This. Book. It’s everything I’ve wanted and nothing I knew I needed. I only read the first few chapters as an excerpt but I. Am. Hooked. Greek gods? Check. Mysterious murder game? Check. New York City vibes? Check. Bada** main character ? Check. I can not wait for this book to be published and will be eagerly awaiting all installments of this series.

Lore by Alexandra Bracken is really interesting. I got the sample of Lore and I wish to read the entire book. This is the first time am reading Greek mythology. The interesting fact is that the immortals are becoming mortals for 7 days, every 7 years. When they are in earth as mortals they are hunted by hunters of bloodline and who kills the old god to become the new god and enjoy the life of immortals and take the power of the one they killed. Lore is one of the bloodlines who was hiding to live a normal life as she lost her family.
After years she had met her best friend Castor who she thought as dead and one of the old gods came to seek help from her it was Athena. Athena was severely wounded and was helped by Lore. I just want to know what happened to Lore, Athena and her friend Miles and whether she had found her friend who is a healer to heal Athena How doe this Agon ended?.

I'm so sad to say that as many books of Bracken's I have on my Kindle and forever TBR, I haven't read anything of her's until now. I'm a sucker for Greek Mythology and maybe it was because I'm watching Great Greek Myth's on Amazon Prime (which I just watched the episode about Gorgons which I had no idea were a group of sisters! The story of Medusa was much shorter than I had thought and was really sad. The irony that Athena is the one asking for help.
The story for me had a bit of a slow start. We meet Lore who goes by Lauren and she's a street fighter. That's how she makes her money, and how she I guess deals with her demons. She's successfully avoided all this crap the mortals and God's are in until an old friend finds her. I had a hard time grasping what was going on since we only got bits and pieces of her past. We're introduced to her friend Miles who is seriously friend goals to the max. It wasn't until Athena shows up that starts finally started to make sense. And things start to get interesting.
In this short book sampler we're introduced to the basics of the story and the main characters. I'm definitely going to pick this up on release day! I need to know more!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hyperion!
Review link on my blog going live Sept 22nd!

Lore is hiding- from her family, her heritage and mostly from herself.
Having lost everything and everyone from a young age she has grown accustom to a detached way of life, never getting too close, never letting people in for fear that the knowledge of who she is could harm them. Lore has felt a growing restlessness This all spirals out of control when unexpected visitors from her past brings everything she has hidden into the light.
From the little I’ve read we can expect some big name Greek Gods and Goddesses and a hell of a family feud situation. There is an underlying theme of family-honor-duty which which sets a sense of foreboding and sacrifice. Lore has burned with the need for vengeance and she may finally have the tools at her disposal to accomplish this and restore her family’s name and reputation.
There were some interesting characters hanging around the periphery of the story who I am interested to see developed. This sample while good, did not necessarily give me the wow factor. I don’t know if its because there were so many loose ends or because I simply hate being thrown into the middle of a story. That being said, I will probably still add it to my “2021 Must Reads” so I can learn the fate of Lore.
I am still adding I received a copy of this arc from Disney Publishers and NetGalley, all thoughts & opinions are my own.
Review available on my blog from 17-09-2020 here: https://jessicareadsit.wordpress.com/2020/09/17/chapter-review-lore/

I received a chapter sampler from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
As a fan of Greek Mythology I think the premise is very interesting. Modern NYC, Gods that walk the Earth as mortals for 7 days and descendants of Greek hero that hunt them? Count me in!
The thing is that it throws your right in so I was confused during the first 3 chapters. Chapter 4 got me hooked. I definitely want to read the whole thing now.
PS: I fell in love with Miles immediately. I really adore this character from the start.

Thank you Disney Publishing Worldwide and NetGalley for providing this preview in exchange for my honest review.
Lore by Alexandra Bracken, I read the six-chapter teaser and I’m hooked. I can’t wait for this one to be published.
Greek Gods become human for 7 days every 7 years – WHAT!?!? Greek mythology with a bit of Hunger Games mixed in…There’s a lot going on at the start and I will say I had to read carefully to keep track of who and what was going on. That said, Lore, the MC and her BFF, Miles, who is gay and of South Korean descent gave me lots to love and hope for the rest of this one.
Be warned it’s not a pretty story. Lots of blood and violence just in the first 6 chapters, and since it’s about revenge, power, and immortality, you can assume it’s not going to get better anytime soon.
I will for sure be waiting for this release date.

Always impressed by Alexandra Bracken. Once I feel into the world, I was IN, and I'm so excited to pick this up when the time comes.

Really liked this excerpt. Excited to read the rest of the book. I wished this was longer but will have to wait for the book

I was really intrigued by the description and eager to download the sample chapter - but I had a hard time getting into this one and the writing just wasn't for me. It felt a little overdrawn - I know it's only an intro to the book though, and that I'm in the minority here... Just not a great fit for me - but definitely check it out for yourself before deciding!

Lore checks all the boxes -- a coming of age narrative, loyalty, betrayal, action and heart. Bracken pulls the age of the Greek gods into the modern era, while carefully sidestepping the Demi-god epic retelling. Instead, Bracken creates a new narrative distinct from other like-genre novels. Readers will find themselves enveloped by the sights and sounds of New York City and will thoroughly connect with Lore and her friends. Lore dives headlong into a battle that readers will not want to miss!
Set in modern New York City, Melora, aka Lore, is the last of her family's line. Since her family's murder seven years prior, she renounced who she was born and trained to be -- a hunter of gods. When her past literally meets her on her doorstep, she must make a choice -- turn her back on her family's legacy or fight for freedom from the Fates.

Thank you to Disney-Hyperion for sending me this Chapter Sampler via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
4.5/5 stars.
I am so ready to get my hands on this book! I’m a sucker for stories with Greek mythology, and this is such a fresh take. The writing style was easy to follow along with, and I can already tell that this is going to be a fast-paced high-energy book. This short sample of the book has left me completely captivated.
Lore is already a character that I’m rooting for. She’s such a badass and I can tell that she won’t take shit from anyone. I’m really eager to find out what happens next, especially regarding Castor. I thought the way that his “reunion” with Lore went was written so well. The emotions came across clearly and I was instantly intrigued by this figure and the relationship that Lore and Castor had in the past.
I’m definitely going to be picking this one up to read in full when it comes out, and I’d highly recommend it if you like strong female leads and stories that draw from mythology.

Really excited to see the rest of this book! The first few chapters really peaked my interest and I love the fresh takes on Greek mythology that are coming out. The world and characters seem interesting and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest!
Also this cover is gorgeous :)

I absolutely loved this preview! I cannot wait to read the full book. Alexandra Bracken is such a great author, and her descriptions are so vivid. I can already tell that I’m going to love the rest of this novel!

Lore is filled with intrigue. This is just a chapter sampler that I got approved for, but it was great and I can't wait to read the whole book. It hooked me right from the prologue. It's a very original concept with what I assume will be a great story line.

I didn't know I needed this book so much!
First, the cover is GORGEOUS! Medusa is always a favorite of mine so it caught me attention so easily.
Then the synopsis held my attention even longer. I have always been fascinated with the Greek Gods and this is something I knew I'd like even if it isn't what I expect.
As I started reading I knew this would be a book to pull me out of my slump. Starting off in a fight and having a mysterious boy pop out of nowhere where she has a history with him? Yes, please!
I can't say much, because it was a snippet but, I will definitely buy this book when it's available! The writing style alone has me in its grip! Easy purchase decision for me!

I understood that I`ve read an unfinished material, and just chapters of it, at that. That will be the main reason why I will not go into a deep dive of those chapters. What I can say is that it did not excite me. Maybe in a year it will suffer improvements (after all, the author is renowned, and I bet there are plenty people out there ready to give feedback).
Everything seems to fall back into other books that I`ve already read. ("Percy Jackson and the Olympians" by Rick Riordan, "Divergent" by Veronica Roth, "The Arcana Chronicles" by Core Kresley).
I do think that the book has potential, but I also took that there is too much plot crammed even in those six chapters that were available for me to read. It dosen`t give me time to reminiscent over certain passages that it quickly moves on to something else. Everything seems to promise to be bigger and more dramatic and at some point it begins to sound plain and false.

I received this as an eARC to read for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion for giving me access.
The cover of Lore drew me in INSTANTLY. I mean, look at it, it it GORGEOUS!
The beginning was a little slow for me, but as the sampler ended, I did want to continue reading. I not completely sole on it yet and I still have lots of questions that I hope will get answered in the rest of the story.

Greek Mythology meets Hunger Games? I'm so ready for this book and I'm dying to read more. The concept of—essentially—Murder Olympics is so up the alley of the old epics of Classical Greece. As a Ancient Studies grad and mythology fan, this is exactly the kind of adventure of peril and myth that YA was missing. From the sampler already, I'm feeling it as a natural Young Adult step from the Middle Grade Riordanverse and I absolutely adore it.

The Greek gods come down to earth and are mortal for a week every seven years. Whomever kills a god, gets their powers for the next seven years. Just from reading the little blurb, I knew that this was going to be a book that I wanted to read. Luckily, I was accepted for the arc, so a full review will be forthcoming.

Alexandra Bracken presents a dazzling tale of modern-day Greek gods that commands your attention from the start. I’ve only sampled a few chapters, but the mythology nerd in me is already hooked.
