I love mythology retellings and this is a great start! Alexandra Bracken does a fantastic job at immersing you in the world and events without drowning you in unnecessary details. The sampler left me wanting more and I can't wait to read the full book!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the sampler in exchange for my honest review.

As usual, Bracken does an excellent job immediately introducing readers to the world the book is set in without adding too much exposition. The beginning action is good and offers a good look into who Lore is while still leaving plenty of room/mystery to explore. We're introduced to four characters, really, though the ones that get the most introduction are Lore (obviously) and her best friend Miles, whom I already adore. The other characters intro'd in these first 6 chapters are Athena and Castor, who was Lore's childhood best friend she thought was dead (and I already have suspicions as to why). While I question some of Lore's decision making, I'm willing to put aside any possibly stupidity for two reasons 1) it's a book and people in books by nature act differently than real people, 2) I might also make similarly stupid decisions if it meant avenging my family's murderer(s).

The only part of the sampler I didn't like was the prologue, which was told from a different POV and was kind of confusing. The prologue sets up some of the main villains, I believe, and has a very different feel from the rest of the sampler. It's a relatively short chapter, though, so it didn't impact my overall experience while reading.

This is really intriguing and reminds me of Brian K. Vaughan & Fiona Staple’s Saga graphic novel series. I really dig the vibe that I got from these first pages. I think it has the possibility to be one of my favorites of the year. I’m always excited to read more mythological stories.

I think this sampler chapter had been exciting, it got me very satisfied, and it's such a good story

I have love all of his books and this one is no different. I can't wait to read the rest of it. I have always been a fan of his and look forward to reading his books. If you like fantasy and feeling like you are in another world than this book and all of his other books are for you.

I loved Alexandra Bracken's debut (Brightly Woven) way back in the day, and absolutely LOVED The Darkest Minds series. I was excited to hear she was writing a Greek myths type book, and I was so happy when I was able to read this sample. I enjoyed the world building and the characters so far. I did find the beginning a little confusing but it was quickly explained. I think this one will be great for readers who are done with Rick Riordan's series but still want that mythological feel. Can't wait to read the rest!

Alexandra Bracken never fails to disappoint.

A promising start to the story.
It left me intrigued and wanting more.

The Main Characters voice is both compelling and exceptionally easy to get into, and though I haven’t read the full book as of yet, I’m excited for a new take on old myths.

There were a few formatting issues, though I expect these will be fixed before publication.

I will happily be reading this once published!

This was a really great start and it makes me all the more excited for the rest of this book!

The prologue was intriguing, but the first chapter is really where the story draws you in. Bracken immediately gives the reader and interesting character in an interesting setting. From minute one, Lore is likable and fierce. The opening image of her in a fighting ring was vivid and fascinating.

Through the next few chapters, the story just gets more and more intriguing. I love Miles and Athena. Really looking forward to more of them. And then there’s Castor. He was only there for a second, but I’m already very interested in him.

This didn’t drag in the least, as first chapters often do. So, overall, very good first impression. Looking forward to the rest.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this chapter sampler. I was very, very intrigued by the premise of this book as I absolutely love Greek mythology.

Upon starting the book, I was really excited. However, I quickly became confused with the intricacy of the story and the phrasing. It basically stayed that way the entire time. The 6 chapters that this sampler was comprised of was basically a constant slow stream info dump. The "new gods" "old gods" terminology and complexity of the nature of this story had me thinking I would probably be confused for the majority of the book if I were to read the rest

I am hopeful that I am wrong, as the writing itself is good and the premise is very interesting. We shall have to see!

I'm a sucker for Greek Mythology. Write anything Greek Mythology and count me in for a good time. With that being said when I first picked up this book I was a little nervous as it is written from a different point of view. At first I was a little hesitant but I soon rather enjoyed this. Looking forward to reading the rest.

The sampler is so intriguing! Greek mythology is so interesting and throw in Medusa? I'm so excited to see where this goes!

This was such a good start of the book!!! I think YA will love to begin and finish the book. The readers who liked Dark Minds, by the same author, will also enjoy this book.

I am already 100% behind this book. I have always found Greek mythology so fascinating. Take that and spin it with a battle where rivals can take over a god's powers upon killing them, a strong female protagonist (Lore) that can kick ass. And a snarky Athena (that could probably kill you with her eyes). Sign me up for the rest of this. ASAP.

Since this is just a sampler I can't give a full review, but from what I've read all I can say is that I can't wait to read the full book! Seems perfect for greek mythology lovers (like myself).
I hope a full ARC will be available in the future!

I absolutely love Greek mythology, which is what intrigued me in the first place about this book. Then adding a contemporary timeline, absolutely awesome. I'm getting real Percy Jackson vibes and I can't wait to see where Lore's story will go.

This book sucks you in from the very beginning. It appears as though it will end up being a pseudo crossover of Percy Jackson and The Hunger Games, while also being a totally original story. I only read a chapter sampler but there was good character development for the first several chapters. Excited to see how this story ends when the full book releases.

First off, I love the premise of this book. Second off, I know I'm going to love the rest of this book because I love everything Alex Bracken writes. Lore is an interesting character and the events surrounding her are even crazier. I love everything about this book so far and I can't wait to read the full version. I hope I can receive the full ARC, but if not, January can't come fast enough!
