Okay, so I knew I would probably run into this problem if I ever tried a chapter sampler. Now I need the whole book! I love Alex Bracken's writing, and she is an auto-buy author for me. Lore promises to be no different. I loved the introduction to Lore's character, as well as the world she is trying to escape but gets sucked back into anyway. I am not as familiar with Greek mythology as some readers might be, yet I had no trouble following what was happening. This sampler definitely sets us up for an epic standalone full of action, adventure, and high stakes for well developed characters. I can't wait to read more!

I absolutely loved this sample. I found the plot gripping and impossible to put down. The modern take on Greek mythology was amazing and completely different from anything else I’ve read before. It was a much darker twist on the mythology I knew already. I really liked the writers style, world building and characters.
Every seven years the Agon happens, and nine Greek gods are forced to walk on Earth as mortals while being hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines intent on killing the gods for their powers and immortality. The protagonist, Lore, is one of the descendants of the ancient bloodlines, but she has hid for years, avoiding this secret world of the Agon and the deadly hunt for gods. But, as the next hunt begins in New York, Lore is pulled back into the world she has spent years running from.
I am intrigued to see how the story progresses and can’t wait for the book to be released so that I can finish it.

The concept for this story is very interesting, and the world building seems solid. Alexandra Bracken's writing has been hit or miss for me in the past. I really enjoy the ideas and characters she comes up with, but sometimes end up bored by the writing. So, I enjoyed the chance to sample a bit of this book. I'm still not sure if I'll pick it up when it comes out or not. It was definitely interesting.

This is definately be the book to watch out for the beginning of next year!! The authors writing flowed almost musically! The world building was beautiful and timeless, and the details aren't overwhelming the story... I can not wait to read it in its entirety!!

I know Alexandra Bracken from her earlier novels - I've read the entirety of "The Darkest Minds" trilogy and really enjoyed it and the "Passenger" duology, which wasn't my favourite. So, safe to say, Bracken's books have been hit or miss for me, and I proceeded to read the sample of "Lore" with caution and low expectations.
In the novel, we meet our young protagonist, Lore, who is in the process of coping with grief by participating in illegal ring fights. Unexpectedly, she meets an old friend who reminds her of the past she so desperately would like to forget. Soon after, she meets no other than Athena herself, wounded on her doorstep. The goddess sends her on a quest that could change the power relations between the houses and gods that still remained on Earth.
For a sample, the seventy-something pages of Lore gave me a clear understanding of what the novel is about: Greek gods still fighting for influence on Earth. And since I love everything Greek mythology related, I was hooked from the first pages. The writing style, as in other Braken books, is quite accessible and enjoyable (although I struggled a bit with the opening chapter). The story seems to be well organized and thought-through. Lore's point of view is quite enjoyable to read, and hopefully, it stays that way for the whole novel. And finally, the plot itself. I think I heard of some book that brings Greek gods into the modern setting (aside from Rick Riordan's impressive bibliography), but "Lore" - full of vengeance and gory rivalry between the descendants of gods and gods themselves - is something else entirely.
I'm actually really intrigued and curious about how the story evolves. I would definitely check out the rest of the novel when it comes out early next year.

This sneak peek of Lore definitely has me hooked! I am very intrigued and I can’t wait to find out more. The first chapter starts with a bang and totally grabbed my attention! I am looking forward to reading this!

She just continues to amaze me! I enjoy her work so much! This was really good! I liked it so much! I really liked her writing, and I just wanted to keep reading! I was sad when the excerpt ended! I wanted more!

Loved this Sampler!
Such an intriguing story so far. Can’t wait to read more. Such a unique story. Very excited.

God, I need this book yesterday! The sneak peek only made it harder to wait for it! Loved it and can't wait for the whole thing 😍

I'm really interested in this one. It was a lot to take in at first but I think I will really like the rest of the book. It's definitely on my radar for next year and I can't wait to read it.

This sample made me preorder the book right away. It has all the elements I love and the writing is excellent. Not overly descriptive with unnecessary words just because.
Highly anticipated.

The author mixed greek mythology and urban fantasy in an awesome way. I have not read that many books about greek mythology so it was really intriguing and interesting from the first chapter. This book has a hunger game vibe, but it's hunters killing gods to take their powers instead of being teenagers killing each other. The setting reminded me of the Mortal Instrument's beginning when we realize that there is a whole aspect of the world that is hidden and known only by a handful of people (it also happens in New York).
I admit that the beginning was a little confusing. I had a little trouble differentiating all the families and understanding how exactly the Agon works (who can take the power of the god, who is hunting which god, etc.), but it became clearer in the 4th and 5th chapters.
Lore seems to be a great character. She can take care of herself, is a fierce fighter, but still has a good heart and all she wants is to live a quiet life.
I am eager to read the entire book in January!

I'm so hyped for this book already and these first 6 chapters were great. I love the mix of Greek mythology and urban fantasy, and the characters already seem well developed this far in. I wasn't sure about the premise of greek gods in a modern urban setting, but it works really well. This is definitely one of my most anticipated reads for next year.

Those first few chapters of Lore were fantastic! I didn't know what to expect from the synopsis, somehow I couldn't imagine greek gods in modern New York would work but Alex did a brilliant job! I was hooked from the first page, cared already so deeply about Lore and loved how Castor and Miles and Athena showed up and turned her life upside down. The impending doom of the Aegon felt so exciting and I am so ready to see more of Lores skills and hope to see her kick some ass.

A really interesting start to an already intriguing premise. This book is definitely on my watch list for 2021 and I can't wait to read more of it.

First of all thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an extended exerpt in exchange for an honest review.
I really wish I could finish this book right now, I truly can't wait until January. The storytelling and narration really are adictive. Everything that happens I wanna know more.
I only got to read 6 chapters so far, yet I can already tell the characters are gonna have a great development. From the beggining you can notice how they have complex backstories that are clearly gonna be explored in the rest of the book.
It is a pretty fast-paced story, and this isn't what I usually like, but to be honest I didn't have any real problem with it. Everything shown to the reader as the story goes has a point, there wasn't extra info that we neither like or need. Still on the other hand there is no lack of information either.
Also has this YA street-fantasy vibe that reminds me so much of the books I used to read over and over again when I was younger, like THG, Percy Jackson, you know those classics.
And for my friends who aren't native english speakers I recomend this book if you have a good basic knowledge, it might not be the book to first start reading in english. But I'm sure this is eventually gonna be in spanish because it just seems amaizing.

4 stars to Lore!
I really love that this a standalone first off, we don’t get a lot of those and it’s a breath of fresh air.
Okay, so Lore is about a game/competition that occurs every seven years involving greek gods and goddesses. Lore our main character has removed herself and escaped the game after her whole family has been murdered and she is hiding out from them all when her supposedly dead best friend shows up, as the new god Apollo.
When a hunter or player in the game kills a god he gains their power and becomes the new god to be hunted, but you can’t kill your kin and you can only hunt during the game.
The only reason I’m giving this book 4 instead of five is because of the Game, it took me forever to understand it all.
The only original gods left are Athena and Artemis by the time this new one starts and it’s a battle to the death, when Lore is given the chance to avenge her family she joins in and is off to try and kill the new Ares.
Lore was a great character, I understood her and her motivation throughout the book, her pacing and development was great. Her need for revenger and how fighting made her great and terrible at the same time made sense. We watch her struggle with everything that’s happened to her. Her human friend Miles was a good balance for her as well as Castor.
Castor is the new Apollo and while we slowly learn about him it’s easy to see how much he loves Lore from the get go.
Although this takes place in NY it really seems like Alexandra put a lot of thought and study into the Greek Gods and Goddess, I wish we got to see more of them other than the two who were still in the hunt. They were really well written where even though they weren’t main characters they encompassed their personalities well and everything they did made sense.
I want to say I want more, maybe an epilogue but the story is really solid and strong on its own. It’s a good standalone.

[DISCLAIMER: This review only applies to the chapter sampler I was provided with, and does not cover the whole book.]
I loved the idea of this book, and paired with the execution? It's amazing so far. The writing is decadent and delicious, and like always, Bracken's storytelling is masterful. LORE is definitely a book I'd want to continue, as far as I can tell from this sneak peek.

HER NAME WILL BE LEGEND
Thank you NetGalley and Disney Books for the advance copy chapter sampler.
LORE-Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality. Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths. Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods. The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore's decision to bind her fate to Athena's and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost--and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees.
I did not read the entire book as I was only presented with a 6 chapter sampler. It was action packed and quick hitting. The buzz and excitement as well as the plot description would make me interested in reading the completed book.

This chapter sampler definitely sparked my interest in reading this book upon release day. I enjoy Alexandra Brackens work in the past and I eagerly await for more!
