is a metric conversion chart included in the book. The author also includes some interesting web resource links for further reading.

My quibbles with the book: first, the recipes are mostly not photographed. There are some photos, and they're clear and attractive, but they only represent about 5% of the recipes included in the book. Second, I cringe whenever I see the word "cleanse" used in any food/diet context. The author herself covers that issue pretty well and provides a decent layman accessible explanation why tea and juice "cleanses" are generally a bad idea. (So I haven't subtracted anything for the use in the title, but it did make me wince).

Four stars. This would make a good choice for readers looking for a quick-start keto diet or special interlude with diet friendly meal plans.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Thank you! This book broke it down for you as easy as possible. There has been a lot of talk of different ways to cleanse your body. I found the book to be easy to navigate and understand. I have tried keto a few different times and believe this information will help me stay on track.

I liked the no nonsense recipes included in this book. Simple recipes that still taste good make switching to a new dietery change a lot easier than if there were complicated recipes. It is also good for someoen like me who has done Keto before but fell off of the wagon, to get right back on and stay on track. I thought there could have been more reicpes but to do a reset diet sometimes less is more so I understand the reason behind it. Most of the recipes sound good too I will likely give this reset a try.

Loved it....five stars. So let’s start with the hated word cleanse. Basically this book when used in the correct way ....will help your body into a ketosis state, that will burn fat, which holds toxins in the body. Burning the fat gets rid of the toxins so cleanse in other hated words. I love keto books because I believe they naturally coax your body into burning fat and the recipes are amazing.

What did I like? So many recipes....like a ton. The book also details a 14 day plan which my kindle downloaded into a mess of broken pages and such. So the actual meal plan I skipped out on but the recipes look delicious. I started an online food order before the finish of the book they looked so yummy. The author also does a great job of explaining ketosis, and why immunosuppressive people would benefit from this plan.

Would I buy or recommend! Yes...YES. I really enjoyed the author’s enthusiasm for her work, and it’s really her life’s work. I’ve already scheduled starting the cleanse when I’m off work for 14 days since I have a rotating shift job. I’m going to try to follow everything and see how I feel.

Thoughts for the author? Congratulations on your new release! Five stars. Love your enthusiasm and passion for your work. I thought the book was incredible!
