I'm so excited for this book 😍. It's one of my most anticipated releases of 2021. Give me anything with Greek mythology and I'm in 😍😅. I just loved the sample and can't wait to read the whole book 😍

Only receiving six chapters is a full blow tease! I am absolutely in awe of this book already and I can't wait for more!

The beginning is kinda confusing and very complex but as we go on I expect more will be explained and we'll get a better understanding of the terminology and world. Please don't let this sway you from reading it, keep at it and I'm sure you'll love it!

Thank you, NetGalley and Disney Publishing Worldwide for the first couple of chapters to review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The cover of Lore immediately caught my eye. For someone who studied Ancient Roman and Greek history in university, the beautiful gorgon on the cover immediately stole my heart and demanded to be read. And boy, am I glad I did. NetGalley provided the first six chapters of Lore, and these few chapters made me wish it was 2021 already so I could have a completed copy.

"For seven days, every seven years, the gods walk on earth as mortals. If you can kill one, you become a new god and take their power and immortality, but you'll be hunted in the next Agon as well." We meet Lore Perseous, sole survivor of her house, in hiding from the Agon. She has no interest in it after her entire family got slaughtered, and only wishes to be free. However, when a nearly-dead Athena ends up on her doorstep and demands her help, it seems she can no longer run or hide from this cruel game between gods.

I love Greek and Roman mythology, and especially enjoy a good retelling or twist on it. So far, I think Lore is setting up a great story woven with sprinkles of mythology. Not too much, so that it still is it's own story, but definitely enough to still be recognizable as mythology. I'm also excited about the promise of strong female main characters, lgbtq+ representation and just general good writing. I'll definitely be reading the finished copy, and will update my review when the time comes. For now, I'll give it 5 stars.

This review is currently based off of just a few chapters I got access on NetGalley but will be updated once I get my hands on this book, and I will.

For all of those who have read any Bracken book, you know what to expect. Now pair that with Greek mythology. For those that haven't had the chance to peek into worlds Bracken has created so far, this is, in my opinion, a good starter for you.

Very excited for this book!

Incredible! I’ve always been a huge fan of books related to or based on greek mythology so I knew I had to give this one a shot. Even though this sampler only has a few chapters, I can already tell that I’m going to love this book!

“‘It’s the way of things, is it not?’ The new god said. He leaned down, watching as the last flare of life left the old god’s eyes. ‘The way of your father, and his father before him. The old gods must die to allow the new to rise.’”

Please note that I received an advance reader's copy of this book's first six chapters in exchange for an honest review. I have since requested the full book (I was trying to clear out all my arcs but this was just too good).

So far, 5 stars.

Wow. Just ... wow. I'm in awe. I haven't been this invested and impressed by a YA novel in a long time. I'll admit, I walked in a little skeptical, having been disappointed by a few books I'd been highly anticipating but this book blew me away. I only read six chapters but I cannot wait to read the rest. From the very start, we're drawn into the story and introduced to the main character and I just ... loved everything about the storytelling.

“‘For seven days, every seven years, the gods walk on earth as mortals. If you can kill one, you become a new god and take their power and immortality, but you’ll be hunted in the next Agon as well.’”

That's the plot in a nutshell. Every seven years, there's a deadly hunt called the Agon where (greek) gods are hunted for their power, their immortality, and the glory and honor that comes to the house of the "new god." Some of the original gods still remain (such as Artemis), while others have already been slain, either for their powers to be passed onto their killer or gone forever. Lore, our main character is the last remaining of the House of Perseus, and she's tried to stay far away from the Agon and all of its bloodshed after her family (mother, father, and sisters) were brutally murdered. Only now, years later, she's drawn back into it all when one of the old gods shows up at her door, offering her what she's been wanting all this time - a way out, to truly be free and ... something else, something she's been pretending she hasn't wanted all this time.

I can't wait until I get to read the whole thing.

This chapter sampler is AMAZING and is really successful in captivating a reader's attention. I'm so looking forward to the whole book! Alexandra Bracken is a good writer and storyteller, this part of mythology is surely in good hands.

I received the sample chapters for this book and all I can say is WOW!! Major Greek mythology meets Hunger Games vibes and I can’t wait for the release of this one!

It was a little daunting to try and grasp all that was happening in the first few chapters as we are sort of dropped into the middle of Lore’s life. From what I gathered Lore, the last descendant of Perseus, has decided not to participate in the fight for power currently taking place in modern day New York City. Hunters are tracking down gods and the descendants of gods in an effort to steal their powers and immortality. Lore’s entire family was murdered by one of these hunters and now she has removed herself from that life and fights men and women in underground fight clubs for money and to avoid her hurt and grief.
Come to find out she’s actually being hunted and that’s kind of where the story takes off (I assume!)

I LOVE Greek mythology retellings so I’m anxious waiting the release of this one so I can finish the story!! The sample sent to me was fantastic, well written, and had me longing to know what happened next!

I've just read a Chapter Sampler of this on NetGalley (thank you, Disney-Hyperion!)

I never predict that anything I read is going to come out at 5 stars, but this just managed to slide itself onto my 2021 most anticipated list. In fact, I didn't read the whole sampler because I already know I'm going to love it and I want to savor it.

I already know and love Alexandra Bracken's writing style, so I'm not surprised that I enjoyed it. Lore is already such a strong character and I love her. I'm super intrigued by the world. I'm a big fan of Greek Mythology and I just know this is going to hit the spot for me. Is it January yet?!

This chapter sampler was the perfect tease for what’s to come! I’ve been a fan of Bracken’s writing since ThenDarkest Minds, and I have a feeling now that her new novel Lore will not disappoint! It was a great step into a new world, with dark, twisty, imagery. I can’t wait to read the rest!

if I had to describe this book it would be if Percy Jcksonmeets the Hunger Games, I have read Alexandra bracken other series and I love it and she didn't disappoint with this book, I had a lot of fun with this book, it is about how the descendants of greek heroes hunt the ancient Greek gods who have turned mortal to steal their power, there were many feminist themes which I loved plus the romance will be so great when it is developed, I loved what I read about this book so far and I can't wait for it to b released or hopefully get an ARC version I would recommend this a thousand times

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for a chapter preview of this book.

Clearly, I don't have a lot to comment on regarding this book, but I can tell you I am already hooked. I love the integration of Greek mythology into this modern-day story. I also loved the completely unique premise of hunting down ancient Greek gods. I would not hesitate to buy this book (in-fact I already pre-ordered this). I only it's only a chapter, but I can already tell this book will be phenomenal.

Wow! What a phenomenal hook this novel has! I devoured this sample and am so excited to read the rest of the novel. The setup for Lore is so well done. The reader is gripped from the first page. We meet our protagonist, Lore, fighting in a ring while feeling grief over a loved one’s death.
I feel like Braken was able to grip me and have me empathize with Lore immediately.

The pacing in Lore is perfect. There is a balance between the action and exposition is so splendid. I am in love!

I really really enjoyed the first several chapters of Lore by Alexandra Bracken. I was a huge fan of The Darkest Minds and all the twists her writing puts on modern life in such interesting ways. The book follows Lore, the last mortal of a nearly extinct greek lineage as she tries to survive the Agon, an ancient week long hunt for the prize of being an immortal god. The plot was a little confusing to follow at first but it started to all fall in place faster than I expected which was really nice seeing as books like this usually has a lot of world building that can sometimes get hazy to grasp. I can't fully form an opinion yet because I only received the first few chapters but I can't wait to see what comes next for Lore and her totally relatable friend Miles.

Lore has a completely fascinating set up but is also unapologetically brutal. THe opening scene was so visceral that it had me cringing big time. It did a great job of setting the scene and plunging us immediately into the world, stakes, and tone very quickly and efficiently. But, sadly, at the same time, it told me this was not the book for me. I'm sure readers will eat this vivid and interesting tale up but I'm a bit of a weenie about intense described violence and the opening had a bit too much for me, so I'm going to respectfully decline.

This opening is so exciting and rich, I was hooked into the action immediately. The stakes are so high and the world feels so vast and I can't wait to read the rest of the book!
