Review for sample of the book, this book has such a different idea and great characters. I cant wait to read the whole story and see where the rest of it goes. I have been raving about what I have read and purchased the book to read the rest.

After reading the first few chapters, I am ready for the whole thing!!! It is super intriguing. The main character fights in a basement in NY. There is something that is coming that isn't very happy.

This book looks incredible! I can't wait to purchase the full book to read. I've always been obsessed with mythology and I love the twist on the classic that this story is going to have. I can't wait to get my hands on this book!

I actually didn't realize that NetGalley had only provided me with a sample of this one, so I am actually glad that I fell a bit behind and didn't have to wait much for this one to be published so that I could read the whole thing! I really loved it! I have long been a huge fan of Greek mythology re-tellings and this one falls into that perfect spot of feeling both familiar and totally fresh. Set entirely in New York City, there's also a lot of love for the city itself filling these pages.

Titular character, Lore, is an easy-to-root for heroine - she's strong, feisty and works through her flaws as well. I really liked all of the characters - and while teen romances are predictable, this adds to the fun of reading this. The story itself is action-packed and this one quickly becomes impossible to put down! It's quite the page-turner! I genuinely enjoyed this! It works as a completely standalone read with a satisfying conclusion - but I admit that I wish that this was slated to be the start of a series, because I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters at all! I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Bracken in the future!

Great sampler! Not my usual genre, but I am looking forward to reading the whole book to see what happens.

Thanks to NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion for providing me with a sample of "Lore" in return for my honest review.

I just had two samplers in a row and I've never regretted anything more! At least I'll be able to get my hands on this book relatively quick so the suspense doesn't kill me! Can't wait to read the complete book!

thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing a sampler for and honest review!

This excerpt was exactly what I hoped for. I wasn’t a huge Darkest Minds fan so I didn’t know for sure if I’d like this but when I read the premise I knew I had to try. I’m definitely on board for the full book!

Exciting sampler! I love how the plot looks like and I can't wait to read the rest of the book when it comes out!

When greek mythology meets the hunger games in modern day New York were in for a treat. Long ago, nine greek gods rebelled, their punishment was long. Every seven years they're stripped of their powers of immortality and forced to fight for survival among the humans so desperate for power. Lore is the outcast, the sole survivor of the Perseides blood line just doing the best she can until an unusual knock at the door throws her into the war. When Athena and Lore pair up with a similar goal in mind- end the Agore forever this unlikely pair takes us on a joy ride that did not disappoint.

The two main things that attracted me to this book is both the synopsis and the anticipation for this book. After reading this 6 chapter excerpt, I can tell that it will live up to hype. I really like the writing style of this author and this is my first book by her and has made me more likely to go read her other books. I really like the premise of this book as I find it quite unique as its nothing like I have read before. The only downfall was the fact that I was confused at certain points as I had no clue what was going but from what I hear that gets sorted out as you read more. All in all this looks like a great book.

Lore was an interesting book, but I found myself lost at some point and not really sure what was even going on anymore. It ended up being a good read and I did like the characters a lot, but I felt like I missed something to explain what the world was and why

I received the extended preview for this book and I have to say it was amazing! I have loved everything about this book so far, from the characters to the world building. I am happy to have had the chance to read the excerpt and can't wait for my finished copy to be delivered! I actually bought two special edition copies of this :)

To be honest, I wasn't super impressed with The Darkest Minds. But the premise for this sounded interesting and I wanted to give this author another go. Unfortunately, this story and author is just not for me. So it's really a case of, "it's me and not you".

The pacing (like her other book) is too slow for me. I think others who have enjoyed her previous work will really enjoy this one. But it just wasn't for me. Sorry.

I received a six chapter-sampler of Lore from NetGalley and Disney-Hyperion Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

The opening chapters of Lore by Alexandra Bracken sucked me into the action and the characters. When I first picked up the opening chapters of Lore, I was not sure what to expect. I had high hopes, but as Greek mythology isn't a topic I usually read about, I was concerned it wouldn't be for me.

I was wrong.

Readers meet Lore, a young woman with both physical and mental strength, determination, and not a small amount of snark, as she boxes in an underground fight club. She is a fantastic female character who must overcome grief and past trauma in order to claim her destiny. Her friendship and rapport with Miles was lively and fresh (and I'll never say no to the LGBTQ+ rep he brings!).

Lore, having decided to walk away from the Agon after the murder of her entire family, is pulled back into the hunt when she returns home to find an injured Athena bleeding on her doorstep. Now, she must decide whether she wants to bind her fate to Athena's in order to bring justice (vengeance) down on those responsible for her family's deaths.

My only complaint is that I have to wait until the delivery of my January Fairyloot box in order to read what Fate will deal the heroine and the goddess Athena!

Based off the first six chapters, I'm rating this book four stars. Full review and official rating pending my copy's arrival and my subsequent dive into the rest of the book.

I only downloaded a preview of this book and not the entire book. I am unsure why a review is required, but the sneak peek was interesting and I will be purchasing this book for my niece soon.

Lore will appeal to a wide variety of readers, but especially to those who have an interest/knowledge in Greek mythology. While author Alexandra Bracken gives you the framework, having a foundation going into the book makes for a richer experience.

The book’s namesake is a compelling character that may not exactly be likeable but still want to root for. She has a long, complicated past that she does not want to reexamine. This framework means it takes a while to understand her motivation.

Lore is not a particularly fast read. There’s something about Bracken’s prose that forces you to slow down, even when surrounded by action. She wants you to take it all in, even when that sometimes is impossible. I finished the book with the knowledge I didn’t absorb everything. I was at times confused as to all the players, and yet, I want to read it again.

Due to the violent nature of the hunt, I recommend Lore for more mature young adults, at least 14 years and older.

I received a copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I requested this book thinking that it was the full book and not realizing that it was only the first few chapters. However, I was hooked from the first paragraph and I will be going out to buy this book. I am a fan of mythology already and adding that the immortal become mortal and they're hunted?! Amazing.

Based on what I read, 4/5 stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Disney-Hyperion for an ARC of this work.

Lore by Alexandra Bracken is the story of Melora (or Lore), who we find out very early on in this tale is keeping her ancestors a secret from pretty much everyone she knows, including her best friend Miles. Lore is a member of the Perseous family, yes that Perseous, and we know right away that she is likely the last of her family alive due to a Hunger Games type battle called the Agon that occurs every seven years amongst the families of the Greek Gods. Early in Lore's journey this is all upended when her childhood friend Castor and Greek Goddess Athena show up looking for help. With a colorful group of characters including Miles and a messenger named Van, Lore sets out to end the Agon forever, while also searching for the answers surrounding her immediate families tragic demise seven years ago.

Lore is the perfect YA, fantasy novel. This could have easily been stretched out into a series, but because it wasn't the pace of the novel moves at one of the fastest paces I think I have ever seen, but still manages to flesh out quite a few characters, fosters a gay love story, and delves into Greek mythology. At just under 500 pages this story reads incredibly quick and was hard to put down.

I highly recommend Lore.

Having read both the chapter sampler and the actual novel now, this book was very enjoyable and a wild ride. My entire review can be found on the actual page for Lore.
