This is only a review of the sampler (I am currently in the process of finishing my physical copy, so a full review will be on my Goodreads soon).

I found this really intriguing. The writing style is fast-paced and easy to read. There is perhaps more gore than I was expecting for a YA book, but that didn't bother me as I prefer to read adult stories anyway (just as a content warning for others who may be bothered by it). The over-arching concept of this modern, urban-fantasy mythology story is so clever and detailed. I really think it's a unique world, that can be confusing at first, but that is always the case with any good, complex fantasy world that requires a lot of building. I have purchased this and continued to read beyond the sampler available on NetGalley and I am really enjoying it!

I was able to read the full version of the book, so without spoilers, here is that review:

This was an action-packed adventure!
I love YA Fantasy and Lore really delivers.
It was a bit slow to start because I'm not well-versed on Greek mythology. I had a hard time keeping track of all of the gods, goddesses, and the different houses in the story. However, once I was able to keep everything straight I flew through this story.
I love the characters and the new mythology the story takes on. It was a really great first fantasy read of the year!

Thank you so much to Disney-Hyperion & NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!

This was a great preview....it left me wanting more! I love the cover and the overall concept. Students love mythology, so it will definitely have mass appeal. Can’t wait to read more!

This was a fantastic opening to what I believe will be a riveting fantasy novel! I adore Alexandra Bracken's writing from her previous work and this was no different; she was able to set a dark and mysterious tone perfect for the concept of Greek gods being hunted by ancient lines. For that matter, I just think this concept as a whole is so intriguing and I can't wait to read the whole book!

I don't usually request the excerpts since it can be frustrating to not get to read the whole book right away. But I was a fan of Alexandra Bracken's series, "The Darkest Minds," so I thought I'd give this a go. Bracken is great at setting up action right away and introducing a protagonist. The opening scene in an underground fight club was perfect to grab my attention. However, the backstory for this book feels complicated to me - it's something about a girl that is attached to the ancient world of Greek gods. Unfortunately, after about 20 percent into the book, I couldn't really give much better of a summary than that. I'm going to continue to read the book as a library read, and hopefully, with more background and the introduction of other characters, I'll be more up on what's happening in the story. Still a great start though!

Lore should really be called Gore. The descriptions of blood and gore are quite graphic and hard for a sensitive stomach to take.

I got a chance to read a sampler of the first several chapters of this book and boy, did it capture my interest and attention. I really like the mixing of old myths in a more modern setting and the unique spins to the stories of the mythical gods. Can’t wait to get my hands on the full story.

The ARC sample I received for this upcoming novel has made me very excited for the release of this book. I am a fan of Greek mythology and mythology in general but have found an utter lack of true mythology oriented books in the many catalogs I have looked through. But I'm glad to say from the 80 or so pages I was sent, I have hope for all the mythology fans out there who have already burned through Percy Jackson.

I didn't realize I was getting the chapter sampler, but it got me hooked. And fortunately, I was able to get the book for review as well! What a great premise and a gorgeous cover.

I ended up getting the full galley, so I didn't need to read this preview. BUT I will review it in context of the full text. I really loved this book. It immediately set up shop in my mind and wouldn't leave my thoughts until I read further and further into the story. The first real scene was especially intriguing, when Lore was fighting in the ring. I liked the way the fight scene was written, and especially when she fought Castor. This story is a definite must read, and the preview would have any read seething for more.

QUICK TAKE: I really enjoyed a lot about this fun twist on Greek mythology where every 7 years, Greek Gods become mortal for one night and are hunted by an elite group of assassins who- if they kill the god- take their place. It definitely straddles the line of YA and adult fiction and I enjoyed the world-building, character relationships, and Bracken's way of explaining away how gods have managed to live so long on earth without detection. If you're looking for a big action adventure story in the vein of THE HUNGER GAMES, I think you'll find a lot to love about LORE.

Since this was only a chapter sampler, I'm not writing a review. But now that it's officially released, I will be checking Lore out from my library and updating my review accordingly on other platforms. Thank you for offering a sample to a highly anticipated book!

I really enjoyed this sampler! I love Alexandra Bracken's writing style, as well as anything inspired by Greek mythology, so I was very excited to hear about Lore. The beginning and characters captivated me and I can't wait to read the rest of the story.

Wow, what a ride! I actually feel mixed reviews on this one. The first half seemed to drag for me, and I struggled to get invested. The second half blew me away, and I couldn't out it down! I enjoyed the Greek Mythology aspects, but because it was a totally different take on it, I missed the essence of the original Greek gods. I also found this book to be really gory and violent which made for some great fight scenes, but also made me cringe at times. With all of that being said, I would still give it a go! It was a great ride with some unexpected moments!

I received this chapter sampler from NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

At first I didn’t like the book. It was way too violent for my taste. I continued to read the chapter sampler (the first six chapters) and I began to enjoy the book. You learn more about the main characters and the world. The writing style gripped me and I wanted to continue reading.

This story begins when the new Agon just started. The Agon was created to punish the nine Greek gods because they rebelled. Every seven years they become mortal and the hunters do everything in their power to kill them and gain the power of the god and become immortal until the next Agon. Lore is the last of de line of Perseides and wants nothing to do with the hunt. But when a mortally injured Athena shows up at her house she has no other choice then join the hunt to get her revenge.

The book is well written and if you don’t mind blood, violence and murder then it could be a good book for you. The story sucks you in and you don’t want to stop reading. Every chapter you learn more about the world and the characters, but also makes you want to know more.

I don’t know for sure if I’m going to read this book, because it might be a bit too violent for me. But that is the only reason that I’m doubtful about reading the book. The story sounds really interesting and I love Greek mythology books. That is why this book deserves 4.5 stars.
