I have been crocheting for over 15 years and this book is great for a beginner or someone more advanced as there is always something to learn. Even if just using this as a reference for crochet hook sizes and stitches it is a wonderful resource. The patterns are current and not out of date which is nice to see. I would recommend this to anyone starting out as a resource to add to the shelf. Thank you for publishing a great colorful crochet book with easy to follow directions.

CROCHET by DK is the new second edition of the original book. Cover to cover CROCHET literally does cover so many basics of the art of crochet. The book is clearly organized for beginners. CROCHET walks you through the steps needed to create some lovely articles from basic and simple to those with a little more expertise involved. Note that any stitches or procedures for items shown in the book are clearly defined with photos and explained step by step. A beginner would easily make any of the included projects with just the information provided within CROCHET.
CROCHET is a challenging book. It shows many facets of working with crochet hooks and the many weights of yarns. CROCHET also introduces some more unusual methods. Those that require special crochet hooks. These parts are meant as an introduction of sorts to these methods. CROCHET does not go into great detail about Tunisian or broomstick lace, etc.
However CROCHET goes into great depth with most crochet stitches and methods. It includes finishing steps and borders. And for every stitch or method illustrated follows up with a simple project to try using what you just learned. The last half of CROCHET is chock full of fun things to make ranging from scarves, sweaters to blankets, pillows and even toys.
There is something for everyone in CROCHET. It is a good resource book for a small number of stitches. But I think it is valuable for its range of projects. If you are looking for sizing and yarn ideas for projects CROCHET has so many items covered that you could certainly find a pattern to fit your needs. And then use your own creativity to make it your own. Yarn quantities are clearly noted as is the necessary gauge for fit.
All and all CROCHET is a really nice book to include on your craft library shelves and would be an excellent gift for someone who is looking to learn how to CROCHET. Clearly written with step by step photos when needed CROCHET is easy to follow.

Crochet Over 130 Techniques and Stitches by DK
Starts with a table of contents where instructional chapters are listed and then items to make are broken down into categories.
Intro talks about how the book is made for all different levels and what is included inside the book.
I am always looking for a different idea to use to make charity afghans for the agencies I volunteer for.
Like how you can use their pattern but a different thickness of yarn and they tell you how to achieve the finished item.
Love how different yarns are explained with pictures and icons displaying what is on a typical label.
Yarns, hooks, accessories, techniques where they show you with pictures and contrast colors of yarn,
basic stitches are shown. Examples of what is being discussed then moves into the projects themselves.
Each patterns starts with a title, summary of the item and stitches used. Hook size, notions and tension/gauge is also given along with yarn and amounts.
Finished size is given and pattern is easy to follow and understand. Level of difficulty is also shown at top right hand corner and tab on page turning side is given a color for expertise level.
Pictures of how to work the stitches is also shown on next pages.
I like the beginner ideas because they make good gifts.
Other techniques are also discussed along with further projects moving up a level.
Projects for baby, child, women and men. Like scarf and hat section the best.
Love sample stitch patterns because they NOT only show you the finished piece, charted piece and written rows of how to make it.
Glossary is included at the end along with crochet terminology. An index, acknowledgements, about the consultant are also included.
X reference book for your library!
A KEEPER!
Received this review copy from DK via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Crochet: Over 130 Techniques and Stitches is a great crochet pattern book full of creative projects. With a variety of patterns, techniques and ideas this one is good for both novice and seasoned crocheters. There is plenty within these pages to give you inspiration.

This book is full of tips and tricks and helpful sections discussing yarns and yarn colors, different hook types and other crochet equipment. There is a techniques section showing you how to work up different stitches. Also included is a section about blocking and seaming techniques and another part which shows you how to work up different textural stitches like rib stitch and shell stitch. There is also a section with information on how to embroider onto crochet. I could go on and on there is plenty within these pages to spark the imagination and to learn from or to brush up on your skills with.

I liked that other ideas and inspiration for using crochet as an embellishment are included. For example, the Textured Cushion pattern, where you work up a front panel then sew it onto a pillow to give it a special accent.
Aside from these tips, tricks and ideas there are several patterns included for home decor, stuffed toys, blankets, mittens and sweaters for babies, children and adults.

I chose to make the book cover using a quick and easy pattern. The pattern calls for a chunky yarn, but I didn’t have any on hand so I used two strands of regular yarn held together. The pattern was very easy to follow and I like the result.

I recommend Crochet: Over 130 Techniques and Stitches if you are looking for some crochet inspiration.

An excellent reference book for any level of "hooker". We creative artists are always looking for the next challenging pattern or stitch and this book contains several that will keep me busy for the next few weeks. This would be a great gift for your favorite crafter, young or old!

A necessary addition to any crocheter's yarn stash. I consider myself an advanced crocheter and find myself referring to this book more often than I search online for help. Thank you to DK and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a copy of the book.

This book is a fantastic resource for any public or home library! It is filled with gorgeous photographs and clear instructions for basic to advanced crochet techniques. The projects allow you to practice the techniques. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to crochet or has been crocheting for years - it's that comprehensive!

An excellent place to start with crochet. It explains all the common and semi-common crochet lengths, even some I haven't had occasion to use before, as well as basics like the magic circle, increasing and decreasing, and a lot more. It introduces different techniques (for example, creating fringe) and then follows that up with a basic pattern that uses it (for example, a fringed scarf). If you want to get started with simple scarves, blankets, pillows, plushies, this is a perfect beginner's book, especially in conjunction with separate video tutorials to get the movement of the stitching techniques down.

DK continues to be one of my go to publishers for books. Their books always include excellent pictures and detailed instructions for go to. As a crocheter, I enjoy looking at books to see how they will help people who are new to the craft and I think DK knocks it out of the park with this one.

This is a great introduction book for older kids and teens. The patterns aren't necessarily modern, but they are classic enough that there will be something for everyone in here. Great photos and explanations of everything you need to know!

This book does a very thorough job of walking the reader through all the basic crochet stitches that will be needed for each pattern right off the bat. The patterns are clear and concise with excellent pictures. I absolutely can not wait to finish my current crochet project and start on a toddler sweater featured in this book.

This is an excellent crochet book. The instructions are crisp and clear. I like the fonts send the design elements of the book. The type of projects were not for me save for one or two.. The focus seemed to be on children’s clothes and toys which I do not make. As an instructional guide, I think this is a terrific book.

This book was of average quality to me compared to several other crochet books I have read. The first thing to note is that this is a UK book with UK terminology that doesn't translate to US crochet terminology. The book mentions the US terms and measurements at the beginning but all stitches and patterns are in UK terminology.

The good: I loved that the techniques section gave a new technique and then a couple mini projects to practice that technique. It is the first time I have come across that style of book teaching and I really liked it. The pictures here are clear and easy to understand.

The bad )Unfortunately this out weights the good): Important skills like gauge swatching got one paragraph mention but no actual explanation of how to actually do it! The designs were loud in color and felt dates and not attractive, this is my personal opinion and may be because my personal style and preferences are different. This book will age quickly and not become a timeless edition. One of the issues with the patterns I saw was in the materials section did not have a good way for readers to figure out how to substitute yarn if they don't have that exact kind available. DK, worsted, aran were words discussed but not assigned meaning in the yarn weight chart provided at the beginning of the book.

Over all this is a very, very BASIC beginner book for people who would like to learn crochet in UK terminology. The techniques section is very well done. I did not like the pattern section and personally wouldn't create any of the projects shared.

I was not able to read this book. It was in a format that was incompatible with the reading programs I use.

I'm an intermediate level crocheter and I found this book to be wonderful. I love the patterns, many are modern, simple, and versatile, which is exactly what I was looking for. The step-by-step instructions for stitches seem to be helpful but I can't speak to whether they're accessible to beginner crocheters. Overall, I'm very impressed with the level of detail and attention that was put into this book!
